Interesting. Conditioning is a big part of my style. The neck hits are really targeted at the traps in the back. Like you said, I have noticed my speed is higher since I've lost the weight. The belly fat was great padding for belly hits, and I've been concentrating on ab building, and it has helped. The biggest change I…

I've been eating real eggs forever. We have our own chickens, so they're always fresh. Last week we had a health fai, and the nurse told me I had the lowest cholesterol number she had seen all day. Years ago I had high cholesterol, but it has gone done since I started eating better and lost the weight. For me, at least,…

Hi All, I'm Joe, age 53. I'm a 2nd degree in Uechi-ryu karate, which is a Okinawan style that came from China. I'll be testing for my third degree next Spring, and I've been preparing for this test for the last 8 months. I lost 30 pounds, started running again, and I am doing P90X to bulk up a little. I do some weapons,…

If I have a head cold, I'll go for a modest run, if I feel up to it. Anything in the chest, I don't work out until it's cleared out.

The funny thing is that most arguments and disagreements are about things that would make a minuscule (or less) difference. The human body is remarkably adaptive and resilient. It's not a crisis if we eat a slice of Wonder Bread (do they still make that?) one day. We adapt, and survive.

I didn't get to formally work out during the storm, but I did get plenty of exercise cutting up trees and hauling wood from my driveway. It's long, and in the middle of the woods, so there was plenty of wood to clear. Luckily, we got our power back after 42 hours.

Admit it, you're just trying to fatten everyone up in the office so you'll look even better! :-) I can see through your clever plan.

I will burn 10-12 calories per minute doing bag work (punches and kicks). That's after I subtract the TDEE. I'm 5' 9", and weight 154.

Take one square of Godiva dark chocolate (I like the 72%), put one tablespoon of peanut butter on top, and enjoy! It's like a high class Reeses cup.

For the extremely lazy, you can use google to search for this: " 5 lbs to kg" and it will give you the number. Don't be afraid of the maths!

Usually about 12 miles. I alternate with spin classes and P90X.

You burn more calories running than walking: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-242-304-311-8402-0,00.html

I've found that if I run with a cold, my head will clear up during the run and stay cleared fr a few hours afterward. You just need to push yourself to start running while feeling lousy.

Kick the incline up to 5 degrees or more, and walk as fast as you can without breaking into a run (unless you want to run). Also, like others have said, your food intake influences weight loss far more than exercise.

Small increments. Increase your non-stop distance by 1/10 mile per week (or more if it works for you).

The calorie burn displayed on many machines can be wildly inaccurate. A Heart Rate Monitor with a chest strap will usually give you a more accurate number for constant aerobic activity.

When I tested for my Black Belt some years ago, we had to meet some basic physical requirements before the actual self-defense portion of the test. One of the things we had to do was run 3 miles. It was in December, and on test day it was 15 degrees out. I carried a bandanna to put on my mouth when the need arose. After 2…

One 12oz mug of black coffee per day. Espresso only when I go to a nice restaurant.

What are you using to determine how many calories you are burning? If you're using MFP's numbers, you might be eating too much. They tend to give very high burn numbers, in my experience.

The VFF stands for Vibram Five Fingers.

I have a mild form of exercise-induced asthma. I occasionally use an inhaler when the need arises. By slowly increasing my run time and speed, over the course of 6 months I noticed the asthma slowly stopped showing up and I can now run without a breathing problem. I don't know how much of a factor losing 30 pounds was, but…

Why would you put a trainer's opinion over your doctor's?

Here's an unusual one. The style of karate I practice has, as part of its testing procedure, the person being tested getting punched and kicked in the stomach, shoulders, arms, and legs. It takes years to learn how maintain your position and balance, as well as being able to take a hard hit. Since I've lost 30 pounds, my…

I'm running a 5.6K (3.5 mile) "fun run" in about 30 minutes from now to benefit the local VA hospital.

If you can't run because the dog is hyper, get the dog trained (either yourself or a professional) so it will run with you.
