  • I go back and log it to the best of my ability. If I go back and log it, I am less likely to get out of the habit of logging. It's only one day now, but it's way too easy to get into that pattern and quit logging completely. Especially in the beginning.
  • Yup, I made the switch 86 pounds ago. Weight Watchers is a great program and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it and I lost weight with it. However, MFP is better for ME. I don't need or want the accountability of paying dues and formally weighing in with a witness each week. I also prefer to count calories vs.…
  • I log every day, regardless of the day of the week. I do tend to eat a little more on the weekends, but without logging, it's too easy for me to conveniently "forget" just how much I am eating and completely blow my weekly deficit and gain.
  • I made a mistake - I replace all of the oil with applesauce. Oh, and each serving is 98 calories with 17 g of carbs. An 11x17 cake pan makes 24 servings.
  • I make a chocolate zucchini cake that is wonderful that replaces half the white flour with almond flour, half the sugar with artificial sweetener and half the oil with unsweetened applesauce. I suppose you could replace all of those three ingredients if you wanted to go even more lo-carb and lo-fat, but I prefer the taste…
  • Take one day at a time. Make good choices today and today only. Then tomorrow, do it over. Don't worry about yesterday because you can't change it. It sounds really simple, but it works. If you only focus on today, it becomes much easier. Sometimes looking long-term or at your end goal just seems so daunting and makes it…
  • The kitchen where I get my water is on the floor below me. I use a smaller glass so I have to go get water often. When I get water, I go down stairs, to the kitchen, up the back stairs and out the back door, around the building and back in through the front door, up the stairs and back to my office. It's about a 4 minute…
  • There are times when coffee smells much better than roses.... LOL
  • Oh, I didn't say I was never impatient! LOL When I get impatient though, I pull out some pics from where I started and realize how far I have come already. I still have issues that will continue to improve as I drop more weight, but it's amazing how much of my issues have improved and/or gone away completely. Even losing a…
  • I'm taking a very, very slow route with my weight loss. I want it to be sustainable and realistic and I want it to last forever. For me, this plan has worked beautifully. It's taken me almost 3 years to lose 90 pounds and I still have about 30 to go, but my life has changed dramatically and I feel fantastic. That being…
  • Every scale is different. You will almost ALWAYS get a different weight on every scale you step on. Use only one to track progress.
  • I either go to the gym in the morning before work and/or I will go for a walk at lunch if the weather is good. It's easier for me to work out in the dark if it is in the morning rather than the evening. At night, like you, I just want to curl up in bed. however, if I drag myself out of bed early and get it done before…
  • For today I will stay out of the snacks in the break room at work and go for a walk at lunch.
  • Let's see, I'm in my 40's, have thyroid issues and am diabetic. However, I've lost over 85 pounds, lowered my A1C into the "normal" range and am in the best shape of my life. I still eat everything (in moderation), including ice cream, chocolate and full-fat cheese. Because of the diabetes, I have to limit how many carbs I…
  • QFT. I don't want anyone dictating what I can and cannot eat. I can figure that out on my own. So can anyone else who wants to take the time and effort to do it. I don't want to be punished just because some people want to find someone else to blame and won't self-regulate themselves.
  • It changes my weight, but I weigh in anyway. It's just information.
  • I will stick to my normal routine through the holidays - eating at a deficit and exercising every day. On the actual days of the holidays (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), I will eat what I want without tracking, but then right back to normal the very next day. As long as I don't turn Thanksgiving and…
  • Great advice! Only you can decide if it is going to derail your day or not. Log it and see what it does to your day. Personally, I love McMuffins and can easy fit them into my day on a semi-regular basis.
  • Very true words! There are no magic bullets out there. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to be committed to putting in a lot of work. That is all there is to it and there is no way around it. Even if you were to find someone to approve weight loss surgery for you, if you don't learn how to eat properly,…
  • I weigh myself daily and have for the past couple of years. I do this to see the trend. What did I eat the night before? Did I exercise? Is it that time of month? I have developed a long enough history now, that I can pretty closely predict what the scale is going to tell me before I step on it just from knowing what I did…
  • I have an almost 11-year-old in 5th grade. He has one 2-page math assignment or Kahn Academy (online math practice) assignment each night; he has one reading response journal assignment each week that they have all week to work on and it is due Thursday; and he is supposed to read 20 minutes each night. In total, he spends…
  • this is the best advice! Along with don't eat to the point of bursting. That just makes you miserable. Also, instead of a buffet, why don't you go to a sit-down Chinese restaurant and just order your favorite dish? You get your favorite without the temptation of repeatedly going to the buffet line.
  • What a fatalistic attitude! I have been overweight my entire life. I so wish I had learned at 19 what I know now and had started doing something about it then. If you start now with good habits eating and moving your body, why would you ever need to be over weight??? Stop the cycle now, while it's easy!!!
  • This. Right here. You don't have to go to the gym and sweat through a power lifting class to exercise! Find something physical that you like and enjoy and do that. Dance, walk around campus, swim, hike, walk the dog, anything that incorporates movement. Can you lose weight without exercise? Absolutely!!! However, will you…
  • I did Weight Watchers for a long time and both gained and lost many pounds while doing it (both directions were entirely my own fault). Weight Watchers is a fantastic program. I have had much more success here though and am now down 85 pounds. This just works with *MY* lifestyle better. I love counting calories and being…
  • I started at over 260#s. It took me about 3 months to lose the first 25, but the more I lost, the slower it got and I am losing at a snail's pace now. 1-2 pounds per month is all, but it is a loss and as long as the scale is going in the right direction, it really doesn't matter!
  • 1 pound in a week is fantastic! It's a nice, safe, healthy rate of loss! 1 pound a week is 52 pounds in a year. If you were GAINING at that rate, it wouldn't seem so small, would it? Never, ever, say "only" in front of a loss. That being said, weight is lost in the kitchen and you get fit in the gym. Exercise is great for…
  • Are you completely honest in your food log? You have to log every bite, lick and taste. Use a food scale, measuring cups and measuring spoons for everything you eat (the scale is the most accurate). Do not use generic and/or other's "homemade" items because you have no idea what makes up those entries and whether or not…
  • That's part of your problem right there! Learn to fix meals for yourself! Homemade food tastes MUCH better and you can eat a whole lot more for the same amount of calories! Also, do not do anything to lose weight that you aren't willing to do FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE because, if you are miserable losing weight, you will…
  • Yes, I have a job that brings me in constant contact with the public. I'd rather not get something from them that I could have prevented!
