Just use MFP and start exercising on your own. Walk, bike, run and body weight exercises all can be done for free to help you build a base of fitness for later. I would recommend setting MFP to slightly active (because of the kids) and 2 lb/week weight loss until you are probably in the 220 range then going to 1 lb/week…

Both is good.

Congrats on your success thus far. However, this is a marathon not a sprint. Patience and consistency are the keys to this long term. Your loss is going to slow dramatically. You just have to buckle down and keep going.

Your not even tracking for protein. Get protein on there and try to hit that as your target. With a little exercise you'd have been okay on this. I go for a walk at work instead of snacking. The other thing you could try intermittent fasting. Basically I think you would probably skip the 5 PM meal when you wake up and eat…

The walking definitely will help, but you really need to be extremely accurate on your food logging (almost OCD for the first couple of weeks). Invest in a food scale and try to hit your macros especially for protein.

My goals for the next 3 months: 1. Cut to less than 10% BF (currently 13-14) 2. Run a sub 20 minute 5k 3. Stick to my lifting plan Remainder of year: 1. 6 pack abs (never had them) 2. Run trail 1/2 marathon in less than 8 minute pace 3. Bike at least 1000 miles Awesome thread.

Its probably the most important tool besides MFP to lose weight.

9 or 10 pounds is a huge loss. The scale will fluccuate from day to day. This is a marathon not a sprint.

Are you a massage therapist or a holistic practioner? You sure as hell aren't a nutritionist.
-
I come across as not funny and a real #sshole. I'll give you a suggestion to STFU.
-
The day I dropped my traditional running shoes and started going barefoot.
-
I'm fasting from lunch on Fridays.

Change your settings to 1 lb/week loss. 2 lbs is too high for you. That should give you something like 1700 calories a day plus your exercise calories.

I did a review here: http://www.homefitnessextreme.com/reviews/shakeology/ Its not the cheapest way to go, but it is packed with vital micronutrients that are deficit in many people's diet. As soon as I stopped taking it I've hit a plateau. Don't know if they are related, but it has happened.
-
Most people should completely ignore BMR and focus entirely on TDEE and set a deficit off TDEE either -20% or -500 calories while bottoming out at 1200. Our bodies metabolic activity is extremely complex and many people get distracted by the definition of BMR as the minimum energy our bodies will burn with a supposed…

I see people here being helpful not being rude. Not sure what you want from people, but here's my advice: enter your info on MFP, set it to 1 lb / week loss, log your food extremely accurately, keep you calories and macros in check and go from there.

I kept looking on craigslist and got a sweet set of weights and racks. I have done home workouts from nerdfitness, scoobysworkshop, and now I'm doing my own combo of P90X lifting routines. With simple stuff you can do alot.
-
2 weeks is not a plateau. You just need patience. I'm at two weeks myself with no loss. Don't adjust your settings just be patient.
-
I agree. The 11 yo daughter of close friends of ours suffered a really bad stroke recently and it puts so much in perspective. HTFU people and stop whining.
-
I'll third that and we'll see who is the first person to mention a coma.
-
Screw that show. If they cared about helping they would show what their diet plans are and how much lbm they are losing.
-
This gets asked every week. Search the boards and you will find plenty of info. It doesn't really matter though.
-
Some people think I'm crazy, but I don't care. Most of them have tried and failed at losing weight and I'm almost 50 lbs down.
-
Nice post Sean. This is classic.
-
Ed your posts are always so insightful and inspirational. Good luck with the knee replacements.

I like to mix it with yogurt for a creamy feel.

Sounds to me like you just aren't ready to go all in on weight loss. You need your "mental space" more than you need to lose. What is there to stess? Just eat withing what MFP gives you. If you are sedentary then get up and exercise. When I started I had come off 1.5 years of back issues and I committed and got started.…
-
I have nothing to offer other than reading what the people who have had surgery are saying it seems much easier to do what I did...just eat better and start exercising. Sounds like you are going to have to do that anyway with a bunch of potential horrible side effects.

You can buy weights at walmart pretty cheap and also scour craigslist. Checkout scoobysworkshop.com for home workout routines and also there is P90X. I'm current doing along with Cardio which you can do anywhere: P90X: Monday Chest and Back Tues: Shoulders and Arms Wed: Abs and Stretch Thur: Legs and Back Fri: Chest,…

You are asking us to explain why some friend of a friend lost 75 lbs in 6 months eat low carb? My guess they had really low calories and did a lot of exercise. How do you expect us to answer. There is no way of us knowing. What is scientifically known is that caloric deficit is the key to losing weight.
