I was on a plateau for over 8 weeks, after losing 40 lbs, and I did all of the research too. I tried several different methods to break out including reviewing my calories to make sure they weren't creeping up, increasing intensity of workouts, increasing frequency of workouts, cycling calories, etc. Nothing seemed to work…

Good for you!! I think it's all about taking control of your health and not letting food (or anything else) control you. Each one of us has to choose the best path for ourselves and it sounds like you have a good handle on what works for you. Best of luck as you move forward!!!

First of all, congratulations not only for dropping so much weight but also for taking such measures to improve your health!! You are definitely a success story and you deserve to celebrate the progress you have made. As to your cravings, I think some of us are just predisposed to be addicted to sugar and fats. I have to…

That dress is amazing on you!! I tried on that same dress, at White House Black Market, in solid black. I loved it but I think I need to drop a few more lbs before it really looks good on me. It is a very flattering dress but you truly do it justice Girl!! Now you make me want to push harder so I can go back and buy that…

I have a torn rotator cuff and subsequently my right shoulder froze. I agree with other posters that it is very painful!! I received 2 cortizone shots deep in the joint which relieved the pain and swelling enough to allow me to do extensive physical therapy which broke the frozen shoulder free after several months. Follow…

The one thing I didn't see advised here is patience. I was on a plateau for over 2 months and in that time I did everything I could to break through. I took all of the advice on mixing things up, cycling calories, upping workout intensity, strength training, reviewing calories for creeping up, etc. Basically I was doing…

CONGRATS!! Bathing suit shopping can reduce most strong women to tears if they let it! I had a similar NSV a week or so ago and I was able to find 3 suits, on sale! I could never buy them on sale before because nothing was ever left by then in my size. I left the store feeling really good about my self and looking forward…

I totally agree! While it's more difficult if your spouse/ SO is not supportive, you are still a grown-up and can make your own choices. My husband is very thin and fit, and he can eat anything he wants. He loves chocolate donuts, Hershey Kisses, and brownies. I do not have the metabolism to support eating whatever,…

I have been doing a lot of reading on this because I've been on a plateau myself for about 8 weeks now. I lost weight steadily (40 lbs total) prior to that but the scale hasn't been moving for quite a while. In my reading I've found a few things to look for and lots of tips to get off the plateau. However, the one thing I…

First of all, congratulations on your success so far! You're doing great! I have lost 40 lbs so far and have been on MFP for nearly a year now. 40 lbs in 50 weeks doesn't seem like a lot; however, I keep reminding myself that I didn't GAIN 40 lbs in the last year, so I'm definitely better off than I would have been had I…

I've been struggling a bit the last couple of days. For example, I wanted to eat a chocolate french horn last night and then for lunch today I really wanted a huge juicy cheeseburger and fries. What stopped me last night was knowing I had already eaten my full calories for the day and didn't want to wreck it by stuffing…

I love a nice glass of wine in the evening but since losing weight I find that I have almost no tolerance any more!! I've decided I just can't handle even one glass during the week as it makes me sleepy and then sluggish the next day. I have a harder time working out the following day too. I save my glass for the weekend…

I'm right there with you! I've been stuck for about 8 weeks now, fluctuating up and down about 2 lbs but basically staying at 173 (40 lbs off). I've done some research here and other sites about different tactics to break through but so far no change. I've reviewed my calories, tried varying my intake to shake things up,…

CONGRATULATIONS!! Your progress is awesome and I am inspired to stay strong. I totally understand your feeling that "this time is different". I've lost weight and gained it all back by trying all of the quick fixes that are never sustainable. When I started this process last year I started making changes that I could…

Congratulations!! I just did a huge purge myself this past weekend and donated 2 huge lawn bags full of stuff to charity. This is the first time I've ever gotten rid of clothes that are too big and it was a little scary, but I know I can keep moving forward so I will not need those clothes again. :flowerforyou:

Mine said 175 lbs for at least 10 years...even though I was over 200 lbs most of that time (213 lbs at my highest). I always felt like a big fat liar when I had to show it. Now I'm 173 lbs and proud to show it off!! LOL!

Great progress and glad you've found a system that will actually work for you long-term! I know I could not eat so little for the long haul. You did the right thing and you're on your way to being strong and slim...not just skinny! Whoop Whoop!!
-
Thanks to all of you and yes, it was incredibly liberating! I did stop and think about the waste since many of my clothes were pricey and in great shape, but I felt so much better donating them and hoping they will help someone else look and feel great about themselves. I am really so grateful for all of the support and…

I'm stuck on the same island as you and I've been here at 173 (floating a pound or two up/down) for the past 7+ weeks. I've been taking the advice I've found online, varying my calories, varying my workouts, etc. but I'm still stuck. And, from what I've read, that's not uncommon. I'm just trying to be patient until it…

That is so great!! I love it when that happens! Congratulations on your progress and best of luck on your journey!

I have gone from 213 (starting in September last year) to now 173, which is "only" 40 lbs in 11 months, so my loss has been very slow and gradual too. I've actually been on a plateau for about 7 weeks now, holding steady but not losing. I understand where you are coming from because we all want to snap our fingers and be…

Well, I hope I don't offend anyone by bringing the Bible into it, but the Bible does teach that when we try to walk a path that is better for us, whether spiritually, physically, or mentally, we will find people in our circles who will disparage our efforts to be better people. I'm not sure why some people are threatened…

I would bet that strict diets and lots of cardio and yoga are a big part of why they look the way they do. However, I am sure that genetics play an even bigger part. I think some people are just genetically predisposed to be very thin. They are also generally quite tall and have beautiful facial features, which no amount…

I had about 3 weeks a while back where I didn't workout due to a variety of excuses. I got sick, my son got sick, I got sick again, I was out of town.....the list goes on! Anyway, one morning I finally just made a commitment to myself to exercise that afternoon, after work, no matter what. I forced myself to keep that…

Congratulations!! I've been having that same "problem" of steadily shrinking out of stuff. Fortunately I had a stock-pile of various sizes so I haven't had to do too much shopping until this past weekend. I've run out of my "skinny stash" of clothes to fall back on so I just pick up a few core pieces to tide me over until…

It really was a great feeling and I'm still riding that high! It has pushed me to eat cleaner and workout harder. I truly want to thank all of you here at MFP for your support and encouragement. Good luck and God Bless every one of you!

I am in the same boat as you. I've been basically at the same weight for about 7 weeks now but I increased my exercise routine and added strength training so I think that has a lot to do with it. I've read that changing things up helps so I've been trying different exercises and varying my calories a bit more (never going…

Love the suggestion to watch for the dress to go on sale and then snag it for future wear. My husband is so sweet and totally supported me buying the dress at full price but I just couldn't justify it to myself. Now maybe at 50% I will re-think that! I have a couple of large storage tubs (like for Christmas stuff) that are…

Thanks guys!! It did feel really great and I was so excited to share it here. The success stories from others have really kept me going so I hope this inspires others. :flowerforyou:

Thanks for all of the replies!! I usually workout inside, either at home or at the gym, but I have tried the last 3 weeks or so to really increase the intensity of my workouts so that I am burning more. I have also tried to increase the frequency. I admit that I was not really exercising that much before so I have also…
