Is it because you feel that people are looking for you to give them advice and you aren't comfortable with giving specific information?

Neither I nor my husband were EVER going to remarry. I had the ex from hell that just wouldn't die so gaining another potentially hell-ish situation was not something that I found to be appealing. My husband had been married 5 times previous to meeting me so he was all about having fun without limitations. <--- this…

I hear ya. LOL But the real benefit of increased mass (in addition to perhaps slightly higher BMR) is the fact that more mass = more strength = ability to move more heavier stuff = burning more calories than those who only possess the strength to lift the TV remote (as another already pointed out). :glasses:

Was there drama on this thread? Apparently I missed it... or ignored it. Whichever floats a body's boat. :flowerforyou:

If only more people would "get this". And to those who feel that making it your business to make healthier food choices and "making time" to move around with any sort of effort = "what kinda life is that"? ...Y'all have my condolences. There is absolutely NOTHING that I or anyone else "who gets it" could ever say. Your…

A once weekly cheat will do you a world of good. It will rev your metabolism and give you the ability to satisfy your cravings, regardless of what those cravings may be.

*Thunderous Applause* Your progress (as the post that began this thread) is very inspirational to us all. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND NEVER FORGET THAT SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE!

All calories are also not created equal. A big bag of chips does not equal a tunafish sandwich on whole wheat with lettuce and tomato even though they may have the same amount of calories. I am still mystified that so many people fail to comprehend this.

Do you have hormonal issues that preclude you from building lean mass? Or is this due to physical injury/joint issues?
-
If I understand you correctly, you are saying that a woman my height and weight with 15# less lean body mass (I am saying I have 15# more muscle) wouldn't burn far less calories when they sleep (or just go about the business of life)? Are you also saying that her physical activity isn't far less intense (thus burning even…

Are you serious? :noway: I'm truly stunned at this answer. In what way does it "cost more" to maintain lean mass? (Please don't even TRY to give me that bogus argument that it costs more to eat healthy. And you can work out in outside or in your home FOR FREE just as I did for a few months between gym memberships. Didn't…

You have a very dry sense of humor, I see.

I'm confused what you mean by this site not offering a meal planner. I find this site to be invaluable for planning what I eat througout the day both regarding macro breakdowns as well as nutritional content of foods. I make my decisions regarding what I will eat next based on the breakdowns the site offers. What more…

^^ This is me and my husband as well. Some months it's a bit more, if we go out to eat drink (alcohol) max add another 100 - 200$.

GREAT RESPONSES! Does my heart good to see that there are still those who "get it". 'Course some of us had to learn this stuff the hard way. *raises hand* @Wobbspsfl, you may just have to make a small adjustment. How long have you been doing your current cardio routine? If it's been several weeks you may just have to take…

The more lean mass you have, the more calories you burn. So the objective should ALWAYS be to build lean mass. If I only had 20 minutes I would either do cross-fit style training or aquatics. Both are excellent ways to build lean mass while getting an AWESOME cardiovascular workout.

I understand how frustrating it is to wait for that baby-weight to come off. (Did it 4 times myself.) But it's so much more than just excess weight. Your entire bod has gone through a tremendous change both while carrying the baby and then again, after giving birth. IMHO women push themselves too hard to get back to…

OK I don't believe in ANY diet. I believe in sound meal plans. I also believe in allowing cheat days (about every 7 days or so and I really don't care how anyone wants to label them, it means that you indulge in eat/drink that you don't normally do) so as to stave off feeling deprived and to boost your metabolism. I don't…

You'll eat popcorn but you won't eat brown rice or oatmeal? I don't understand this. Do you eat yams? Also do you judge your success based strictly on the number on the scale or do you also use other means to assess progress? And finally, how did you change the settings on your food diary to say "first meal" etc as opposed…

I will tell you what I used to tell my clients when I was a fitness professional, "My body remains unchanged regardless of what you do." ^^ This statement wasn't designed to make anyone feel bad. I was merely driving the point home that I am not judging them. The choices I make affect ONLY ME. The flip side of this coin is…

Oh it will work. You will lose a considerable amount of lean mass (which is what burns most of the calories you consume and far outweighs and takes up less space than the fat you will NOT be losing) thus slowing your metabolism. So when you go back to eating like a normal human being (because NO ONE can exist on a…

I DO KNOW WHAT MAKES METABOLISM SLOW.... FOR EVERYONE.. One last time. HORMONES DO NOT BURN CALORIES - LEAN MASS DOES. HORMONE LEVELS DECREASE THUS AFFECTING THE ABILITY FOR ONE TO ATTAIN/MAINTAIN LEAN MASS = LESS MASS = LOWER METABOLIC RATE. Conversely, with all things being equal age being the only difference, BMR (Basal…

Genetics play a role, yes but your rolls are not genetics. I am 5'3 and in the avatar you see I weighed about 110 lbs or so. (IMHO that was too skinny.) I have NEVER had a small waist. What is more important that mere waist size is the question, are you in proportion? In the avatar you see my measurements were 34C" - 24…

/facepalm... Did I not already explain in a very simple manner what role hormones play regarding metabolism?

I understand how you feel 100%. I just had to sign DNR and DNH orders for my father. He is morbidly obese and is dying as a result. He did it to himself - period. Until someone has had to watch their parents/grandparents die this way and then be faced with the decision to have them be allowed to "die naturally" because…

Now that makes sense... NOT. Hormones do not burn calories. Declining hormone levels (which is a natural part of aging for both sexes) cause a decreasing ability for men and women to build and maintain lean muscle mass. So, naturally, unless both men and women do something (exercise, eat intelligently and take HRT) to…

You are DEFINITELY on the right track! May I ask if you are keeping track of your changing body via the tape measure and pictures? These are far more effective tools for tracking progress (in addition to the training journal to see your strength progress) than the scale or JUST the scale. May I make a suggestion? (I know…
