no, a huge time commitment for each training session. i didn't realize that by doing compound lifts that i could potentially cut my lifting time in half.
-
first, thanks for all the feedback. you're making me feel better about the whole thing. and less overwhelmed. because i didn't realize that i could go from 12 machines to 3-4 compound exercises. that sort of amazes and astounds me. how can 3-4 compound exercises replace what 12 machines can do for me? perhaps i'm having a…

when he talks about eating at your maintenance calories for a week every 12 weeks to switch things up, is he referring to your maintenance calories at your current weight or your target weight? this is an important distinction.

i need the calories. for the first time tonight i drank 1% horizon organic chocolate milk and holy mother of god was it good. it's like the best chocolate milk i've ever had and i usually prefer the full fat variety.

its generally considered bad form to bump your own post because you haven't gotten a response. especially if it's only been 4 minutes. i'm sure people will respond to your question.

i don't think there is anything wrong with 1% or even 2%. it just has more fat in it.

how is a treadmill easier on the joints??? as far as i know, it's the elliptical that is easier on the joints.

Try this or some variation of this: Protein Freezer Treats ½ Cup Soy Milk (I use light vanilla flavor) ¾ of a scoop of Protein Powder (Whey-high protein/low carb mix) 1 teaspoon of cool whip (fat free works great) Additional sweetener (1/2 Splenda packet), cinnamon, nutmeg or other as you desire Mix all together in a 1 cup…

typically you should eat about .8 - 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass - especially if you are lifting weights. i've read that it's not particularly harmful if you go over that amount, your body will eliminate the excess. i have read that it can be harmful to your liver (or is it kidneys) to eat alot of protein,…

you will be able to do this. millions of people have. lots of them overweight and out of shape too. just expect that you're going to have to repeat workouts and/or weeks of the training. expect this up front so you're not disappointed when it happens. it's no big deal. the important thing is to keep going and do what you…

how does it work when you also use a HRM during exercise? do you just take it off during those periods so that it doesn't track or do you have to go online and modify it there? also, i'd heard that riding in the car (or subway, etc) can sometimes make it very inaccurate as far as stairs or steps, especially if it's hilly.…

i just can't understand the purpose of this. and i'm annoyed that polar doesn't have a more accurate way to measure calories. how hard would it be to include BF in the user information? i have a pretty good idea what my BF is because i got it tested in a body pod. although it was a year ago and i was 12 lbs lighter, i…
-
i think the bodypod is second to the water tank in terms of accuracy. it cost me $30 at the university gym.

i have 64 lbs to lose and i feel the same way. i can only imagine how you must feel. what i'm thinking (hoping) is that after the first 20 or 30 lbs (or first few inches) i will see or feel a change and that will then push me forward. i have only been at this 11 days, but i feel pretty motivated. i do think there is…

when i signed up at my ymca i had just been laid off so i was able to get in at the lowest end of the sliding scale - which was $38/mo. the high end is like $65. The rates go up every year so now i am paying around $45. keep in mind i am still at the lowest end of the scale. i am constantly amazed that it is this…

well i do my whole entire body at the same time? is that bad?? i would rather go to the gym 3x a week than 5 or 6 times.
-
do what works for you and what makes you want to consistently do it. alot of people will say free weights are the way to go and that the machines aren't that great. but i know myself. right now, i'm doing the machines because i like it and i'm consistent. the free weights are overwhelming to me right now. if you choose to…

exactly. and this is why we are all getting cancer. there are lots of toxic influences that i am exposed to that i have no real control over. this is something i can control.

i love walker diet in chocolate. you can get it for a little under $1 a serving which is 4x less than shakeology. It's low sugar/carb, with a decent amount of protein and other vitamins. i highly recommend.

try another store or somewhere like whole foods. one store i go to only has milk with HFCS. another store i go to (not whole foods, just a normal store) has one milk brand that is real sugar. the rest are HFCS. they also carry a milk with splenda but i always get the one with real sugar. but next time i'm going to whole…

it may take a few weeks or months before you figure out what really works for you (i.e. how much exercise, how many calories, what to eat). the main thing is to make small consistent changes and to not give up.
-
make small changes. if you are in the habit of eating a lot of fast food, order the chicken sandwich but no fries and no coke. start drinking shakes once or twice a day. i like walker diet because it's cheap and is alot better than slimfast. i also eat a lot of lean cuisines, which i know are crap but it's better than…

just like your body gets bored with the same exercise and plateaus, you have to vary your calorie intake about once a week. providing a spike in calories keeps your body from getting into a rut with the same number of calories consumed every day. or at least this is what i've read.
-
i've never heard that you should eat fat in the recovery meal. i think the benefit of milk, especially chocolate milk, is that it has the perfect 2/1 ratio of carbs to protein, and is cheap.
-
if you don't require the slimfast ready to drink shakes (which i think taste pretty amazing) and can deal with a powder, you should check out walker diet. all of the numbers are better than slimfast with much higher protein, lower sugar, low carb and much higher percentages of vitamins. it's also a little less than $1 a…

the vibram five finger shoes get pretty good reviews but sort of look weird - at least in my opinion. you might check out some of the minimalist shoes out there. essentially, the same thing but they look like a normal tennis shoe, although without the arch (or drop as they call it). there are a lot of minimalist running…

this. i read this in a few articles - that unless you are an endurance or competitive athlete or that you are already near your HWR, that its not necessary to do this. it's all so subjective though - so i dunno. i think i'm going to not do it for the most part.
-
i said it was totally doable and that people do it all the time, but that i think it's hard on your body. when i jog just a short distance and my lower body hurts (i have no prior injury or illness) because i'm hauling around 65 extra lbs, it makes me wonder if i shouldn't hold off on the running just a bit.

i just got the polar ft60. it was about $150 from amazon. it comes pretty highly rated. i also have a forerunner 305 but i wanted something smaller. i've also read that the calorie counts on forerunners are on the low side.

i usually drink chocolate milk after a workout. i drink fat free skim chocolate milk made with real sugar. i have read many places that the most appropriate recovery "meal" has protein and carbs, but not fat. hence why i drink fat free chocolate milk. but this study seems to say that there is more benefit from drinking…
