Sweet potatoes, along with coconut and avocado, seem to be a favorite among us cavemen and women. So to answer your question: yes, sweet potatoes are definitely paleo. Cashews are not usually considered paleo since they are a legume (like a bean) and not a nut or seed. The oil used to process them only makes them all the…

Welcome. Good luck on the deadline. I have one for June 30th - the first of three Spartan races this year. I'd like to get to 10% bodyfat by then. I do not appear to be on track to make it, but that's alright. I'm going to crush the thing anyway.

I read quite a bit. Yes books, but mostly essays and articles. Particularly on economics and, to a much lesser degree, political philosophy. I play the occasional video game, watch a handful of TV shows and a movie here and there. So yeah. In short, I'm a real party animal. ;)

Welcome. My diary is wide open to everyone. I've been Paleo/Primal since June 2010. I log daily but my meals are rather simple and unimaginative. I don't really go out of my way to try new recipes or anything. But you're welcome to look at it anyway.

I couldn't begin to speculate on what your nominal values should be. I'm simply not educated enough to know. I can say that my macro-ratio is set currently set to 10% carb, 30% protein, and 60% fat. I have no idea if this is correct for me or anyone else but I'm going with it for a while. You'll probably be naturally…

There was a thread about just this sort of thing not too long ago: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/916525-road-food Two things I'd probably take, that I don't think were mentioned in that previous thread, would be Larabars and pork rinds. Also, I suppose a jar of almond butter is pretty transportable and you can…

How long have you eaten Paleo? Since June 2010 What's your favorite Paleo Approved Meal? Steak and eggs, side of bacon. What's your favorite Paleo Approved Snack? Almond butter. Dark chocolate and Larabars get honorable mention. What's the biggest/best change you have seen in yourself by being Paleo? 140lbs lost (so far,…

I'm with ya'. Crispy bacon is garbage (well, as much "garbage" as bacon can be). I don't know the difference in caloric content of crispy vs not-crispy bacon. I just go by what's on the nutrition facts label regardless of how I cook it.

Ugh. $14.95, though. That is obscenely priced. You get 3 16oz bottles for $12+shipping direct from Guys. http://www.guysbbq.com/catalog/16

My supplement list is embarrassingly large. I only do it mostly to just self experiment and see if I can see any differences. So far, the only supplement I will continue to use indefinitely, based on results, is Calcium/Magnesium. I'll probably continue taking vitamin C and D3/K2 also because it's cheap enough and you…

Tastes good, 100% paleo, pricey: http://www.cavemanbob.com/ Tastes good, 92% paleo, cheaper: http://www.guysbbq.com/catalog/6 I bought a gallon of the Guys BBQ sauce for $13 + $20 Shipping. You can get (at least) two gallons for just about the same shipping, though so it starts becoming real cheap the more you get. Caveman…

It's not the most paleo-friendly almond butter out there (It has "evaporated cane juice" in it, but I'm sure it's not a a lot. The listed sugar content isn't much worse than almond butters without it.), but I'll be damned if it ain't the tastiest I've tried. Maybe it's just me thought. I'd hate to artificially inflate your…

If Barney Butter ever goes out of business, I may have trouble finding a reason to continue living. Seriously, I like their almond butter so much that I can't even buy it because I WILL eat the whole f'n jar immediately. What keeps me going is the idea that maybe, just maybe, someday I'll hit my fitness goals and I can…

Paleo folks are quite enamored with coconut (oil) for adding some fat around the margins. I don't use coconut oil on account of cost and availability, so I use olive oil more often. Aside from adding such oils and just utilizing foods that are high in fat, such as another paleo-favorite, avocados. Then of course, you have…

Looking at only a few days, it seems you're down in the sort of, "paleo weight loss range" of 100g/day or less, for carbohydrates which is good. The problem (or really, A problem) is that you have not made up the macro-nutrient deficit with fat or protein. Simply put, your body gets energy from one of those three macros.…

It's good to see this thread hasn't turned into an "automatically-blame-the-pharmaceutical-companies" thread. Do those people lie for profit? Yes. So do most organizations. One must expect that. In light of this obvious fact, only a moron would trust what ANY individual or organization would say without performing their…

I guess I'd say that if you're craving something other than paleo foods, you may not be "hungry" at all. Rather, you're just craving tasty treats. It's also possible that you are actually hungry, in which case: Eat something paleo. Part of this whole thing, is eating (cleanly) when you're hungry irrespective of…

Monday and Thursday, I have been doing the following: 10-12 Narrow-grip pull-ups 12-15 Dips 12-15 Neutral-grip, elevated, push-ups 20 Bicep curls (Total Gym) 25 Back-flys (Total Gym) 5-7 Narrow-grip pull-ups 10-12 Dips 12-15 Neutral-grip, elevated, push-ups 25 "Seated" Bicep Curls (Total Gym) 25 Chest-flys (Total Gym) 5-7…

Black, no sugar... Then again I drank it like that even before I was started eating paleo. Occasionally, I'd use cream but only to cool it down so I could drink it faster. A lot of folks like butter, coconut oil or other paleo-friendly fat in their coffee. It's way too much work, what with the blending and such, for me to…

Welcome. I'm not good enough at cooking to warrant theft of my meals/"recipes" but my log is open so feel free to look around if you want anyway. Side note: Be careful with that almond butter. It'll get ya'. I can't keep it in the house unless I want to eat the whole damn jar in one sitting.

Fathead is good. I also watched one called "The Perfect Human Diet" which I thought was pretty good.

I like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Good-Seasons-Dressing-0-65-Ounce-Packets/dp/B000RL53PE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363888237&sr=8-1&keywords=good+seasons+cheese+garlic+dressing All the Good Seasons dressings taste pretty good. Strictly speaking, though, it's not entirely primal/paleo as evidenced by the ingredients…

I have no idea about salt and cold extremities but I know two other things: 1. Salt is delicious. 2. I eat large amounts of it. Ha! Sorry... not very helpful.

We actually know, unequivocally, that hunter-gatherers ate plenty of meat... How? Because they still do. Look up the San Bushmen and Inuit tribes.

Welcome to the group. Here's my input: 1. I'd say nuts and fruit will probably be the go-to "snack" item for kids (then again, I don't have any, so I may not be the best to ask). I'm also a sucker for Lärabars but they get a little pricey. I know folks have recipes for making their own if you look around on Google. You get…

Coconut flour can be used instead of almond flour, though I'm not certain if it would be a 1:1 replacement, volume wise. I don't bake enough to know. Instead of Almonds for "almond crusted things", I suppose other nuts would work but I'm not actually sure what you mean by "almond crusted things". Out of curiosity, why do…

Nice work! I can't speak for others but when it comes to fasting, I'd tend to just stick with water. Not that juicing wouldn't work too, I just don't like juice enough to go through the trouble. As far as input on drinking juice whilst eating paleo: I tend to to think juice as not very paleo. The food it comes from maybe…

Lindt 90% is my preferred, only because it's the highest cocoa percentage I can find that is not 100%. I've found others that are higher than 90%, but they cost absurd amounts of money and so I won't buy 'em. I like Green & Black 85% the most, flavor-wise. Along with a Cabernet or Malbec, of course.

Go to the "My Home" tab then "Goals". You can mess with macros in there.

I used to drink two or three or four Pepsi's a day. I first cut back on that amount, then completely replaced it with Snapple. I then quit that completely and just started drinking water. Water, the occasional bourbon on the rocks, and even-more-occasional beer, are the only things I ever drink now. Now, I get kind of…
