  • When was the last time you replaced your running shoes? It's recommended that you replace about every 300 - 400 miles. I recently had knee pain - going up and down the stairs was painful for me and I narrowed it down to my shoes just being a really poor fit. Once I got new shoes, the knee pain stopped. I have really high…
  • I would caution you about overestimating your calories burned via exercise. Generally, when I run 3 miles in about 30 minutes, I burn about 300 calories. Let's assume that you're burning 300 calories walking - to get to 1,000 calories burned in a day, that's a LOT of cardio. Again, just want you to be cautious there.
  • These are yummy - I make them all the time. And healthy with bran, wheat germ and flaxseed in the breading. http://www.marthastewart.com/339749/baked-chicken-fingers
  • "Across the Universe" by Fiona Apple - originally done by The Beatles (I know, a bit blasphemous, but it's a beautiful song.)
  • Yes to this ^^^, you ate 250 calories today so, you probably have 1,000+ left over for the day. Holy cow! That means you could eat almost anything and still fall within your calorie allotment for the day. Enjoy dinner!
  • Like many, I started at 1200 and the scale barely moved. I bumped it up to 1500 and it supercharged everything. Lost 12 lbs. I eat back my exercise calories - which for me, is usually about 300-400 after a good run.
  • ^^^ A girl after my own heart. Last night, I went out with friends and told myself that I would have 2 cider beers. Instead, they were out of cider, I had 3 regular beers and 3 slices of pizza. Over by about 500 calories :drinker:
  • ^^ I second the Dove. I am stinky and I put the Dove on at night before I go to bed. I take a shower the next morning, so I don't have to worry about the white residue on my clothes. If I work out in the afternoon/evening after work, then I usually put a bit more regular deodorant on, but at that point, I'm approaching…
  • Does your weight include the container?
  • Have you replaced your sneakers lately?
  • I just put RunMeter on my phone. The app is free and you pay another $4.99 for tracking. The app will actually send email updates to you to let you know when she runs 1 mile or even by minutes. It gives you a link to a map too. I looked at a couple of sites and this one was the cheapest.
  • Yes - Pilates definitely does have a learning curve. I took mat Pilates for many years until I switch to the Reformer and when I started I felt like a clumsy fool. You'll learn and you'll get there! And there are just exercises that you are never going to be your favorite. My teacher still corrects me and challenges me on…
  • ^^^ This is a great idea.
  • Ugh - up 1.5 lbs, but TOM, so hoping for water weight.
  • Burpees this morning and Pilates this evening
  • Edinphx - thanks for the tips. Holy crap, I'm going to be laughing imagining about these when I run a 5K on Sunday.
  • Have you also been stretching before and after? When I started C25K, once I started stretching, a lot of my soreness went away. Just search for running stretches and you'll find a bunch.
  • A suggestion I got was to install an app that tracks your run via GPS - usually used for tracking mileage, speed, etc. - but it also shows location. Give your login info in to your significant other or other friend/family member and they can track your run. Beyond the crime aspect, you could also trip and knock yourself…
  • Honey, he did you a huge favor. Huge. He just showed you that the opinions/feelings/peer pressure of others are more more important to him than the relationship he built with you. Marriage is great, but you're going to face challenges that are bigger than extra pounds. If he's going to be a flake about this, he's going to…
  • I find I drink a lot more when I use a straw. For whatever reason, it just goes down easier.
  • I used to have a co-worker who would not eat sweets of any kind - candy, cakes, pie, etc. - nothing, zip, zilch, nada. She was the same co-worker who would just whip up a batch of brownies or cookie bars and bring them into the office for a "special treat". We swore she was trying to fatten us all up to make herself look…
  • I love the Dannon Oikos Vanilla - has a slightly different flavor than the other Greek yogurts. Also, the Fage with the honey is delicious (the honey helps mask the flavor) - not sure on the calorie count on the Fage though.
  • Love, love, love Pilates. Been doing it for years. If you are in it just for the caloric burn, then you might want to look at other options. If you're looking for an exercise to strengthen core muscles, improve balance, give you long, lean muscles, and help with overall strength, then it is great. I always feel a foot…
  • Used it to start running a few years ago and it worked great for me, I had trouble running for 1 minute without getting out of breath. They now have a few apps that tell you when to start and stop running, which are great. I recommend signing up for a 5k about 10 weeks from now so that you have something to keep you…
  • And remember, sometimes you have good running days and some days you have bad running days. It took me awhile to realize that and I was down on myself when I had bad days. In the beginning, it's easy to have tough days. I remember when I was doing C25K for the first time, when was able to run up a short, steep hill without…
  • There are 17 weeks (starting Monday, 3/4) between now and the end of June. That would mean you would need to lose 3.3 lbs. per week. Considering an "average, healthy" weight loss is about 1 lb per week, that might be a bit too ambitious. But, I think you could probably do 20 lbs with no problem!
  • I agree with letobot - start with walking. Getting out and moving is half the battle! Maybe if you're able to walk 2 miles and feel good (not exhausted, winded, aching, etc.) when you're done, they you're probably ready. I did C25K and it makes all the difference in the world to get a good pair of running shoes. My body…
