Homemade iced tea (whatever tea you like best) with a squeeze of lemon and maybe a teaspoon of honey. Also, try agua fresca. Blend a little watermelon and lime juice with some water, add ice. It's refreshing and a hell of a lot healthier than pepsi. Mineral water is good too if it's the fizz you crave. If it's the sugar,…

Nah, I'd rather not think of it as a "failure" night. I'm not gonna kill myself for letting loose once in awhile (believe me, I'm uptight and self-critical enough as it is. Bringing "failure" into it is not a psychologically healthy option for me.) "Having a few" for me is usually having 2 tallboys of strongbow, or if I'm…

Apple cider vinegar is good for you, whether or not it helps with weight loss. Like I said, use it to make your own homemade salad dressing and you can't go wrong! I do not understand why anyone would drink it straight when they could just cook with it though. Use it for dressing, sprinkle a little on cooked veggies or…

I don't know if it helps you lose weight, but it makes for a great salad dressing mixed with a bit of olive oil, a squeeze of fresh orange juice and a sprinkle of cumin. That's probably a more pleasant way to have it than just spoonfuls.

This sounds right, but it doesn't make sense in my case because as a teen the only exercise I ever got was walking 2 blocks to school and back. Once I moved out on my own, I started riding a bike as my primary means of transportation, and walking all over the place too.I put on muscle mass I'd never had before. My…

For the record, I don't have a *problem* with measurements. Since I started paying attention to calories in, calories out, I've lost and then over a period of having lost interest in this and forgotten about it, I maintained. Meal frequency is always an issue, either way. My body panics about blood sugar at the drop of a…

All I know is that I was stick thin until I turned 24, having never given one s**t about how many calories I was consuming, then suddenly I wasn't anymore. Yeah sure, it's all about calories in vs. calories out, but it isn't entirely that simple. And meal frequency may be irrelevant in terms of what calories do once…

Thank you, that's very helpful. I don't have a scale at home and usually weigh myself either at the gym, or at the doctor's office, both of which I usually go to mid-day. I have thought about getting a scale though, and the morning thing seems like a good idea. I'd be curious to weigh daily just to get a sense for what…

OK, cool. That makes sense. My follow up question then is that if you can lose 2 pounds of water like that, then there is probably a 2,3,4 pound window where changes one way or the other don't necessarily indicate fat loss or gain, right? How can you be sure you really lost a couple pounds, or if there's just some other…

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why would you sweat if you aren't hot?

A great alternative to soda is to mix a little bit of juice (real 100% juice with no added sugar) with a lot of mineral water! I do 1/3 orange juice, 2/3 mineral water. It's tasty and fizzy and a lot better for you than pop. Or just plain mineral water, if you like it that way, is even better. Maybe a squeeze of lemon.

Cycling is great. My bike has been my primary mode of transportation for most of my adult life, and I have to say, I am very proud of my nicely toned legs even if the rest of me is a bit soft. I stopped riding for a couple years when I moved to a new city with scarier roads and my weight gain really flew off the handle at…

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about completely avoiding any sugar at all for the rest of the day, although I definitely wouldn't eat any desserts. I would consider switiching yogurt brands if the one you're eating now has that much sugar in it. Try plain 0% greek yogurt and if that's too bland for you try a drizzle…

Give your body some time to adjust to being smaller. I can't tell you from my own experience (as I haven't lost the weight yet) but a friend who lost over 100 lbs tells me it took a few months but her boobs perked back up after awhile.

1 - I was always very thin as a kid/teen. I had a single mom, and we were poor and all that but my mom was (almost obsessively) committed to eating healthy and never kept any junk in the house. We always ate balanced meals comprised of whole foods, very little processed stuff. It was never about weight or dieting, always…

I have the same problem.... that's actually how I gained this weight in the first place. I was always very thin as a teen and in my early 20s, one of those scrawny stick figure girls that thought "I can eat anything and it doesn't effect me." Well, after a few years of trying to satisfy my appetite, which had always been a…
