One of the things that I've done in the past was try to work at exercising with something that I hated. That doesn't work. If I'm doing something that I'm not fond of doing, I'm not going to keep it up. By doing something that I actually enjoy and that's let's me concentrate on basic things like breathing and moving in a…

Sometimes family can be your biggest detractor and your biggest critics. Look to members of your family that aren't cutting you down and take what they have to say as having meaning in your life - - not those who obviously don't have your wellbeing at heart. Besides, in a couple of months when you're strictly having to…

When a guy tells you that he likes / loves your features but doesn't find you attractive, it's a real blow. It also tells you something else. If he was the man for you, fat or thin or in between, he'd be attracted to you for all of you. If you want to lose weight, do NOT be doing it for this guy. He's not worth it. Do it…

There are psychological tricks that help sometimes. Sometimes there's very little that works. I know that I've tried drinking water every time I get a craving; sometimes that helps. One rather interesting trick that was used by a friend was to sprinkle their craving with something that tasted TERRIBLE but wasn't poisonous…

My goal for July. To get off this plateau and back losing again but doing it intelligently. I'm glad this message thread is here! We women who are over 50 and who have chosen to get ourselves where we want to be with hard work and determination deserve to have a message thread. And to meet good people from all over the…

OH Yeah... I forgot... DRINK WATER! It helps with cravings and getting rid of toxins.

Lots and lots of green stuff. Raw veggies, steamed veggies, lean meats, cheese made with skim milk, and forget the breads. Eat wraps (use low fat mayo and / or use salsa) You can eat good sized portions if you cut back on the size of carb portions and raise the veggie ones.

It helps to get a decent sleep. I think you'll find though, as you begin to lose weight, you'll sleep better. Maybe not longer but better. Instead of waking up feeling like you've had a steamroller go over you off and on all night, you'll wake up feeling like you've had enough sleep and be a bit more alert too.

I love a skim milk latte. I make the odd one here for myself at home too. But I drink black coffee first thing in the morning then switch to GOOD tea. Love black, green, white teas and even the odd cup of rooibos tea. I love earl grey tea too with milk AND sweet (BAD ME, so I don't drink it these days) But they're…

LOL I still get crazy cravings once in a while. When they get bad I drink water. A whole glass. If that doesn't work... make a stir fry with LOTS of onions and peppers and mushrooms, and..... share it with your family. (I don't have family close enough so have to store it or freeze it). As to the Dr. Pepper.... drink…

I am in the same boat. BUT I have found my paddle and lost 40 lbs. My bariatric doctor's a very wise person. He's asked me to make changes and suggested I get counselling. I'm talking with a dietician. I'm reading the material he set out for me to read. There are 3 surgeries for me to watch. Once I started actually losing…

I eat when I'm sad. I'm sad alot. I eat when I'm happy, to celebrate. I eat when I'm in turmoil. I eat when I'm hungry and sometimes can't stop. Sometimes it takes being accountable to someone or to something to force you to change. How many times can you say... "Food is my enemy" while you're still eating? It's taking me…

Figure out what form of movement you are happiest when you do. For me that was swimming. I had to get past the sad fact that kids are mean and harsh to do it too. I found an aquafit class and managed (barely) to stick it out the first time. For the last almost a month, I've been on a plateau and now I'm trying MFP to see…

If you're having a hard time being away from the phone, then turn on some music with a great beat but not loud enough to drown out that phone and dance. Even if you only do it for 15 minutes, its more than you would have exercised otherwise. If you manage 15 minutes once, try for twice, then 3 times in a day.... that makes…

I really don't think that a generalized index is ever going to do the whole job. It's certainly not the be all and end all of any kind of description of where I am fitness-wise. OK.... I'm not fit. I'm fat. But showing me my BMI on a chart isn't going to help me at all. In fact, it might just demoralize me.

MFP is a good tool. It's not the only tool out there but it's one that I quite like because it keeps me accountable without feeling like there's a phony Rah, Rah section or unaffordable "helps" being offered to those of us who are lower income and determined to do it on their own. BUT it's about YOU. If you can't keep to…

I'm from the north coast of British Columbia, Canada. The area I live in is a rainforest. It rains here or snows, sleets or hails about 300 days a year but when the sun shines..... WOW!

I don't know what stores you have nearby for clothing but I will look in consignment shops before goodwill for dressy stuff. We have clearance or liquidation stores that I go look at if I'm away from home to a larger city. The rest I will either buy on sale or just basics with elastic waists or adjustable waists (LL Bean…

Don't feel that you're alone. You're not. 8 months ago I was 40 lbs heavier. Right now I'm plateau'ing... and I started out at 300 lbs so you know I've got a long way to go. You're welcome to add me. My form of exercise is to do aquafit (water aerobics). When there's no aquafit, I'll swim laps or go for walks. Gyms are…

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that's gained and lost and gained back more than once. This time around, I'm accountable to myself and that's a good thing. But... I'm also accountable to my general practitioner and 2 specialists. I'm not even saying that will keep me from doing the yoyo thing again but this time I'm…
