  • The fluctuating went may be water from sodium, but if you were also dropping fat you would see your trendling going down. For example (not that these numbers are necessarily accurate, but for the visual) 144 lbs actual body mass + 5 lbs water retention = 149 Lose mass 140 lbs body mass + 5 lbs water retention = 145 Lose…
  • I've had good luck with thrift stores, but you have to be dedicated to digging, grabbing things in a range of sizes, and okay with putting back 1/2 of what you try on to find the perfect items. I used to be in plus sizes so there must be other people donating things in that size range as well. As I've dropped weight, I…
  • As we measure out servings for dinner, leftovers are immediately portioned into gladware for easy grab pre-portioned (and logged) lunch.
  • I love my amitriptyline! I'm on it for migraine prevention and it has the bonus side effect of helping my insomnia without another drug thrown into the mix. I haven't had any issues with it interferig with my weight loss.
  • A coworker who noticed your weight loss asks you for advice and you start by asking If she knows her BMR and TDEE
  • Sodium! I don't log most of it because there is seriously no way. I am currently eating thinly sliced colby jack cheese and salting every. single. piece. I salt ham, bacon, Fritos, chips, and just about everything else that isn't a sweet. I have no plans to change my ways. Salt is delicious.
  • If you we a girl I would say with creative highlighting and contouring with makeup.
  • I have indulgence days (and nights), but I log it. I don't punish myself my over restricting later or going crazy with the cardio, but it helps to see what I had and where it put me calorie wise. Maybe I ate that 3rd piece of pizza and then realized I was overly full, so it wasn't worth the calories. It helps me to be able…
  • I love this nacho chicken stew: http://www.skinnykitchen.com/recipes/crock-pot-skinny-nacho-cheese-chicken-stew/
  • My antidepressant alone wasn't enough for me and we had good results by adding in a mood stabilizer (Wellbutrin and Lexapro combo). This was after we had ruled out type 2 bipolar. I also second the suggestion of meeting with a therapist. You may want to keep a diary of sorts with what you eat, when you exercise, and when…
  • You can add me! http://www.fitbit.com/user/29MQ2L
  • We cover our grill plates with aluminum foil and then the only cleanup is the drip pan.
  • I have amenorrhea. Warning, TMI to follow. I did not have my first period until 16, and then it it was accompanied by crippling pain, huge clots, and heavy flow (super plus tampon and pad didn't last 2 hours). I didn't know enough to know that this wasn't normal, so my mom didn't know how bad it was. I passed out at school…
  • If I was legit sick, I wouldn't make it up, just pick up where I left off. If I work out on week days and take the weekend off, I might workout on the weekend depending on how I felt. If it's your stomach, then it's likely you weren't eating much, so it shouldn't negatively impact your loss. If you have the stomach bug…
  • My 'before' clothes were so big that it wouldn't have been worth altering them (20 to an 8/10). They were donated. Since I wasn't willing to shell out too much for transition wardrobe pieces they were donated tithe Salvation Army as I went in too look for new things. My SA can have some nice things if you have the patience…
  • I'm 5'4" and currently 142.5 and a size 8/10. My weight goal is 135, but I'm thinking that once I hit goal I'll still want to work on body composition. My non-scale goal is going to be a solid size 6.
  • Yep, and up 2.2 lbs. Considering I had a bottle of wine and salted my ham, some of it is water retention, some is food weight, and some might be a gain. I'll be back on track in January, so I'm not too concerned.
  • I don't like many sandwiches (I like meat, bread, and cheese, just not all together). What about putting the sandwich fixings over some lettuce or baby spinach?
  • 1. Replacing my wardrobe 3 times 2. Trying to use safety pins to avoid replacing wardrobe pieces 3. Finding clothes I love and having to say 'goodbye' as they become too big (I really need to learn how to do alterations) 4. Having to replace shoes because apparently you can loose fat from your feet, too 5. A former…
  • I've been on this journey for over a year. At the beginning every 3 months or so I would eat at TDEE for a week. This past summer, I ate at TDEE for 2 months and focused on body recomp. I still have weight to lose (8 more pounds on the scale) but more than that it's reducing the fat while maintaining my muscle. I really…
  • I was a swimmer in high school; I *ate* but was bordering on scary skinny (125 lbs, but I looked about 105 at 5'4"). My mom didn't allow any junk food in the house and was always making comments about portion sizes. When I went to college, I went nuts with junk food and stopped swimming. I maintained at about 175 for 3-5…
  • When I hit my current size (10 US) I started to feel like I was a normal size in my clothes. If I look in the mirror with my clothes off though, I think I almost look fatter than I did at size 20. I think part of it has to do with where the fat is left and how much jigglier it is. I'm hoping that I'll start to feel slender…
  • I was always cold at 225; I'm dreading this winter at 145ish. Things that help are layers: silk long johns under clothes, t shirts under dress shirts and sweaters, gloves under mittens, etc. Wearing my long hair down in the winter helps keep my neck warm, too. I keep my house insanely cool because my boiler is so old and…
  • We were struggling about finding weights heavy enough for my husband and how much money we were able to spend. I found an extra heavy resistance band (at Target) that is more than enough resistance for him for now ( he can choke up on it ifhe needs to). It was about $15. This might be an option for you, or at least get you…
  • About food: I love this blog for affordable recipies http://www.budgetbytes.com/ . I do skip the pasta based dishes and tend to substitute a can of black beans (cheaper) for anything that calls for a lb of ground beef. If I go for the low fat and lower calorie versions (when available) of her ingredients I stay well within…
  • Ummmm . . . no. Low weights and more reps develop *endurance*. Heavy weights at lower reps will build and tighten your muscle. Unless you're taking testosterone pills, women don't have the hormones to bulk like men do. How do I know this? It's what worked for me. I've eaten at maitenance this summer, lost virtually no…
  • Eat more tomorrow. It's not like your calories run on a strict 24 hour expiration schedule. If I have a lot of calories left over from one or two days and i feel it's going to negatively impact my goals I plan a really large overage (for the amount of a deficit) the next day.
  • I didn't respond to your original post. I understand your concerns. I am 5'4" and started at 224. In one year I lost about 70 pounds and am down to 152. So far, I do not have sagging skin. I drink a LOT of water and moisturize my skin every day. I'm also taking a break from the calorie cut this summer to allow my skin to…
  • Thanks, everyone! I was concerned that I was starting to lose more muscle mass than necessary. What you say makes sense and I'll carry on with the plan. Thanks again!
  • I had mine sized down when it wouldn't stay on my finger. Luckily, we'd bought the lifetime warranty plan so all resizings I'll need in the future are free. We had to replace my husband's though as it flew off his finger and into the baler at his work. He doesn't wear the new one to work.
