I went to a gym and met with a fitness trainer to set up my program. I do strength and cardio every day and wake up early enough that I can get to they gym before work. Mondays and Thursdays I work on lower body strength for an hour then do 30 minutes of cardio, Tuesday and Friday I do upper body strength followed by 30…

Thanks for the encouragement. Sometimes it's just so frustrating. I tell myself everyday to embrace a healthy lifestyle and disregard all the things telling me it's a lost cause. I am healthy now and I am small now. To be honest, it's never easy because often the unhealthy food is easier and cheaper to come by. But I am…

I don't drink pop often, but when I do, I try and go diet. The way I see it, aspartame is a very bad thing... and so is the sugar. I was once at a relay for life event where a doctor talked about what they have learned about cancer, and one thing was that many cancers feed on sugar. The way I see it, either substance is…

I just recently started a morning workout routine. I always end up with something planned for the afternoon so getting a workout in after work has been very hard. I wake up an hour earlier than I used to and get to the gym before work. I feel great the whole rest of the day. Since I've only been doing it for about a week…

P90X and Crossfit are both fine workouts IF you know the correct form and IF you don't exert yourself too far beyond your current fitness level. I hear a lot of hate on Crossfit, but while I was there, I had a ton of help. The trainers were always on me about my form. It sounds like that's not the norm, but having them…

My revelation hit once I was maintaining. First, my weight will always fluctuate given the time of day I weigh myself and the amount of water in my body. Maintaining means maintain weight within a range. It's hard to get out of the lose lose lose mode once you hit it, but a weight gain or loss of a few pounds is not big…

I did a 'Paleo Challenge" for 60 days with my gym. The nutritionist who spoke about it said it was based around eating the food with the greatest nutritional value and leaving out food with little value. The only reason it's nicknamed the 'caveman diet' is because you're mostly eating meat, fruits and veggies... or things…

Eat healthy, keep working out, and don't freak out about an extra one or two pounds. The biggest adjustment for me was getting used to seeing my weight range about 5 pounds (depending on the time of day I weighed myself and what I ate) instead of just falling. But it's fine because weight does that.

One summer during college, I weighed myself every single morning. Sometimes at night to. That number determined what I ate for the day. If it was the same or lower, I'd eat normal. If it was even one pound higher, it was salad all day long. Now, this just goes to show you how much I knew about how weight changes. I was not…

My understand of sugar and where it can cause problems is when it triggers an insulin response. Doing that too often is what tends to lead to diabetes. But, if the amount of sugar you eat is not enough to cause an insulin spike, then don't worry. Foods that are low-glycemic, like most berries, are just fine. Some natural…

I know this only applies to recipes that have a link to a webpage, but I always try to find a way to post it to my Pinterest account. That's how I track most recipes I use.

I dealt with the same thing. In my college years, I dropped a good 20 pounds. In high school, I wasn't an athlete. In college, I walked to all my classes and picked up Fencing. I would fence for hours at least twice a week. The first couple years of college, I felt like I dropped a pant size a semester. Anyway, a friend of…

I spoke to my chiropractor, who is also trained in nutrition about sugar. This is what he sent me back. It's from his phone, so it's short. "Has nothing to do with sugar. It's all about insulin. Fruit raises insulin just like refined sugary. Has to so u don't die. Low glycemic fruit is fine cause your insulin doesn't…

Sometimes, I hear that sugar from fruit is good for you and other times I hear that our bodies can't tell the difference between different types of sugar. I just finished a Paleo challenge I did through my gym that was all about eating high nutrient foods and cutting out low nutrient foods. They told us to have no more…

This whole thing kind of amazes me because none of it is like my crossfit gym. They even kept me in Elements (they keep beginners separate from people who know what they're doing) for a long time because I wasn't quite getting the moves down right. Even the, they are always talking about form. After a warm up, everyone,…

And if you live a healthy lifestyle, 90 will see you chilling on a beach somewhere, still enjoying and and maybe chasing your grand-kids around.

I can see that. I'm not a mother, and I can't imagine how my life will change once I have a child. Nonetheless, I will find a way to stay healthy and get some fitness in, even it it's just a half hour jog in the morning. The point is, I've seen way too many of my friends affected by the death of a parent. I've see children…

I agree. People tell me when I have kids, I won't work our so much because I won't have time. I see kids at my CrossFit gym all the time. They sit and do their homework, play video games or, watch their parents live the example of a healthy life. When I have kids, the same will happen. I need to be here for them for as…

I feel this. I started college, joined the fencing club, started walking everywhere and improved my eating habits. Guess what happened? By the time I graduated college I was 25 pounds lighter than I was in high school. Guess what people (not family) back home thought? They asked if I was shoving my finger down my throat.…

How about nutritional excuses like "Keeping track of it all it too much work" or "You can hardly eat anything when you're trying to be healthy" or "You can't avoid chemicals and pollutants. So what it's they're in your food too." The people saying such things rarely take the time to realize how much healthy food there is…

HATE HATE HATE this one too. When I tell people I want to live to 100 (crosses fingers) I get the response that they don't want to be old and in pain for that long. Guess what, if you live a healthy lifestyle, chances are you will see 100 (or just be old) and still be kicking it like you're 70.

I overheard this in my office the other day: "I had a friend who used to workout and use supplements like protein powder. He's stopped working out and now he's huge. That's why I say no to supplements." I didn't say anything, but I wanted to. I wanted to say his friend got fat because he stopped working out and probably…

I tell myself that I don't mind aspartame, but sometimes, if I am craving diet coke or something, I will google aspartame and will be so disgusted by what I find. Usually, I decide that the conclusion aspartame "probably" won't cause cancer is not good enough and ditch the unhealthy drink. But, over consumption of sugar is…

I joined a crossfit in January with no knowledge of how to use a barbel or lift weight. Part of the reason I joined is because I would have people watching over me. My crossfit gym is wonderful. They did NOT teach me a movement in one day and continuously corrected my form until they felt like I had it down. I'm still new…

I recommend going to see a Chiropractor. It may be that the pain is associate with misalignment in the spine and your simply putting extra stress on it lifting weights. I say this because I have a ton of shoulder pain, but mine is caused by issues with my spine. If it's not that, then you may be doing the move wrong, in…

I'm 5'2" and am maintaining at 1520 calories a day. For the record, I didn't get on here to lose a lot of weight. I just wanted to let go of those last few pounds and maintain my weight and healthy lifestyle. I weight 110-115 and am happy being anywhere in that range. I don't really get hungry, but that's because I've used…
