You should Tyler. Ok the trainer I got was at a reduced cost as my works sports club I joined gets a reduced rate, but if you get a properly certified trainer you only need a few sessions to set you up. I was sceptical at first but now I'm glad I did it.

What also amazes me looking at these photos (and also guys big congrats to you all!) Is how much taking off weight changes the appearance of some people - some of you look noting like your before photos! Now I can understand why people walk pass me and I have to stop them as they don't always recognise me. I guess it a…

Super Furry Animals - yes they are real and are from Wales :-)

I've been doing this for about two years now Frances, but your welcome to add me as a friend if you like.

Every single one of you look amazing! Such an inspiration as we're just all ordinary people getting healthier and fitter! https://goo.gl/photos/qrkGpfuc5X7TWXTT7 https://goo.gl/photos/udK1qZX3FVn8Xr9L7

I get a "chocolate" flavoured one called Progress Whey Protein powder and just use water. I don't find that its a bad taste, though I hear that powders with no added flavour taste bad but you can add them to other things without altering the taste of what you are mixing them with.

Once you hit 54 all that stuff stops being an issue :-) I know that from personal experience :-)

The only effective way to lose weight - imho - is a sensible calorie defecit combined with a regular exercise routine. There are no short cuts - nah strike that - there are shortcuts but as the name suggests its a fast way to lose weight - mibby - but equally fast to put it on again. Besides taking the long journey means…

What djspacecaptain said: I do not look great at the end of my gym session, but then again who does :-) Seriously though, if the glove thing works for you then why not. After all its your gym session, so you do what you need to do. Also I find folks don't really bother about what others are wearing or doing as they are too…

Had the same issue myself for a while. Luckily my work place Gym have a deal with a personal trainer and I had a session with them and discussed my journey and my goals; to put on a bit of muscle and not lose weight. They designed a programme for me and gave me advice on what to eat and appropriate supplements - best money…

Arran Blonde beer, from the Isle of Arran off the west coast of Scotland. Just amazing!

I think "bounce back" isn't the way to think of it, getting back to good habits is. I've done it many times, but I've just sighed, dusted myself down, and started small and built up to where I was before. Anyways, a few "failures" does you good imho, as it make you realise that your gonna make mistakes, but you can learn…

3lb a month? Yes that's very achievable and with little changes like - finding ways to walk more, use the stairs instead of the elevator. Also try fitting inn a walk every day, and if you can manage it a step routine. I lost 62 lb for my wedding last year. It was over a year but I was looking at a 1 - 2lb a week loss with…

Feeling the difference in my core - I seem to feel my abs are firmer (no six pack though!) and support me better; I like the way my body now feels when I move around; I like walking up five flights of stairs to my office and not feeling like my heart is going to explode out of my chest :-)

I think there are few and far between that do 100% "clean" eating 100% of the time. I do have those "naughty" foods / treats on a fairly regular basis but I keep it within certain restrictions. I tend to do what another poster said - the 80% / 20% ratio and that works for me. Btw I've seen me "gain" about 4lb over a…

On the whole BBC said this about food thing - they only report the headline grabbing stories. Now I'm a vegetarian so its no odds to me about bacon, but I'm highly sceptical of health reporting in this country in general. If you want the facts its always best to go to a peer reviewed study. There's a book by a doctor Ben…

Hi! I'm from the UK feel free to add me as a friend

The MFP exercise options don't cover everything. However, what I do is use an online calorie burn calculator then find an activity on mfp that's fairly similar and log that. This is the one I use: https://www.healthstatus.com/calculators/ It's the 9th item down, hope its of use to you.
-
I know this may not be the work routine you have but there is a MFP online community for shift/ night shift workers who share their ideas on eating healthy while working shifts, might be worth a visit to get some ideas?

Well done! I could not agree more with your post. When you change your mind set to being healthy its the breakthrough moment that means you will succeed. You must be very proud of your achievement, and so you should be!
-
Cant see why not. if you lose 1 - 2lb a week, not that difficult with diet and exercise I'd imagine you'll hit the stone loss. Mind you, it depends on a lot of variable's, but good luck to you!
-
I usually gain about 4 - 6 lb over Xmas and New Year. the first week to 10 days I "lose" 3lb, and the rest takes another week to 10 days to come off, but that varies a lot. Basically, it's probably water retention and once you go back to your normal routine things will work out ok.

Eat the way that your comfortable with. I have read loads of sites and they all say different things. However, when I got to reliable sites (not Bro Science ones!) they say as long as your eating a good healthy diet then the timing of its not that important. Ok mibby its important to world class athletes, which I certainly…

Hi! I lost 59lb and what helped me was rethinking how I viewed things. Firstly I changed from "I have to lose weight" to "I want to be healthy". Secondly, I recognised there are things I love to eat, that are not that great for me in the amounts I was taking. So what I did was set a realistic goal - 1 year and an average…
-
Congrats on your big day! a 1lb a week is totally achievable, but you'll have to log everything and get some exercise in
-
Seriously, 800 calories? You should speak to a nutritionist that looks way too low to me. However, I'm not a nutritionist, so they will advise you better than I can. Personally speaking, I agree with the other posts, plus as a Ovo Lacto Vegetarian I'm used to looking at non meat sources for my protein; I use this site for…

I've never heard of Orangetheory workouts, but if its getting you exercise and you're getting fitter why not. On the scale / logging thing as others have said it takes no time at all to weigh food and log it. Just allow for the minute or two weighing when prepping meals; I really don't think about it, it's just something…
-
I'm pretty amazed at how similar the approaches are to my own!: I think "maintain healthy lifestyle" not "maintain weight"; I log every day - and plan meals for the week on a Sunday; I allow for "celebration" days - Weddings, holidays, birthdays, and get back on track asap afterwards!; I weigh myself once a week; I…
-
Seriously good work there! BMI is a sweeping generalisation and I used it to start with but I think it doesn't work on an individual basis. I've since found other ways of measuring ideal weigh, well not quite weight, but here it is - It's called height / waist ratio [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waist-to-height_ratio].…

Great article ! I cant say I was addicted to food but I certainly used food / drink to get through difficulties I had in my life; I would just binge eat or drink. When I started getting healthy, watching my weight, logging food and drink and exercise regularly I felt different. I started to noticed that when I was down and…
