This reminded me of a nice article from Runner's World that talked about common running injuries, prevention, and ways to rehab if you "run" into them (pun intended): http://www.runnersworld.com/health/big-7-body-breakdowns?page=single

A little background on fish oils... from what I've read, there is a lot of variety in the "quality" and therefore pricing of of fish oil supplements. Couple things to consider: 1) Where is the fish oil coming from (fish from a farm - potential for more mercury, or from open water)? 2) Type of fish used (achovies, sardines,…

Now just need to find a place for that occasional IPA or glass of wine... ;) I probably shouldn't sweat it given where my calories are at...

Thanks everyone! FWIW... weight training wise I have been doing the following:( Typically 2-3 sets of 10-12 reps where the last rep is all I can do to lift it... all on machines... this is in addition to ~40min of cardio... M/W/F (Upper body): Inclined press Pec Dec/Butterfly Seated Row Back Extention T/TH (Lower Body) Leg…

During the week I do... we have a pretty nice gym at work... large assortment of machines, free weights and cardio equipment. Some examples of things I've done that involve a "contraption of some sort"... not sure what they are called to be honest. There is this one contraption where your sort of standing at a 45 degree…

Thanks for the feedback! Sorry for the length reply... this is also my way of "writing things down" for future reference. I did add a set to most of my routines... maybe that is the cause. I'm hoping it's either that or sodium... a little bit disheartening if it's not. In any event... I'm in it for the long haul so it…

Here's a twist... Try steel cut oats in Greek yogurt with protein powder.... The steel cut oats have a much different consistency... Almost reminds me of Grape Nuts cereal.

Several exchanges on companies that have good return policies... I wouldn't normally praise them, but had a great experience at Performance Bike recently. I have a pair of Sidi Genius shoes that my wife bought for me back in 2010. I sweat like a beast... even my feet. When I went to swap out my speedplay cleats in 2012 I…

I've heard this from several others... what I've noticed... MFP tends to over inflate exercise calories. For example, I went on an easy 30 mile bike ride this weekend... MFP came in at ~1900 calories burned... my Garmin HRM calculated 820. So... that's why I haven't been eating all of them back... although I could get a…

Hi... thanks for the comments! Currently... I'm at 198.5lbs... 6'1"... shooting for the 175-180 weight range. I thought I was recording my water intake... I'm drinking over 8, 16oz glasses of water a day... I haven't budged from that. Thanks for the tip on the shakes!

Wow... lots of good advice... some comments... I was all concerned about fruits due to easily exceeding the allotment of "sugars"... I think I just need to proceed as that being nonsense. Veggies are a little bit trickier... long story made short... mid July 2009, I suffered from several pulmonary embolisms... was put on…

I have been drinking water very regularly... I need to think of some more healthy, calorie dense food options.
-
I was wondering the exact same thing.... The only way to stay below the daily allotment was to essentially eliminate fruit... Or at least have no more than 1 serving a day... Which just seemed wrong. Thanks for the replies... It's reassuring.

How did you get your VO2? Did you go to a testing lab, or did you use some calculation?

So far... The best bibs I've ever worn have been Pearl Izumi Pros... I've tried some Girodanas, Assos, Performance... All are flimsy... Last a season and that's it. The PIs are the bomb.

Almonds... Veggies in red pepper hummus... Raw sweet potatoes, carrots, peppers work well here Apple slices and crunchy peanut or almond butter

I tried Hammer for the first time during the middle of Bridge to Bridge... Horribly tasting product are kind words. ;)

Ditto on Yoga... Added benefit is that it's a great core workout... I was a bit surprised. You end up engaging a number of muscles that help stabilize your body / keep you balanced. An other added benefit... I found it helped relax my mind for the day (I was doing a morning stretch Yoga class).., I was always a bit more…

I ended up cutting cold turkey soon after Christmas. I'd often have 5-6 20oz Coke Zeros at work... Followed by a couple glasses of some diet beverage at night. Personally, weening off never worked for me... I'd eventually get a craving and cave. In my mind its much easier to think in terms of zero soda versus 1 or 2...…

I used to add a fair amount of Half and half, and then 4-5 equals per medium Americano. Come the new year, I switched to just black coffee - cold turkey. One thing I've noticed... When I heavily doctored my coffee, I would go through several... Now that I'm taking it just black, I tend to sip more, and it lasts a hell of a…

Bump... Any suggestions? At least some validation I'm roughly going about things wisely?

I can't comment on those specifically... If interested in something else, have you looked at the Dash Diet? Very highly regarded among physicians... Mediterranean Diet is also good... Both are not too dissimilar to paleo type diets, except for stressing more on fruits, veggies, beans, etc as opposed to those that have a…

2nd the Garmin because of he GPS... I have a 350 cycling computer that I tuck in my pocket if I go or a run or walk. Garmin has a nice online site (Garmin Connect) where you can store your workouts, track heart rate, cadence, speed, elevation, distance, etc throughout our workout. The Garmin's are a bi pricier... But worth…
