You could try adding electrolytes to your some of your water in warmer weather. I usually have some early afternoon. Cheers, h.

Warm weather water weight happens to me. At home I put it on during the day, just enough to puff up my hands and feet a bit, and usually drop it when it cools in the evening. Travelling in warmer climes, I carry the extra weight until I return to my normal northern temps. I carry clothes a size bigger when doing warm…

As well as sleep hygiene look at.... How fast are you trying to lose. Is your deficit too large. Are you eating back an adequate amount of your exercise calories. If you have just started/started back are you overdoing it. Yes you can overdo it even walking. Try every other day until you build up your stamina, alternating…

It depends which country I’m in. In the UK all my family and friends think I’m a fast eater and am usually 2nd to finish a meal (BiL is a true vacuum). As a child I was the biggest eater in my family so used to wolf my food down so I could scoop up my mum, dad, and sisters’ leftovers before they got cold. (We are talking…

Oh @tpacheco311, I really feel for you. It is so hard when we can see a loved one needs help, but it is nigh on impossible to give any, or direct him to any. Unfortunately, it really is down to him and his wife- all you can do is plant some subtle seeds and hope they take root. This may not be immediate, but one day down…

Another small thing to look at is foot placement and knee tracking. When I was first starting most instruction had the toes turned out to some degree with toes tracking over. That gave me knee pain. Once I adjusted to feet straight out and knees tracking all was well. I walk with my feet straight out and knees forward so…

Have a look at Hasfit on YouTube. They have a good assortment of routines that should help with core (front and back) strength. Simple, short, and effective routines. They have been my go to guys since I started working out after a very sedentary life 10+ years ago. Of course, if this is more than just being sedentary for…

The USN and my scale come out very similar, 19.?. In real life I know I am closer to 22-23, carry all my fat between my ribs and pelvis, but like you say, they are a reasonable indicator. Right now, I’ve not been lifting during covid and can visibly see the body change, flaccid, and my scale is showing 20.? Instead of my…

Ooh @sijomial the latter half of your post hit on some of the things I was just going to post on- looking at past interests and social life especially. Just from my observations, I am of that age group that friends and family are retiring/have retired like crazy. What I have observed in general is that my male friends have…

Oh, as a PS but that, above, post was too long anyway. My BiL early retired at 55. His 1st year he was lost and didn’t know what to do with himself. He ended up taking up cycling country trails. He built up a whole new bunch of friends that met up weekly for coffee. Some of them also worked on a community garden, he got…

Me and my SO lost in our 50’s. Me first, 30lbs, and after watching me do it he followed as I hit maintenance. He also upped his activity, A shuffling run, as he puts it, and swimming. With regards to the running. Why not sign you both up for a 5 or 10km charity race. That is what we did - he runs, I walked (I don’t run).…

My SO has borderline sleep apnea. Meaning he didn’t need a cpap machine, but was advised to lose weight. The weight loss worked for him, he is tested annually, until his COVID weight gain. He has started losing again and has bought a couple of T-shirts with pockets in the centre back to place a ball, this keeps him off his…

Oops, had to read the thread because people who are data nerds are exotic. B) Obviously not one myself. The only thing I do on @PAV8888’s list is post, and that right now is an occasional thing. Still highly successful at maintaining since 2009 though. Heck I just ran off to weigh myself and mid afternoon I was only 1lbs…

I’m 5’1 and lost on 1200 plus 200-300 cals per hr exercise. (I’m older so probably a lower BMR than yours) That, at 130lbs, gave me a 3/4 lbs loss per week for about 5 weeks. After that it was a slow decline to less than 1/2lbs a month until I reached ~105lbs. Oh, it took a year to lose that 25-30lbs. Best advice I could…

As well as getting walking shoes that fit the purpose, and your walk, get 2 pair and rotate them daily. Make sure you air the ‘off’ pair out well and maybe use an antifungal in them. Your shoes will last longer and your feet will be healthier. Cheers, h.

I agree with @DancingMoosie, Hasfit is great for beginners, it is what I used when I first started in my 50’s. The beginners bodyweight one is good for starting as it is less stress on the body, heck when I started I could only do 1set. I worked up to the 3 then found more challenging workouts. (I still use that basic when…

Depends what always on the road consists of. My SO leaves home at 5am on Tuesday and returns at 7pm Thursday. Breakfasts are usually at a hotel. Boiled egg, yoghurt, granola and fruit. (If on the road similar, he travels with boiled eggs!) Lunch, he carries in his truck but has access to a microwave most days so it could…

Do you have good ventilation in your studio? If not work with an open window and if you are an artist working primarily in oils look at investing in a separate from the rest of the house ventilation system. Oils and their thinners can play havoc with your health if you breath them continuously short or long term.…

Thanks for that @TakeTheLongWayHome. Just what I needed on a rainy day. Cheers, h.

A couple of thoughts from an older woman that maintains at 100-105 and is 5’1, so similar numbers to what you are looking for. Be as accurate as possible with your logging (had to say that even though I am sure you are) it did take me months to drop those last few lbs. I just cruised along not worrying knowing it would…

A basic pastry, I don’t know Pukka Pies, is half fat to flour with a dash of water or vinegar and salt. Weigh your pastry that you are not eating. 1/3 of that number of grams will be fat so multiply by 9. 2/3 of that number of grams will be basic white flour so multiply by 4. This will give you the calories. Once the fat…

Incentive, not reward, is what I work on. I know a long and healthy life is the goal, but short term goals help me with the long term. I lost weight when I was an inactive 54ye old. Since then I have taken up travelling the world. I have seen so many people my age seeing the world through a coach window. I don’t want to be…

In the list have a look at the AllPro programme. It is a 3x8-12 programme that may be a good transition from the 5x5. Cheers, h.

No idea what Canada or the UK’s stand on this would be so I’m just giving a personal reaction. I’m not in favour of any handout at the vaccination site that isn’t connected to COVID prevention and a true charitable (non advertising) or government hand out. (ie: a choise of advised pain killer (2pk) for after effects that…

Mmm are we talking liquorice root or black liquorice? The former I haven’t had in decades but used to enjoy, the latter I’ve never really liked unless it was a carrier for kalie. (There’s something for the ‘foreign food’ thread.) Cheers, h.

Just think, those cucumber tea bags would work wonders for refreshing your eyes. A 2 for 1 deal. Cheers, h.

Hi @elphie754 nice to see you. How is the baby and family? Can’t imagin the age now. Have a look at Smart For Life bars available at Costco or on line (that is for Canada they may be available in stores in the USA) . They are GF and I can’t see wheat or oats on the ingredient list, don’t know about mfg site. They are not…

Try it, it may be effective it may not but you will never know until you try. (I am someone who enjoys a drink, almost daily, but am not alcohol dependent so probably don’t read the post the same as someone who may be/is. I also know what it is like to try and fit a drink into a deficit (and a pretty low maintenance)…

You may find this thread enlightening. Unfortunately, or maybe just an indication of success, the @VUA21 no longer posts on MFP. Cheers, h. ⚠️ WARNING IT IS GRAPHIC ⚠️ https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10687999/tummy-surgery-after-180-pound-weight-loss-warning-some-graphic-pics/p1

Agree with you @GummiMundi. Too short a study to get anything worth acting on. (I only skimmed it) The higher protein goal was lower than mine as an older woman who lifts.(0.8-1g/lbs) And there was nothing said about protein timing for better uptake as one ages. Cheers, h.
