3 weeks, 8 lbs, and my "fat pants" could be removed w/o unfastening.

I can't see your food diary, so I'll just ask. Are you logging your food? Are there places you can easily cut sugar? If yes, why not start with that? Not dissing eating clean. I'm all for improving our eating habits. In the UK, only 1 in 6 adults have ever prepared a meal from scratch, and the US is sure to be just as…

IF you are obese & relatively new to exercise, this really is a fantastic article. Probably a good read for well-meaning fit folks, too. MFP staple: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants In any case, carbs. They're not evil. That said, 8 eggo waffles and 3 cups…

Great advice here re: uppping calories. Even a small bump can make a huge difference (100 cal increase was like a night/day difference for me. Your experience may be different of course. Just saying you can start small & experiment upward) One other thing: please do ask your doc to *measure* your RMR (resting metabolism…

Okay, I understand this perspective. I do. Where I think folks are being unkind is assuming that everyone has the time & knowledge to cook. Consistently. Especially if they are feeding children, too. CAN you eat healthy less expensively? Sure. Yet it takes time and energy, especially when you're learning how. Not everyone…

MapMyRun It seems to do pretty well on the assortment of hills around me, too. Wasn't expecting that from a free app.

This - and with cdiff, take extra care stay hydrated & electrolytes in balance. Hope it resolves soon for you.

REST. Wouldn't hurt to do the OTC anti-inflammatory of your choice, either. Religiously at the intervals specified on the label. After a day or two, if you're not better, see your doctor. If you are better, try maybe a 50% workout - all good? Great! If not, see your doc. Knees shouldn't hurt, and we've only got two.

Cheesecake Factory's Pecan Crusted Catfish dinner. That was ~2500 calories, IIRC. And the wasabi crusted ahi ~2000. *sigh* Alas. bridge. water.

This. When I turned 40 (expecting to be doing longer & longer swims & tris along w/my friends), you'd have thought my warranty expired. It's hard to be patient, and I sincerely wish you all the best in your journey to wellness.

Really proud of this one - it was windy and -18 degrees (F) out, with 6-24 inches of snow the whole 6 miles (hello hiking boots & crampons...may consider snowshoes next time)

+1 And, just a thought - some people (me, for one!) tend to use breakfast to "fuel up" for the day, then ratchet it back a bit later in the day. You have a different pattern (we're all different!), yet perhaps on days like this you could use this other rationale to help you think of it positively. Keeping your brain onside…

INTP, although over the years I've shifted closer to an INTJ. Description is spot-on, always has been. Although I've learned to behave more like an extrovert when helpful at work.

There are 18-24" of snow from the last 24 hrs, with more predicted today. Plan B was this combo - very time efficient & certainly better than nothing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF5-uMJD8uw http://www.fitnessblender.com/v/workout-detail/17-Minute-Pilates-Core-Series-Workout/8n/ However, I just looked outside and then…

I wash my hair only every 3-4 days. If I've worked out & my scalp's gotten really sweaty, then I put/keep my hair in a loose ponytail & hold that out of the way while rinsing the roots. I've seen great reviews on dry shampoo, but with Moroccan Oil already in my hair, I'm just loathe to add more layers of product. Seems to…

Nope, not trying to spot reduce (agreed - it doesn't work!). Am currently focusing on flexibility and core, as those were neglected in favor of heavy lifting that was not balanced. Meaning that the variety of lifts I could do was medically restricted, *and* I ignored core, flexibility, and cardio. In my 20s, I had lumbar…

Finally - an ecologically sound, sustainable low-carb diet. IN!

They completely vary from person to person. We don't in fact, all crave chocolate. I rarely crave sugar in any form, nor deep-fried things. That said, don't EVER get between me & a source of salt. Or freshly baked bread. Also? Anyone threatening my cup of tea is just asking for trouble. Guidelines I've seen suggest…

Another possible angle - if your current diet is flexible enough: I've found a few days of not having ANY rice, quinoa, pasta, or bread works wonders. I don't mean eliminating or reducing carbs, just the tasty ones and their "close cousin substitutes". Totally a personal, subjective call what those things are. For me it's…

Yep - trackin' it! So far it works out well: long hike, drink afterwards. The calories balance out and then some. For the occasional drinkfest? Cinch up on calories a day or two before and/or after. Even if it doesn't entirely take care of the overage, it'll help. Neither the world nor your waistline will explode from an…

Will definitely try hanging leg raises - thank you! Yeah, squats & deadlifts are out. But seated leg press & walking lunges are okay. Talk about frustrating! Still, it's time to focus on what IS possible.

No matter when you are going, pack a layer or two that you'd wear on a cold drizzly autumn day in DC. No winter stuff needed, but damp/chilly/fog/wind is a year-round thing. Not to say there aren't beautiful sunny days. There are! Yet even on those days, the ocean provides brilliantly cool breezes every evening & night.…

Welcome! Since being on Synthroid I reached my highest weight (236), yet also dropped to my current 215. Mostly through walking and weightlifting. OH - one really useful thing in managing my food, was getting my resting metabolism rate TESTED, rather than using an online calculator. Since thyroid issues mess with your…

My keto diet was a bit lower carb and lower fat than your current macros. I used it to get from 236 to 223, which is where my MFP ticker starts. I feel it was very helpful for where I was at the time. (Just as you feel it's right for you in your current context) HUGE YMMV I was medically supervised, as it is important to…

This! *grabs popcorn*

lots of hills & ~2 miles on snow

Huh, very different perspective. I was freaked out because I was in NO SHAPE to be in my 40s. If you do a triathlon (even just the little mini tri-for-fun ones - and they are!), the toughest group out there is the 40-something. That's for women. But take a look at the men, and you might be surprised at just how strong the…
