You asked our opinion - I will share mine based on my experience. I went to a psycologist. Growing up in an extremely dysfunctional family, as we became adults (actually even before we became adults) two of my siblings turned to alcohol, one of my siblings and I turned to food. That continued after I got married, and if I…

The booth was a big one for me! Now I am planning to do some other things I have denied myself: Fit in a movie seat again. Fly in an airplane again. Ride a roller coaster again. Try a waterslide for thefirst time Ride a horse for the first time Still on my "debating wether or not to try" list: Snow skiing water skiing Go…

  Just so I can be accurate.... How long does one have to scratch their butt to burn a full calorie? ROFL!!!!

I'm going to approach this issue similar to another issue where some people get irritated and it RUINS THEIR WORKOUT when the obseve other people (me included) hold the rails when I walk on the treadmill........ It doesn't matter what other people do. Personally, I only log what I do at the gym, or the 5K events I…

Thanks! I do not run, but walk. I have been increasing my speed, but I still walk. I can feel the belt on the treadmill slip sometimes, and I really don't want to blow out my knee. So I hold on to the rails. How me holding on to the rails of the treadmill I am on impedes someone else's workout is still a mystery to me. (If…

This has been discussed before. I'm glad you don't come to my gym. I hold on to the rails for the whole hour. Not quite sure how that infringes on anyone else's workout.

Yes, if you are in a car traffic jam on the freeway where the speed limit is 75. The last 5K i did was 53 minutes, down from well over an hour when I first started doing them 2 years ago. Improve yourself, don't try and keep up with the Jones'.

Loufa is a bit too chewy for me. :)

I HOLD ON TO THE RAILS! OMG!!!!! Ya know, when I first hopped on a treadmill years ago, I did 15 minutes at a 2.0 pace and it kicked my *kitten*. I was a big boy, and could feel the belt slip if I exerted too much force forward while the belt was trying to move in the opposite direction. I don't need to be blowing out my…

Ditto the book Toxic Parents. Ditto counseling. Ditto moving on. I literally dis-associated myself from my parents. Both of them. I was not the only sibling to do so. It wasn't easy, but my sanity and self esteem was more important than maintaining an extremely dysfunctional relationship.

MMMMMMMM.....Pierogies ! Fried in Butter. And Golubki. With Paczki for dessert. Polish comfort foods, made by Grandma, who came over on the boat. No wonder I'm fat! Pierogies are a Polish food - kind of like a ravioli, but hand made. They can be filled with anything, but tradition is potato-based. In our household we also…

I posted this on a similar thread a little while ago, but it is more pertinant to this thread. Now its a joke with some people "2 Pounds!" I have lost a visibly significant amount of weight. But over the course as I lost more and more, people who would NEVER interact with me would all of a sudden want to talk with me -…

Yes, thank you MFP for helping so many people and making a business out of it from the advertising revenue. As I was reading this thread - I found it quite ironic that it was Amazon.com advertising that they now carried Lays Potato Chips!

I have lost a visibly significant amount of weight. But over the course as I lost more and more, people who would NEVER interact with me would all of a sudden want to talk with me - about my weight. With the most frequent question being "How much have you lost?" Not a compliment that I look good, but just an inquiry as to…

When I dropped below 300 (for the first time in about 30 years) I bought myself a pet fish. A Betta.
-
OK, my mistake. I forgot to add my disclaimer "FOR ME" to my post. Everyone is different. If someone can loose 300 a different way, great. I will say that I personally have changed my attitude from a LIVE TO EAT attitude to a EAT TO LIVE attitude. Technically, any calorie still on the table is an un-eaten calorie.…

I want to second this !!! 117 lbs CAN NOT be done by eating the exercise cals. I too try and stay under the initial goal.

Hey there beautiful.

Its a great feeling shrinking into old clothes. Congrats!!! Kinda makes me wish I kept my 3-piece powder blue leisure suit from the 70's LOL

No, but sugar was critical piece in the puzzle FOR ME. I eat under my calorie goal and do my exercise. I can eat fruit, but have to include the sugars to stay under 40 a day. So I personally have chosen to shy away from fruit more. That doesn't mean that I am going to shun it completely, but I am no longer buying a bunch…
-
I was stuck, and my trainer said it was the sugar. I would start off the morning with a bananna, and also eat other fruit as snacks. Healthy, right? Not for me. Once I eliminated the fruit, the weight started coming off again. Everyone is different. I also found a great yougurt that only has 2g of sugar, so I can get a…

I agree - sensational garbage. Is all these people fainting on their first day really the healthiest way to lose weight?

In Texas, alcohol cannot be purchased before noon on a Sunday. In Sam's Club, I purchased a bottle of sparkling grape juice for my young daughters to drink on New Year's Eve. The guy at the front door who checks your reciept before you walk out would not let me walk out because my purchase had been made at 11:57 AM, three…

Strictly humor, Ladies>>> From a man's point of view, before I WEIGH IN on the subject, I would need to have a FIRM GRASP of BOTH SIDES if the issue! And on a serious note - from a man's point of view, obviously socially unacceptable for a man to wear a bra, and I wouldn't want to anyway. But I did find a place that has…

Every person is different. I try to use an old government trick - incrementalism. Once I feel comfortable at something, I boost the pace on the treadmill by 1/10, or increase the weights by 10 lbs., or add one exercise or machine. I also had to learn moderation - once I found myself spending 3+ hours in the gym every time…

Congrats! I also participate in 5K events. With my size, people are amazed when they learn I do them. Its not about the time, its about the starting and finishing. (My times are 55-62 Minutes). Keep it up!
