  • There is so much hidden salt in processed foods. This is a list with surprisingly high amounts of sodium: 1. Bread (store bought) 2. Deli Meats (2 ounces could contain half your daily allowable sodium intake) 3. Pizza 4. Chicken breast (they inject brine to plump up the meat - check the label - not all chicken is altered…
  • You can get a bread machine at the second hand store pretty inexpensively. It's usually about $50 at Target. Homemade bread is amazingly cheap to make and it does taste so much better than store bought. The only pricey ingredient would be the yeast but you can buy that cheap in a big container at Costco or Sam's Club. I…
  • Love tofu. I usually put it in stir fry but I always cut off a chunk and eat it plain. Tempeh is amazing - definitely worth trying if you haven't yet.
  • You may be able to grill it or roast it - I found a couple of recipes on allrecipes.com. Sadly it is really good breaded and deep fried - but then again most things are. Edited to add - allrecipes does have a recipe for oven "fried" okra. Personally I love it in gumbo.

  • Wow - you both did an amazing job! You can now definitively claim hot couple status.
  • This is a really great article describing how to lighten up foods that guys generally like and appreciate. http://www.cookinglight.com/eating-smart/smart-choices/guy-foods-lightened-00412000067595/page13.html Also, check out skinnytaste.com - there are some simple but amazing recipes you can try. • Second on logging your food. I'm much more successful when I'm accurately tracking what I eat. I try to focus on staying below the macros especially sugar and sodium. I'm adding more exercise and that seems to help a great deal with feeling better. Hoping the scale will reflect this soon. There is plenty of advice on this…
  • The problem was bad strips. I tested in the AM before eating (213) and then drank a coffee with 2 tsp sugar and half/half testing 1/2 hour later (223). Normally if I eat some sugar or even one hershey's kiss, my BG would shoot up 40-80 points. Thanks for your suggestions.
  • No idea how much it costs. I've known people who have had tremendous success and tremendous failures. But one common theme seems to be that this is the last resort for many people. I've gained and lost over the years but when I did lose the weight, there were a few common denominators: 1.) eating less sugar and fried foods…
  • Love Jennifer Tilly's figure. Yah - it's so sad that nearly everything is photo shopped. People try for the impossible. I love getting onto www.mybodygallery.com to see what normal people look like at varying weights.
  • First of all, congrats on the amazing weight loss! Secondly, hoping you heal soon. And thirdly, SMACK upside the head!! What the hell are you doing out of bed???? Follow doctor's orders and rest until you are feel 100%. Heck with groceries - the hubby is a big boy - he can get the groceries for a short period of time and…
  • I'm looking forward to the day when I get kicked out of Lane Bryant because they don't have any choices for me there. Congrats on the 89 lbs loss - just fantastic!

  • From someone who likes to make the decisions on who is good-looking and who isn't, he is pretty hideous. Wow - plastic surgery gone horribly wrong.

  • Control solution? I will look into this. Am going to the pharmacy this evening. Thanks so much for all your help!
  • :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: FR sent. So glad you are taking back control of your appetite. Don't fear the scale. You have to assess the weight gain so you can re-group and get back on your program. I gained 15 pounds due to stress eating - it's so easy to do when Jack in the Box is your best friend. I'm 5 pounds over…
  • I just changed my sodium limit from 2500 to 1500 here due to high blood pressure. It is really hard - but I'm continually making modifications so I hope to be at 1500 mg soon. Stuff I've learned: 1. Most cheeses (including Laughing Cow) are now off limits. Just glad there is still low sodium swiss. 2. Making your own…
  • Yep - me neither. When we would drive past a herd of cows, he was tell me that's where he got me from. He would say that every. single. time.
  • Yes you are a complete failure. You are no better than my gluttonous little dachshund who tore into my daughter's mac and cheese that she left on the couch. We kicked the dog out of the house and into the back yard to give her time to think about what she had done. I suggest you seriously think about all the damage done -…
  • Sent you FR. Just throwing out some ideas that may or may not help. One friend got some food allergy testing done and found out she was allergic or had mild responses to certain food. She cut the foods she had reactions to and dropped 30 pounds in 4 months. I'm not saying this would happen to you but who knows... My friend…
  • Lipton brewed unsweetened ice tea for hot days - very refreshing. Unsweetened coconut milk and almond milk Green tea at work I've switched from full sugar coffee with fake creamer to unsweetened coffee with half and half On occasion I'll have a fountain diet pepsi when I get a strong craving for it but even one diet soda…
  • Amazing job! And congrats on your engagement - you are a great looking couple.
  • <<writing this down on a sticky note and posting it on my wall of inspiration>> BTW - amazing job on the weight loss MCLA4mom!
  • Yep. Smug vegetarians Smug carnivores Smug omnivores Smug cannibals Cheese haters Single food fad diet devotees Miracle pill pushers IIFIMMers Clean eaters OCD TDEE folks Generally though, people here have supported healthy eating and regular exercise which (gasp) has been my formula for success. I've appreciated all the…
  •   So true!! I skipped my last 2 HS reunions in Iowa because I couldn't stand being looked down upon despite my personal and professional successes. The most popular people in my HS graduating class haven't changed - they are still dumb and drunk.
  • Great post. Totally agree. I'm also tired of the people who "complain" that you really should drop some weight but then fret that you've lost too much weight because you are approaching your goal weight. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  • As someone who grew up damn poor but managed to claw my way out, get some schooling and now live a semi-middle class life, eating clean was the last thing on my mind and the minds of my parents. Maybe I'm wrong but our family drama was out there for the world to see - alcoholism, mental illness, unstable home and work life…
  • Just made this using regular cabbage - it was delish! I didn't shred the cabbage because my food processor is broken. Just sliced it into thin strips. I'm totally adding this to my regular menu. Thanks for posting it! Edited because I can't spell anymore.
  • 1 - 16 oz container with a couple of chopped green onions. It tastes even better the next day.
  • Thank you SO SO SO much for posting this. I've missed pad thai because it was a calorie/carb/sodium culinary nuclear bomb. Will look up the spaghetti squash version too. Didn't even think of that.
  • I won't disagree with you on that. Although there is one fond memory from my junior year at ISU in 1992 - ISU 19 / Nebraska 10. T-shirts were printed up saying "Proof there is God: ISU 19 Nebraska 10". It was almost as good as the ISU win over Oklahoma State 2 years ago in triple overtime. The Cyclones football team…
