I usually drink 12oz of black coffee to 16oz of water during the day. My totals are usually 36oz of coffee to 64oz of water from 7am to 4pm. I do slow down on coffee in the afternoon and I'm always well hydrated for my evening workout.

I never log anything I actually did during the years I got fat, like walking, cleaning, standing, mowing ect..I only track real cardio activities that I do that will raise my heart rate.

How do you hike 10 miles and only burn 500 calories? I think you left out a digit.

Riding around the block or the park is just like walking slow, it’s not a very good cal. burn. I love to ride or drive my bike to a trail after work or on weekends and RIDE HARD, last night I road 18 miles burned 1200 calories in 70 mins with a 10 – 20 mph wind.

You wear a HR strap and a watch and the manufacturer of the HRM will calculate the calories burned for you. Like someone said earlier, HRM calories burned is just an estimate based on a formula but the HR you see during the working is pretty accurate.

I follow you I just started up on my elliptical again after 4 months off because of summer running and biking. I found out I’m way more elliptical fit than I was four months.

What I’ve learned from my HRM is that the healthier I get the harder or longer I have to workout to burn the same amount of calories I did a few months ago.

My HRM and MFP are pretty close to the same number (650 to 700 an hour) but my elliptical (NordicTrack 990) has a much higher calorie burn (40% higher) plus the elliptical can read my HR. Now I wonder if my elliptical still thinks I weigh 270? lol

I was pretty heavy when I started running and I expected comments so I think it was why I would wear dark glasses and ear buds. Twenty years ago my mother In-law was watching her granddaughter who was 4 or 5 and she was singing a made up song with lyrics like “let it burn, let it burn let it burn” It turns out her home burnt down a few weeks before and that’s what she heard her father saying.
