Checking in a little earlier today! I enjoy reading the quotes that people use to spice up their posts. They give me something to think about... I'm doing well today with the vegan diet. My job kept me so busy today that I didn't have time for a proper lunch break so I will not need to worry about my usual bedtime eating…

Hello, Hope you all had a great New Year's Day. I was working but we got to have a little bit of fun with a potluck lunch. I kept my contribution healthy by making a fruit salad (red oranges, honeydew melon, red grapes, blueberries, and pineapple). I was about to drive to the store to pick up the fruit but decided to do…

Hi again! At Sylvia's request I'll tell you a bit about myself: I was married for 30 years but am recently divorced. I have two wonderful adult daughters who live together in their own place with a dog they've adopted from a shelter. I work full time in mental health on an outreach team as a Peer Specialist. We work with…

Hi everyone! I'm Anne from a suburb of Vancouver, BC. How does this thread work? Do we check in every week to say how things are going? Or do we just check in at the end of the month? Here goes - a few goals for me for January 2014:  To lose 6 lbs by January 31 (to be well on my way to my personal Goal…

Hey! I'm Canadian, too! I hail (and rain, and sun, and snow) from the Vancouver suburbs! I need friends who are going to challenge and motivate me to get moving again... How about you?

Thanks for the fun on this Canadian Thanksgiving night. Lots of great laughs!

You. Are. Magnificent.

I'm doing things a little slower. My stated goals, if achieved, will lead me to a 60 pound weight loss by the summer of 2015. I have to start a lot of good habits (like eating my meals at home instead of in restaurants, daily exercise, and so on) and the one-step-at-a-time approach works best for me! Good luck to you!

Hey! It has been a long journey to this quasi-vegan state that I find myself in. I married my ex- in 1980 and, since he was a lacto-ovo vegetarian, I ate vegetarian at home for the first 15 years or so. Then I decided to become a vegetarian completely. A few years later I decided to try veganism with the help of the…

Congratulations on a wonderful accomplishment. You overcame that lying voice that plagues all of us at times. What's next?

Bon appetit...

No words. Only the deepest sympathy for you, Danilynn1975, for this loss... Many prayers for you and your family.

HOPE... Don't give up hope! I had breast cancer (and a mastectomy) when I was 20 years old. That was 35 years ago! I'm a survivor. Treatments have come a long way. There's hope for your sister! Hope also for your husband! I developed a mental illness at the age of 30 with psychotic and paranoid symptoms along with…

In my mid-twenties I was addicted to aerobics classes and usually stood at the front of the class. During one session we were all jumping to the music when my prosthetic breast leapt out of my bra and t-shirt and onto the floor! I calmly picked it up stuffed it back where it belonged and regained the tempo!!

Thank you Marhod5 !!! This is fabulous information and I will save it and use it as a reference.

I know about stress eating and boredom eating and the-fridge-is-right-there eating and... For stress I like to have a list of the things that help to de-stress me (other than food). My list includes: - listening to music - spending time with my cat - taking a hot bath or shower - talking to a good friend - playing…

Lightly steamed Brussels sprouts served plain or with choice of mustard. Steamed sliced beets with a little salt. Asparagus sautéed in a little coconut oil with garlic, and lemon juice to finish. Baked sweet potatoes or yams with jackets. Eggplant in a casserole with tomatoes, green peppers, onions, butternut squash baked…

My story's a little different. I joined MFP after losing 10 pounds on my own. I lost a further 14 pounds - with plenty more to go. But I stalled. A car accident (I was rear-ended) took me out and sucked away my motivation for exercise and diet. I've barely maintained for the last four or five months. About the only…

Can't say I agree more! I have this on my fridge.

Yes, it is quite true that the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is not only motivated by health concerns but is also concerned about the treatment of animals. This does not mean that what they have to say about the health benefits of a plant-based diet are false. It may be that less than 5 percent of PCRM's…

Check out the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine at www.pcrm.org. They gather together all the research and information regarding a plant-based diet and why it is the most healthy option. You can subscribe to breaking research bulletins, weekly recipes, regular newsletters, etc. If you are eating plenty of…

Seek professional help: doctor, psychiatrist, mental health center. Don't be afraid of having to go back into hospital for a "tune-up". But if you seek medical intervention early enough you may be able to avoid it. If you are starting to have bad thoughts you may want to look up the phone number for your local crisis line.…

This sounds like a great recipe. How much, in cups, is 100 g of butternut squash? How many does the recipe serve? Thanks.

That's fabulous! Congratulations! I haven't tracked my measurements but I've recently noticed a difference through the abdomen since a year ago. Definitely worth the effort.

I work at teaching goal-setting principles so I suppose mine had better be SMART! 1. Lose an average of two pounds per month (as per doctor's orders) throughout the year. 2. Get my spending under control by creating a comprehensive annual budget divided into monthly installments. 3. Play racquetball two times per week (if…

My New Year's Resolution does not seem, at first glance, to have anything to do with weight loss, fitness, or health. It is: To get my spending under control. If I am successful though, I will be eating out much less often and eating my own healthy cooking more often, indeed, most of the time. Hopefully, this will mean…

Some of my faves are from listening to, others from singing in a church choir: Mary, did you know? Lo, how a rose e'er blooming In the bleak midwinter Christmas Eve/Sarajevo (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) Have a most peaceful and blesséd Christmas everyone!

I`ve met one MFP in real life. We started by PM`ing each other, then exchanged phone numbers, then she invited me to come stay with her for a weekend. I drove for an hour, took a 40 minute ferry ride, and drove another 10 minutes. Well worth the trip. Funny, opinionated, wonderful person! And I had a blast being shown…
