Who says you have to go to the gym? :) I think a much more positive attitude would be finding something active that you like - hiking? Long walks? Classes with other people? Personally, I burn a good amount of calories playing volleyball once or twice a week. I've enjoyed zumba and yoga classes. Sometimes when I'm bored I…

Congrats on deciding to make such a big change! First of all, it's great that you're kind of diving head first, but if you're making yourself feel sick there's no reason you can't scale back just a bit... there's definitely some level of activity for you that's tough and challenging but not going to make you ill. I think a…

Another perspective is that when you're so close to your goal, the number of pounds is kind of irrelevant. The ratio of muscle to fat in your body becomes the key factor in how you actually look - not the number on the scale. Personally, I can be 140ish pounds and still chubby-looking, because I dieted without exercise…

Unless you have a medical reason why you need to regulate sugar, I would just worry about the overall calories and not worry about the sugar you get from fruits. If you want to regulate how much sugar you get from other sources, that's up to you. I go over my sugar all the time, but so long as it's from mostly fruit and a…

I've tried to somewhat lower my carb intake over the past months, but I'm by no-means "low carb" Switching to "low fat" kind of worries me...? Are you trying to cut all fats, or just cut trans fats? Healthy fats from things like fish, nuts, olive oil, etc, are a very important part of a healthy diet, and they tend to go…

Bodyweight exercises can be great, as suggested previously. Then you don't need any specific equipment. Another thought is that there are 30-day shred videos on youtube - if you pick up some ~5 lb handweights, that can be a great workout in under 30 minutes. Those are all ways to save you time and money - anyone can fit…

Yeah, the water retained from extra sodium can really disguise legitimate weight loss. Such a pain :) I'll still eat things with high sodium occasionally (kind of impossible to avoid), I just keep in mind that my weight is likely to shoot up a pound or two temporarily because of it. Over the superbowl weekend, I "gained"…

I think you can definitely just do whatever feels right to you. Up them all at once, or gradually, I think it's mostly just a preference 1200 is probably currently too low (as you already know). I'd consider upping it to at least about 1400-1500 right away, and consider adding another 200ish calories a few weeks later Just…

I have a couple points... One, are you weighing yourself at the same time of day? Even if you are, fluctuations like that are well within the normal range. Even seeing the scale go up/down 3-4 pounds can be kind of meaningless. You have to watch the trends over weeks and months to see your real weight loss Two, I see…

Mine are set to 40/30/30 (carb/protein/fat), and I've had good success on that. It's just a suggestion, though - some days I go over on fat, some days on carbs. It just tends to even out over time. I have a hard time hitting the protein goal regularly, but I'm working on it :) I did think of one thing you should just be…

Good advice :) Yeah, if I eat something at a non-chain restaurant, I just try and find a similar entry at a chain. If possible, I try and look at the menu ahead of time, just to get an idea of what the best choices might be. If I'm being good, I'll avoid excessive carbs (salad instead of fries), avoid fried things, avoid…

Yeah, I would say the most likely culprits are... 1) You need to rest up some. Maybe you need 2-3 rest days each week instead of 1-2. If it was me, I'd consider cutting out one of the days of cardio 2) You're not eating enough. I don't know your height/current weight, but I would bet that you should be eating more, even…

Agreed, talking to a doctor and a physical therapist is probably the right answer. They can show you the stretches/exercises you should be doing to strengthen the areas around the knee, which helps take the pressure off it Cycling (especially stationary) and swimming are probably the lowest-impact exercises for people with…

If you want the most bang for your buck, this is the way to go. You can look up "bodyweight exercises" for more variations on this. If you can stretch the 15 minutes out to 30, you could look up the 30-day shred videos on youtube. Just get some real weights (5-10 lbs?), because you won't see the best results in that short…

YOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUU ...are inspiring. That's awesome. ...and can I mention? I weigh about 140, and your hips and thighs are smaller that mine. Bodies are weird, hahaha. ...okay I'm going to go work out now. Congrats on so much progress in such a short amount of time! And maybe more importantly, congrats on realizing how…

Yeah, if you try to avoid lots of rice/naan (I still eat it, just limit my portion), maybe order something not with a creamy sauce, and get something that includes some veggies... I wouldn't worry too much. Make reasonable choices, but don't totally sacrifice your enjoyment for the sake of a couple calories. Good luck!

is pretty much like ...in that it tends to lead to people making poor choices Find a smart routine, with a healthy rate of weight loss (usually around 1 pound a week, but as you get smaller it's going to be even less than that). You've got a lot of recommendations on how to start that here I'll say one thing, I GUARANTEE…

Yeah, that strategy makes no sense anywhere else in your life, why let it happen here? Oh, I lost my wallet, I may as well empty my savings account. Hahah. You obviously get it when you're clearheaded, it's just a matter of enforcing it when you're having a weak moment. Easier said than done, of course. I do find it easier…

You had two pretty significant operations done, and thus your body retained some weight while it was healing itself. Perhaps the drops contributed, perhaps not, but I really think that's nothing to worry about. And 2 pounds? I'll gain and lose the same 4-6 pounds over the course of weeks just depending on water weight and…

I think my usual strategy is to make sure I have a big glass of water to go with each glass of wine I might have. That slows the drinking a little, and helps keep you from getting too dehydrated. I'm not forsaking the things I want, just alternating with better choices :) And yeah, finger food is tough. Can you bring…

Congrats on making it to the appointment anyway, and congrats on your overall progress -- even if it feels like two steps forward and one step back, you're still progressing overall :) I think what obviously sticks out as the most harmful habit is the attitude that says "well, I already messed up, I may as well just…

So you're saying... You feel better You look better Friends/family are commenting on positive changes in your body But because the SCALE doesn't show enough change, you're failing? Take a step back and think about what's really important here. Congrats on your progress! :) And has been said, measurements can be much more…

I think it shows how successful marketing has been in the fast food industry... look at how much you get for an extra dollar! Nevermind the fact that the "small" is actually enough food, and eating more in the short term is only going to make you eat more in the long term... look at how much weight you gain for an extra…

At 1600 calories, there's no way you're eating too little. You WILL NOT put on weight eating that much. I checked a BMR calculator - you're basically eating the very bare minimum you should be. Eat at least that, and eat at least part of your exercise calories, and hopefully you'll continue to see progress. If you have…
-
Yeah, something to note, if you're set to 2 then you could easily eat extra any given day (probably even 500-1000 extra) and not gain weight -- maybe just not lose any weight that day. 3 pounds a week is really fast weight loss! If you find yourself having more problems, I would consider setting it to 1lb/week instead.…

When you look at your goals page, how much weight are you set to lose a week? If that number was a little smaller, and thus you got to eat more calories, would it be worth it to you to be able to eat until you're satisfied? My experience -- after a couple of months eating at 1400-1500 calories, my appetite went…
-
Hmmmm. I doubt you ate a 6-pound hamburger. And sorry, but you'd have to eat an extra 35,000 calories in a week to gain 10 pounds... somehow I don't see that being the problem. I mean, honestly? Maybe you need a new doctor. And a new nutritionist. The one's you've seen obviously haven't helped. Maybe you have an…

Not to be unkind, but this simply isn't true. More reps with light weights is basically useless... it may count as light cardio, but you won't build muscles that way. Lifting heavy isn't going to suddenly make you bulky... I've been trying to lift weights for more than the last 6 months, and you can't even tell I'm more…
-
I see a lot of frustration, because maybe half the weight you want to lose comes off easily, but then the rate really starts to slow down... Just keep being smart about things, and whether or not you hit your goal in September, you'll still have made absolutely awesome progress by then Also, the closer you get to a healthy…

One, it's awfully hard to diagnose what's up if you don't log your whole day. Maybe your dinners are actually less calories than you think, so you're not hitting your calorie goal? Of course then you'd be hungry the next day Two, it's protein and fat that keep me full, but you barely get any fat in your diet. Fat is not…
