One of the fortunate things about being on this site, is that it is sort of a social/nutrition experiment being played out every day. I pay close attention to trends of different people with different lifestyles, etc. One thing I have noticed, is that people who seem to have a naturally higher metabolism, and can maintain…

This just shows how different people can be with their dietary needs. Some people can eat 5000 cals a day and still be hungry. Some people only eat 1200 a day and are fine with that. It is all relevant to the individual situation. One thing I HAVE noticed over the past 2 yrs on here, is that the vast majority of people who…

Surprised how so many 2 year old threads keep getting resurrected lately. The OP is long gone. Would have been nice to have seen that she figured out how to succeed in her goal, but perhaps she DID succeed in eating more, and that is why she is no longer actively posting. So great job on the advice to eat more calorie…

Would be nice if they could block any accounts posting from his IP address. I notice that they seem to start posting late in the evenings, when perhaps there are not as many mods watching. I agree, they are extremely annoying.

Well this explains the regain.

Yes, I agree with the others. When you have 120 lbs to lose, you can easily lose 3 lbs or more a week, simply by cutting down your calories a bit. As you get smaller, your calorie level to maintain your weight gets smaller, and you will have a smaller deficit which makes your weight loss slow down to a more moderate pace.…

"Feelings Follow Actions" If you wait until you FEEL like doing something, you will never start. Just do it, and keep on doing it, until you realize that you can't NOT do it.

Question- Are you really 18? Think of it this way- A 16 oz glass of water weighs approximately 1 lb. If you drink that water, then step on the scale, the scale will be 1 lb heavier. An hour later you go pee and step on the scale again- now that lb is gone. Did you gain and lose a lb of fat? NO, you just borrowed a lb of…

We as parents, have the responsibility of making decisions for our kids until they are old enough to make them for themselves. Just because they are bombarded with advertising for certain things, doesn't mean we can't teach them how to make good decisions for themselves and their health. There are numerous health-conscious…

My body does this all the time. It seems like I lose scale weight for awhile, without much noticeable difference, then the scale will stop moving, but my body starts shrinking! It is kinda weird, but that is when the fun of shopping for smaller clothes comes in!

According to your profile and post on your other thread, you have depression, take meds for that, and are new to veganism. All of these things can be problematic, and when you add your sedentary lifestyle to it, it only gets worse. If you are new to veganism, you may not be getting in enough iron and essential proteins and…

Just to clarify- the rider who died was the stronger rider who knew the trail well, and was actually in the lead, and road too far ahead of his friend, who was riding the trail for the first time. So in this case, the friend was in no way at fault. Apparently the lead rider went over the edge, and the others rode past him,…

The OP shows to have lost 13 pounds since her first post back in October. I am curious too, what advice given has helped her succeed.

In the 2 years I have been on this site, I have known numerous people who have succeeded on 1200, and have not regained their weight, nor had any serious complications due to that calorie level. For some it is appropriate. There have also been numerous 'Success Stories' from these people on the forums. The problem is, if…

Great job on the weight loss. :drinker: Glad that you found a formula that worked for you. That said, you are a 33 yo male, who is probably around 6ft? and is very active. I will assume that your recommended plan is intended for those that are around your stats? I mean, surely you wouldn't think that a 60 yo, 5' tall…

Just because you quit on 1200, doesn't mean that everyone who tries it will quit. There are numerous people on here who did quite well on 1200 and didn't starve, quit, gain all their weight back, lose their hair and nails and muscles, etc. Like she said, she didn't ask opinions about her cal limit, just wanted some…

My go-to low carb snacks are Cocoa roasted almonds. (Not chocolate covered. These are cocoa-dusted, no sugar added) Aldis turkey sausage snack sticks Turkey Jerkey and pork rinds. They are a great substitute for other chips, and have zero carbs. full fat string cheese. Atkins has a few bars that I like. I enjoy the ones…

Other than the high fruit intake for this morning's breakfast, your diary looks pretty good. Good job on keeping carbs in line and getting in enough protein. To up your calories, I would suggest losing the low fat foods. Don't be afraid of healthy fats. You will need the extra fat to replace the carbs you are losing.…

You will need to spread your carbs out thru the day, so you don't have a lot all at once. I believe the generally rule is no more than 30g per meal. Also, have protein with the carbs, to help slow breakdown of sugar. High fiber carbs are better as well, for slowing down the insulin spike. Check out the low carb groups on…

I was curious about SRL, so I googled his height/weight and it actually showed that he was 10 pounds lighter, only weighed 137. I was shocked to find that is a BMI of 19.7. Perfectly healthy weight range. I guess I am just so used to seeing men much heavier than that at that height. Very eye-opening. Sorry to jump on the…

Awww. I had the cutest mental picture of a man swinging around his wife. I would love it if I could get to the weight where I would be comfortable with my hubby swinging me around. Or picking me up! I mean, I know he could pick me up if he needed to, but it wouldn't look very cute.:noway:

Here is a brochure that has a lot of good info in it. http://www.ccfa.org/assets/pdfs/flares_brochure_final.pdf And this article has a low-residue diet listed. http://www.webmd.com/ibd-crohns-disease/low-residue-diet-foods You may be able to eat gluten free breads and pastas. They often have even more calories than the…

My husband has Ulcerative Colitis, but has been in remission for about 10 years. At first, he lost a lot of weight, and couldn't eat any fiberous food. His main cause of flareups are stress related. He took Asacol for years, but they quit making it and switched him to a different med that is supposed to be the same. He can…

Lakilucid- What does your normal eating look like? I do believe that people have different metabolisms and respond differently to foods. Carbs and sugar put weight on me faster than anything, yet my ex lived on beer and sugar, and was very underweight when we met. After 6 months of me cooking full meals, with lots of…

I have found that restricting, or eliminating as much processed sugars and grains as I can from my diet, helps tremendously with pain. Those foods can be inflammatory for some people, and reducing the inflammation by cutting them out, reduces the pain level. As for Soylent- I have no idea what that is, but my first thought…

It is great that with your stats, you are able to lose on 1550 a day. Please realize that your experience is not automatically like another one with your same stats. You are an outlier. I don't know what your activity level is, but I would imagine that you are quite active to be pulling this off. Please do not assume that…

Kynsie- I had an ulcer and GERD from a hiatal hernia. Are you on prilosec or Nexium for it? Altho I had to be careful not to overeat on fried foods, or spicy foods, I had no problem gaining weight. It sounds like you have a mental block about eating enough to gain weight. You say you want to gain, but have a long list of…

How tall are you? You might be at an ok weight for now and just need to work on body composition now instead of a number on the scale. If you DO have fat you still need to lose, try changing up your diet. Increase protein and lower carbs a bit. Many of us ladies find we need fewer carbs as we age and our hormones change.…
