  • Which race are you doing? This is the general advice I give about Spartan races - Sign up to get the Spartan Race workout of the day. Those work outs focus on agility and body weight exercises. Those are MUCH more important than the running part. The obstacles are the hard part of the race, the running between in the break…
  • This. I think GSP will win, but it will be by decision or Dr stoppage. No way Nick is going to submit GSP and I don't think GSP is going to brawl with him. Even if he did, I don't think he could KO Diaz. GSP hasn't had a KO since Jan 2009 or a submission since Dec 2007. He became a more careful fighter after his loss to…
  • Wish I could make it to Miami for the Super. Those are the hardest races to get, they only have a few. I am doing the one in Virginia this year to complete my Trifecta.
  • Keep in mind - exercise to get fit, eat at a deficit to lose weight. The way you burn your calories makes no difference so long as you maintain a calorie deficit. You can lose all the weight you want without exercising at all and just tracking calories.
  • Sure it can be done. Not as easily as someone larger losing 20 lbs, but it can be done. However, at your size I would try to stick to 1 lb per week. That's not hard to do if you eat right and exercise and you don't want to set goals that are so difficult that you don't make them and get discouraged. If you lose more,…
  • 230lbs to 160lbs. I want to get to ~10% body fat, almost there.
  • Your daily deficit is built in to your calorie goal. If you don't eat your calories back you will cut in to the calories that you need to maintain basic functions. This is a good way to screw up your metabolism and slow down/stop your weight loss.
  • It's worth $3 just for the calories you'll save from the Starbucks you'll skip!
  • The problem with any "diet" is that you are going to gain the weight back as soon as you stop. Slimfast, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, all of them cost a lot more than simply learning to eat right and exercise. Learning to eat right will help you maintain your weigh loss once you achieve your goal weight and you will feel…
  • age: 41 start weight: 230 lbs current weight: 161.5 goal weight: what ever I am at when I get to 10% body fat (160ish lbs)
  • I'm 41 with a wife and 3 daughters. I own my business which takes up a lot of my time. I still make time to work out 5-6 days a week, play soccer 4 days a week, and drive the girls around to their games and practices all week. Any other "geezers" feel free to add me.
  • Great story! I love your no excuses attitude.
  • Stop weighing yourself so much. Pick a day and weigh yourself first thing in the morning on that day every week. Your weight will fluctuate (as you noticed) throughout day so it's not really a very good metric. Instead, take your measurements and track those, they tend to be a better gauge of your progress. Who cares what…
  • I think TM has a work out of the day, sign up for that and do it every day. If they don't I know that the Spartan Race has an excellent WOD. Those work outs focus on agility and body weight exercises. Those are MUCH more important than the running part. The obstacles are the hard part of the race, the running between in…
  • If it's a Sprint, it's only 5k, you probably won't need much rest if any. Maybe take it easy the day before. For a Super you probably will want to take a the day before off and be sure eat good and drink a lot of water leading in to the event. If you are doing a Beast, there is no helping you, just pray for the best and…
  • I am not a woman, and I am not 5'0" (I'm 5'9") but I figured my experience may help you decide. When I started loosing weight I originally wanted to get to 185 or so. I had weighed that much in high school when I was in really good shape and I figured any less than that and I would look sickly. When I hit 185 I was not…
  • Your body needs X calories per day just to survive - this is breathing, keeping up body temp, your heart pumping, etc. Your body uses Y calories per day doing regular stuff like walking around, picking stuff up, cooking, etc. Your body uses Z calories per day doing exercise. Total calories needed per day = X + Y + Z In…
  • I don't hink photobucket allows for embedding images, didn't work for me either. Nice work though!
  • I didn't think I was that overweight at my largest, but I now have loose skin on my stomach and it's driving me nuts. IKR?? I used to laugh at my wife for being cold all the time, now I am bundled up right there with her. Apparently 60 lbs of fat are a good insulator. Not only did I snore like crazy, everyone that heard me…
  • Since this made me LOL, I guess I need in too.
  • Congrats on losing your elephant penis!
  • You look fantastic! I never had a c-section ;) but I did have a colostomy and pull through when I was a baby. Back in the early 70s they were not very good with leaving small scars so I've got 2 big ones and a lot of loose skin that doesn't seem to want to go away. I'm going to give it another 6 months, but your results…
  • First time? Probably 30-35 lbs. Now I heard it all the time even from people I see often. I would imagine most people would want to make sure that you have indeed lost weight before asking. Kind of like asking if a woman is pregnant, nothing worse than being wrong.
  • I currently run in Ascis Gel Cumulus 14s and they have been very good. They are light and very comfortable. You can find them from $80-110 depending on where you shop.
  • Tracking what you eat is WAY easier than just piling on the exercise. Not only that, but building good eating habits will help you stay healthy when you reach your goal. Watching what you eat doesn't mean having to diet or eating bad food, it just means making smarter decisions when you do eat.
  • I play a lot of soccer. 6-8 hours per week at a minimum, more when the seasons start back up. It's a fantastic workout and you don't even realize you've been running for 2 hours! I also love to work out at 9Round. It's a kickboxing themed workout that is a ton of fun. I also secretly enjoy playing Wii Cheer with my…
  • Dang, that's dedication! My Sprint and Beast are close, about an hour for the Beast and right down the road for the Sprint. The Super will be up to a 3 hour drive depending on which venue they put it at, so I have it easy compared to you. No kidding, they need more Supers. That's really the hardest part of a Trifecta.
  • You are in for a treat! And by treat I mean a major *kitten* kicking!!! The Vt Beast is the hardest one on the schedule, it's gotten quite the reputation. I hope to make it up there one day to do the Ultra Beast (2 laps). Good luck!
  • Thanks, good find!
