Quick run down: BMI = Body Mass Index; Its a formula that takes your height and weight and turns it to one number. Its pretty much the universal method for telling you if you're normal, overweight, obese, etc. It does have erroneous results if you're extremely muscular though because the excess muscle weight will…

Stretch after exercising, drink plenty of water. Pay attention to your stride and posture when running, you may be slightly leaning or dipping causing you to apply abnormal stress to that area.

Without all the science jabber, Trigylcerides (the storage form of fat in adipose tissue) is burned producing energy and most of it results in CO2 and water production and the rest is recycled in the body for other uses.

Try not to take anything... ever. Most of the targeted supplements have "proprietary blends" that allow them to mask ingredients that they use. They only have to list certain ingredients as required by the FDA but since its listed as an herbal supplement, they don't have to have the research proof that supports their…

I experienced it the first two weeks of february. A little history. I did WW starting in November and lost ~8 lbs by New years. I wasn't that committed, but had made some small changes that were adding up such as cutting fast food, getting portion sizes down, eating 6 small meals (more like 3 meals with snacks in-between),…

I am in medical school. We have to know illnesses inside and out. Even though we have a saying "think horses when you see hoove prints, not Zebras" the knowlege still makes your mind wonder from time to time and invoke some serious hypochodriasis.

If you have colitis, you should get in much much sooner. Look around for another gastroenterologist and get in asap.

Comming from a Husband who though young, sat in a situation similar to yours: My wife would just constantly bug me and harass me about my eating habits, lack of exercise, lethargy, etc. Its negative reinforcement. Definition of that would be a negative stimulus is applied until a desired result is given then it is removed.…

Doing ripped in 30 over 8 weeks instead of 4 since I'm doing a C25K hybrid with it. I did the 30DS for the full month of January prior to this. I am on my 2nd week of Level 2 (my weeks start/end on Wednesday due to Feb 1st being a Wed.) Its a different animal than 30DS though they share some techniques. Having great…

keep trigger foods out of the house, or at least out of sight/reach. Where you would normally store said foods, replace it with a healthy snack item. When you impulsively go for said food, you have to eat the healthy snack item. The other part is to understand binging. Its a type of emotional eating. Just as with any other…

I did 30DS non stop in January and started with 3lb weights and stepped up to 5, 7, and finally 10lb weights by the end. I used a blanket for a mat since I was working out on hard carpet that had no cushion. I am now doing a ripped in 30/c25k hybrid. I started that beginning of february and am starting w4d1 of c25k…

If you live for vanity and that which comes with it, you will be one of the herd who fights aging tooth and nail only for disappointment. Live for health and satisfaction of life. Know that by living a healthier lifestyle you will have many more years of life to share with those important to you. That, in my opinion,…

Look into prescription chantix to help. It has some odd side effects but overall is very successful in those with an intent to stop. Most people I know just snap one day and quit cold turkey. Cravings are bad, but once you get over the hump its manageable.

To curve your satiety, aim for high fiber fruits and vegetables mixed with sources of healthy fat and proteins such as nuts, Greek yogurt, hummus, etc. Fat is the biggest decider of satiety with fiber shortly behind. Carb rich snacks will drive a huge release of insulin leaving you only hungrier.

Depends on your discipline and plan. Ideally with the strictest of control with strict macronutrient regulation and regular exercise, I would say 2-4 months. In a realistic world, probably 6 months.

If you're on any kind of antidepressant or anti anxiety medications, you should not take this. It has ingredients contraindicated with almost any prescription medication that is in those categories. It even says so on the label of oxy elite.

Oh no, we have pharmaceutics class and a biochemistry class. Biochemistry had a huge unit on nutrition and metabolism. We also have a class called health promotion and disease prevention which focuses on preventive measures for many health disorders. The last unit of this class is an additional nutrition unit over the…

Be smart and use smart ingredients. If it calls for whole milk, use skim. If it calls for processed pasta, use whole wheat, etc. Just smart substitutions will go a long way. second, google recipes. You will notice an option on the left to search recipes after starting a search. You can specify ingredients, calories per…

Thats a lot of claims for that... After a quick pubmed look-up, the results are there. A little background though. Fructose is responsible for a lot of the fat problems in the american diet, whether it come from sucrose (table & cane sugar) or high fructose corn syrup. All HFCS did is drive the price of sugar down so low…

Nothing wrong with fat in the idea of it being apart of a diet, but it should be mono or polyunsaturated fats from fish meats, etc. Only down side to using cream or half & half is in my opinion its excess liquid calories which I would rather add an orange or apple to my breakfast as the fiber helps with satiety. I am a…

Im in week 2 of RI30. I am doing a C25K/RI30 hybrid which means each week of RI30 takes two physical weeks. MWF C25K, TThSat RI30, Sunday rest and measure day. I did the 30DS in January with no breaks. The level 1 of RI30 was very similar to 30DS and I breezed though it without much struggle Level 2 has been a beast...…

I am a medical student too. What year are you? Protein shakes come in handy, just pre fill a bottle with powder and mix it with water when you get hungry. Other than surgery rotation, I've found time to eat a meal I've packed and haven't had to eat the hospital food. Working out isn't too bad. You don't have to study near…

I have high cholesterol that runs in the family... My highest total was >250... not good for being under 21 at the time. I found cutting red meats (not entirely, but limit to a good steak once a month or so) and adding fish oil helped a lot. Given my age, doc didn't want to do any statin drugs or anything but the combo of…

Glucagon is a hormone that among many things drives the liver to breakdown its glycogen stores into glucose and release it into the blood. Excess glucagon is typically present in most diabetics (its the target of such drugs as glipizide) and drives excess production of glucose in the fasting state.
