  • this is good to know. i've been wondering this myself.
  • I'd be afraid to weigh myself every day - I think I'd put too much, um, "weight" (haha) on what the scale said. If I seemed to be going in the wrong direction it would mess with my whole day, emotionally. You daily weighers must have some really precision scales, as well!
  • Today was my 4th day. I have lots of steel in my left arm from a car accident and the muscles and tendons were feeling the strain, so I took it easy with that arm today - but it is definitely getting easier to do Level One! I feel encouraged about something for a change! Hopefully, when the time comes to switch to Level…
  • Danimich, I know how you feel! I started 30-Day Shred on Sunday - would love to talk to others who are doing it. I do this and then Rodney Yee's "AM Yoga" right after. I need Yoga to balance out after the hyper-disco blast of Jillian Michaels' workout. If anyone here wants support, add me as a friend. I could use some…
  • For all the people who claim sugar isn't toxic, that it doesn't contribute to diabetes, etc - are there studies that prove that? jelben, thanks for the article!
  • LOL. I was just quoted, and someone said my post was difficult. I was only trying to clarify. The history of sugar, though interesting to academic types like myself, is beside the point, if the point is whether or not sugar is toxic - you're right. Enjoy.
  • is it difficult to understand? is that what you mean? If so, what is it that is "difficult"? I think if you look back at the last 500 years, you will see the connections between the trans-atlantic slave trade, the colonization of the Americas and development of modern industry, including the growth of the sugar industry.…
  • For those who still have an open mind, there's an excellent article on the subject here: http://www.westonaprice.org/childrens-health/zapping-sugar-cravings
  • Johnsnana, you bravely shared your story and I hope people won't be discouraged from doing so in the future because of someone else's insensitivity.
  • That's ketoacidosis - way on the other end of the pH scale. Ketosis is different. I don't think anyone was advocating it - just saying that the brain can be fueled by fat as well as carbohydrate/glucose/
  • Me too, on both counts (75lbs and Jillian Michael's). The post-pregnancy thing doesn't work for me anymore though, now that my son is 17! LOL. I was hit by a car and stopped walking or getting any exercise, basically. ANd I discovered what an excellent chef I am! ANyway, glad to join this group.
  • *throws down glove* why, good sir (?), i take umbrage at this disparagement of my character! I will endlessly debate any point, even if the point keeps being changed from what i said to something i did not say, simply because i have nothing better to do! have at thee!!! seriously, though. is the question one of toxicity…
  • I enjoy a good debate, but I really do have to eat. I worked out a lot today. I just stumbled onto this one and thought I'd add my two cents. Didn't know MFP was so lively! Please do your research on sugar, instead of debating it - look around and make up your own mind. Comparing it to peanut butter is ridiculous. Why not…
  • The history lesson part, frankly, I don't have time for right now. Maybe after dinner, if I still feel like playing :). A little research on Google would probably show you the truth, but I can see you aren't that sort of guy. The sugar part is easy - I am not claiming a metabolic difference between refined sugars and…
  • With something that is good for you, moderation is the key. With smoking, you wouldn't say "moderation is the key", right? You'd say - better to stop using it, or cut way back if you are too addicted to stop altogether. Our bodies need water. Yes, you can drown. But you can't stop drinking water, and you shouldn't try. We…
  • Good luck proving that.
  • The only source of fuel for your brain is glucose. Which it can make from any available carbohydrates in your food, or from fat ("ketosis"). Added sugar is absolutely unnecessary, medically, if that's what you're trying to say.
  • The simple answer is: Yes, refined sugar is essentially toxic. You might not want to believe it, but it's true. And the American Diabetes Association has nothing to gain from you knowing how toxic it is. When processed sugars first started entering the European/Western diet, women herbalists (the "Old Wives" of the…
  • Hey gseburn: As a diabetic for many years, carbs spike my blood sugar quickly - almost any kind. Small amounts of insulin by injection also work quickly - but my goal is to get off of these pharmaceuticals altogether, so my diet needs to be more extreme than most. Thanks, though! It's good to get helpful feedback.
  • I just tried them out for the first time tonight, on the recommendation of a woman at my gym who swears by them - and I love the taste! I just put a teaspoon in my evening herb tea and used a spoon to scoop up the bits. I am a big girl, a big cook, and I love the taste, so if it lowers my blood sugar, blood pressure and…
  • As many times as I did searches for Yoga and Pilates, I came up with nothing - then as soon as you pointed it out to me, there it was! :) Thank you!! I'm glad to be able to add this to my daily chart, things weren't complete without it. And you seem to be making great progress! Congratulations!
  • Rubybelle, thank you very much!
