  • Thank you! It's been so amazing hearing all the support and stories from everyone on this thread. :)
  • It's nice to have someone else's point of view on this matter. I'm not sure if this is getting too personal or not, but I'm extremely curious as my son can't tell me what he's feeling/thinking...why do you do all the hand-flapping, rocking and stimming etc.? I'm not trying to make light or anything, I just honestly am 100%…
  • I'm going to check around on Pinterest for some ideas. I didn't even think of that! I'm a Pinterest junkie! Lol! :) My son absolutely LOVES music. If he's having a bad temper tantrum, if I start just bursting out singing that'll usually calm him down. He loves music and will usually laugh and giggle right away. I'm going…
  • Thank you so much for this post! You seem to be full of information. I really, really appreciate it...more than you'll know. It's nice to hear that I'm a good mom (even though I don't know you in person!) from someone. I hear it at home, and i know I am one...but I always feel like there's more I can do with him and I get…
  • Oh, my gosh, when I heard the word autism from someone else I felt like I was literally dying. It's like the whole world stopped moving for what seemed like forever. I just...sat there. And stared at this woman who was saying this to me. I will never forget that moment for as long as I live. I swear the air went out of the…
  • Thanks for the book recommendations everyone! I'm becoming so educated on this subject, I could build a library with all the books I have. :) Also, can anyone shed some light on their children with speaking? That's my main concern for my son. He doesn't even babble and he's going to be 18 months old next month. He laughs…
  • That's so cool that you're writing your dissertation on autism and music therapy! How great!! My son does make eye contact with me and that's about it. He only seems to make consistent eye contact with myself and his father. It's like he could care less when other people come into a room or try to interact with him. He…
  • Haha, trash talking! That's too funny!! I hope my son talks one day. He is still so young, but to not hear your baby babble or say "mama" or "dada"...oh, gosh, it breaks my heart. That's what I'm so scared of. I don't want my son picked on in school...(even though it is a long time away still.) Kids can be so cruel.…
  • How is everyone doing? I'm interested in this thread still, so hopefully some of you that replied can update me/us on how your little ones are doing. My son is 17 months now and he still has no language at all. He sees a developmental specialist who does therapy with him 3x a week. We have an official appointment with a…
  • That's awesome! Good for you! I love moments like that.
  • LOL Butterfingers...that is too cute!! I'm so glad that he had a good time. I love hearing all these stories. They uplift me so much and give me so much hope for my son. I know he is so little now that a lot of progress can be made.
  • How did it go? :)
  • Thanks for your post!! It's so nice to hear such great stories. Your son sounds lovely. I might try a gluten free, casein free, soy free diet for my son. I mean, it can't hurt right? He is seeing a behavioral pediatrician next month, and while I am very nervous I know knowing for sure is better than wiating around not…
  • Just a quick update if anyone is interested. I have an appointment with a really well-respected Behavioral Pediatrician in October. I'm nervous to see what the outcome is, but feel I am in good hands with this doctor. I'll make sure to keep everyone posted as to what the outcome is! Of course I want him to say, "Don't be…
  • Thanks for your story! It's so interesting to hear everyone's personal stories. My son sounds a lot like yours especially with the hand thing. He'll flick his fingers over and over and over. I'm a little leary of the whole DAN doctor thing. I don't know...I've gotten so many mixed feelings from different people on them as…
  • that's amazing!!! Good for you!! I know how happy you are. I tried for years to get pregnant when I was heavy...it just DID NOT HAPPEN for me. Once I lost 30 pounds...BAM! Two kids in two years. :) Congrats!
  • My son has really good eye contact, so I'm really glad about that. The main concern of mine is that he "stims" a lot with certain objects. He will find a tag on a blanket or a small piece of string and will repeatedly flick it or scratch it with his left hand. He does it all the time. I'm not sure if I should discourage it…
  • I don't know if this is "taboo" or whatever with autistic parents... Has anyone tried to GFCF diet? I have been reading everything and anything I can about autism and that particular diet seems to come up a lot. My son's early intervention therapist told me it's a bunch of crap basically and that it doesn't work. I've read…
  • Thank you! I've been hearing lots and lots of people say that their children didn't speak until 3 or 4 or even later. That's good news for me, so there is hope! Just because my son isn't speaking now doesn't mean he won't ever speak, thank goodness. I just want to hear his little voice! :) I am already getting bombarded…
  • Thank you for this. It's so inspiring to hear such nice stories like your son's. He sounds like he has made excellent progress. That's wonderful! My son currenly has no words or babbling whatsoever, but I am hopeful. I just want what's best for him and I want him to be able to go to school, have friends, etc. I guess I'm…
  • Thank you! I've ordered some books and am working on getting more knowledge about the subject. It's only been three days since I heard the news and I'm still processing everything. I know I shouldn't feel completely devastated but i can't help it. It seems like all I've done the past three days is cry all day long. How can…
  • Thank you everyone for all the information and support! You all don't know how much this means to me. I have been reading everything I can about autism and educating myself. In response to the above question - he does smile when smiled at and has excellent eye contact. He does not wave bye or have any gestures and does not…
  • Have you tried the Slim in 6 DVD workouts? They're great and loaded with TONS of squats and lunges. I was sore for days afterward but it's amazing how quickly your thighs and legs get so strong. I'd recommend that one. :)
  • I've been wanting to try that Olay cleaning brush!! How much is it/do you like it etc?
  • WHat a fun thread idea! I love makeup and skincare but I've narrowed my list down...this was harder than I thought! 1. Urban Decay Naked II Palette...I use this every single day. Love it. 2. Noxema facial cleanser. Been using this since I was a teenager and still love it 10 years later. My skin looks great. 3. Olay…
  • Sorry I can't help, but I would also be interested in hearing what others have to say about this. I'm so clueless...i never even really HEARD of a HRM until I joined MFP. Does it strap around your arm, chest...it tells you exactly how many calories you're burning? Someone fill me in too please?! :) I've just been…

  • What a great discussion! I've also had people tell me that running is the "best" form of exercise. I just HATE it. I mean, honestly hate, hate running. I wish I could come to love it but I find it so boooorrrinng! I do other aerobic exercises (addicted to step aerobics) which I think is just as good as running. Maybe I'll…
  • Hi there! I'm 26 now and have been a vegetarian for over 10 years. I do eat eggs, milk, cheese, but no red meat, chicken, turkey or fish. It gets soooo much easier as time goes on and you won't have cravings for me at ALL after a while. My husband loves steak and chicken and I never once get a craving for those foods even…
  • Feel free to add me as well! I'm a 26 year old mom of 2 kids under 2 years old, so the more friends on here the merrier! :)
