Way to go! And you certainly showed that treacherous scale what's what. Well done! *group hug* :drinker:

Thank you so much for posting this! And wouldn't it be extra-Irish of you to limp 3 miles on crutches for a beer? :drinker:

Kind of a "duh" thing, but remember you can also use stairs, chair, sofa, etc. to change the angle on knee push-ups, too. That makes them substantially harder. You're getting the medical stuff sorted out and will hopefully be back to full ROM before you know it.:drinker:

Hello, I'm Stripeness (you can call me Stripe), currently living near Lebanon NH. Just moved out here in July from CA and love it! My parents/grandparents were all born & raised in Brooklyn, so I'm excited to be doing the Brooklyn Half in May. Running - I'm not a runner. But I enjoy pretending, and am currently walking…

I'd love to do a St. Paddy's Day race! (and by race, I mean staunchly representing the Clydesdale Turtle division!) That said, I've got travel 3/1-mid-March, so I'll commit once I've got firm dates.

In (with a bigger goal this time! And thanks for keeping this going :drinker:

Nope - most of my reply was about anything BUT. Just mentioned VLCD @ end since it had been in thread. Not evil, just not (imo) the first thing to do. *raises spoon of Ben & Jerry's in salute*

OP, here are two articles relevant to your situation: 1. Peer-reviewed medical journal. Gist - it may not make sense for you to rely on "feeling hungry." http://www.cell.com/trends/neurosciences//retrieve/pii/S0166223613000064?cc=y#MainText For some people, hunger is a very reliable signal. For others, not so much. HUGE…

Congratulations on the successes! (and it's great to have in-house support, isn't it?)

Today was last day of running in January. Mileage really exceeded my wildest expectations (you only get that once, so I'm gonna bask in it!)

Heheheh. Not funny. Yeah. I've got 3 days before marked on my phone calendar, so it alerts me. To remind me: -- not to behead anyone, no matter how desperately they need it - they get a 72-hr reprieve, is what I tell myself. -- not to see movies that will make me cry & embarrass myself. Horrible offspring didn't warn me…

You most certainly can do this. And if TDEE is stressing you out, then use the NEAT approach: let MFP calculate your daily caloric goal, and then eat back 50-100% of your exercise calories (I eat back 100%, others vary - do what works best for YOU). Note: for many people, using a 1.5 lb/wk loss goal and/or "lightly active"…

Hmmm...Garibaldi or Seahorse? So hard to decide. The cichlid thing sounds great 'til you actually have & raise kids. BTDT. DONE. Seahorse it is  And uh, the most obvious thing about an alpha is that if you are, ya don't gotta say so. (But hey, I like popcorn & trainwrecks)

Whew! Gotta say, it's a LOT more miles than I'd honestly expected to cover. Hope this continues into February! 01/01/14 4.79 01/03/14 6 01/05/14 1.65 01/08/14 3.01 01/10/14 4.97 01/12/14 6.29 01/14/14 3.85 01/16/14 3.65 01/18/14 4.9 01/20/14 2.86 01/21/14 2.3 01/23/14 6.16 01/26/14 6.83 01/27/14 3.93…

Exactly! My nutritionist used a diff model, but same concept :-)

Regular doc, clinic, nutritionists, lots of options. While the older machines (still in use in some places) are large, the new ones are little portable (handheld size) devices. So you can find them in all sorts of places, and not just big hospitals. Obviously no guarantee that every doc in your area has shelled out for an…

Seeing a box of butter (1 lb) in the fridge and thinking "Wow, I've lost 16 of those so far. Cool."

If you were eating 800-900 cals/day, and feel you did metabolic damage, then your first starting point is: HAVE YOUR RMR MEDICALLY MEASURED. Simple & non-invasive. Looking at online calculators and BodyBugg/other gadgets is just crazy when you have reason to suspect your metabolism's off-kilter. Get it measured. THEN use…

Exactly. OP, may I recommend reading this blog post about what HRMs do and don't do? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/exercise-calories-sometimes-the-cardio-machines-are-more-accurate-404739

If I understood correctly, the challenge is mostly healthy food to meet your cals being a challenge - not that you're still starving after eating your cals? --Cooking in large batches & freezing/refrigerating portions --Keeping some frozen burritos in the freezer (I found some w/acceptable calories/macros) These are the…

Thank you. So. Much. (This thread was going so nicely up to here...) :drinker: ETA: having seen all the backup on this - my faith in humanity is restored *sniffles*. It's such a beautiful thing.

And see, there's a specific, measurable metric - NICE!

"At a fundamental level, trainees should train and eat properly and let the cards fall where they may." --I'm presently focused here *rueful grin*

Love my Kindle - old school, fairly early model. MUCH easier on my eyes than my ipad (beloved for other things!). The kindle's best points for me are: many books in 1 small form. NO time display, which is relaxing (vs ipad). And it holds its charge forever (again, vs ipad). Downside: despite all the "bookmarks"…

This. That said, the responses are following a pattern often seen when someone mentions finally recognizing an issue that stems from their childhood. Essentially "yeah, but you're an adult now" or "I had those circumstances too, and yet no ill effects from it." So, while I personally prefer the manly approach (raising a…

The Northern Rail Trail could be a very nice location for this and/or cycling...

It's the PMS days that are worst for me - not craving sweets, just HUNGRY. Okay, tbh, HANGRY! :embarassed: And like most others here, exercising seems to be useful on the rare occasion that I have cramps, although if they're really bad, I might do something low impact instead of high. And just as a nice "you're not…

There is no "too cold" -20F so far this year. Nothing's gonna keep me from getting outside. Life's too short for that. Layer up & enjoy! (oh, and on icy days...Stabilicers!)
