Thanks for sharing. Definitely an inspiring story that shows your great work and attitude.

Thanks KnitoMiss! I'm trying to concentrate on eating as little processed food as possible...and not worrying about fats (or the good fats) - concerned that I'm eating too much protein. Working to find the right balance and the MFP comments help a great deal to make sense of this. - - [quote=So when you drop carbs, you…

There's sugar (which I agree is a no-no) and there's the hidden sugars that are in processed foods that seem to be the cause of the obesity epidemic and the increasing numbers of those with metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes. I'm doing my best to try to keep my sugar intake as low as possible by only…

Are you by any chance taking medication (statins) for high cholesterol? I've gone through about 3 different prescriptions until my doctor was able to get me one that has reduced the leg cramps. I drink a lot of water which I think is one thing that helps - my husband doesn't and he sometimes wakes up with terrible…

feel free to add me! I'm still on the medication for insulin resistance and want to get off of it by watching carbs. Haven't been successful in the past, but that has to change. My diary is open to friends.

I'm soon to be 66, but have been going to the gym 2-3 mornings a week before work. I have a trainer who is experienced in "older" women, and who is aware of my bad knees and desire to strengthen the muscles around them and to build up my stamina. I have a sedentary job and forget to stand up periodically...I would like to…

If I didn't know you were married to your lovely wife, and if I wasn't married to my wonderful husband, and if I also wasn't probably 40 years older than you, I'd say let's get together!!! LOL You're an inspiring guy and I want to keep reminding myself of your wise counsel. Thank you for your post.

Quoted from your post: I no longer focus on the calories or carbs, but because of my research I did early in the process, I do know what foods are high in certain things, and I eat them in moderation or not at all. I also started doing fun activities, ..., it is about having fun being active. I enjoy life and I weigh…

Interesting post & replies...I rarely drink, but if I do it is with dinner but no more than once a month and one glass. Yet on Sunday night I had 2 glasses of wine over an episode of Downton Abbey ...have noticed fatigue and sleeping difficulties since then and I've been way over calories (and self-control) on Monday &…

what kind of carbs? If you're doing complex carbohydrates that should help curb your appetite.

You're doing great! I can see the difference...hope that even if you can't "see" it yourself, that you, more importantly, FEEL the difference. Yea!!!

Beyond fantastic! Thanks for the inspiration and for being such a positive example of what one person can do to make themselves healthy again!

This is such an important post - well written and right on target. Every individual is different in how they metabolize food and in the ways that food becomes a trigger to increased weight gain. I am insulin resistant and am saving a copy of this post to refer to when I next see my doctor. The MFP is great for tracking…

Progresso light soups (or better yet, homemade soups) are great...hooray for the office microwave! Today I had a homemade soup with beans, kale and peas and 3 ounces of leftover chicken from last evening. It has lasted until 3:30pm and now I'm snacking on yogurt and a piece of fruit. the 3:30-4:30pm hour is a killer for me.

what about using brown rice instead of white rice? Or what about using a grain like barley?

You're my first "success" story of the day...thanks so much for the inspiration.

Wow - I was just in the process of beating myself up for being so glacially slow in losing weight, exercising regularly, and posting the food amounts when I found your Before/After post. What an inspiration! Thanks for showing and proving that slow and steady wins. I am moved by your progress and positive spirit.

what's the rush? Slow, steady and permanent is the way to go. Take a look at some of the blogs for fascinating "how to's" - each person has a different way, but I am learning a lot from them as to how to incorporate the MFP tools re: the type of foods and amounts that I am eating, plus the impact of exercise.
-
Welcome again to MFP. I'm taking the slow and steady route this time and find that MFP helps me have better control over portion sizes which has always been my downfall. I don't have your back and hip problems, but exercise is another thing that is very hard for me to fit in to my schedule...but your having 3 boys to care…

no worries - another time, I'm also going to be away from the 25th-27th for my mom's birthday in SC.

That is just awesome...you lost a person but gained your self.

I won't know until Thursday about Saturday afternoon...is that too late? Where does your friend Karen live? I actually live in the west part of Alexandria near Seminary/Beauregard - near the Hilton Mark Center.

I'm 63 (at least for another 7 weeks) with a minimum of 50 pounds that needs to be erased. I'm gradually getting back into exercise (walking is best for me - the knees let me know when I've done too much.) My goal is NOT to diet, but to take off the weight gradually so it will stay off. MFP is helping me get a grip on what…

You are inspiring...slow, steady and sure you are reaching your goal. I like it that you are viewing the experience as a life-style change and not a diet. Thanks for sharing your story.

Yum...sounds great. Do you have any idea how many servings the recipe makes and the caloric content of each serving? Thanks, g

The whole grains add fiber and seem to satisfy me more, along with the vegetables, plus 1-2 fruits a day - are you sure that eliminating whole grains at this phase is the correct thing to do for long term dietary changes?
-
All the best to you in your quest...little steps each day will add up to a lot and you have a very important event to look forward to in April...even a slow loss of a pound a week will help you shed at least 15 pounds...isn't that a dress size???

I saw 200 lbs on the scale today....The decision to change my body and my life are real, but why are my actions working so hard against me? How can I stop being my own worst enemy?... I am a 25 year old mother of a beautiful 5 year old boy- don't I owe it to him to be healthy? Don't I owe it to both of us to be happy?…

Thanks for your response re: protein & fats - I looked back over the past week's record and see that my recommended daily fat is 40g - I've been keeping it in the range of 17-33 with only one day at 41...I also upped my fiber allowance to 30g/day.
