I'll usually eat some fruit when I wake up before I head to the gym. I'm going to have to experiment with it a bit because that's not getting it done on the mornings I swim laps for an hour. Next swim day I'm going to try adding in a couple of hard boiled eggs about 40-50 mins before I get to the gym.

If all other things are equal but now you're just feeling different or off you may want to consider mentioning it to your doctor. There are some pretty insidious curve balls your body can throw at you health wise and the creep in nice and gradual to the point where they almost seem the new normal.

I think you may want to flex what you're eating before and after your workout. If you're doing heavy calorie restriction the fatigue you're feeling is your body telling you that it isn't getting what it needs to repair itself from the exertions.

It happens, keyboard warriors abound. If the manner in which you present information offends and detracts from the likelihood your intended audience is going to be receptive of that information... then what was the point of presenting the opposing view? I did the juice thing for a couple of months a few years ago. It was a…

It's not stupid to feel that way and a lot of times for me I've done the same thing and then compounded the problem with the mentality of well, I screwed up so it doesn't matter anymore I'll just eat whatever. Something that helped me was to keep in mind that the goal is progress not perfection. If these kinds of cravings…

Are you eating enough nutrient dense foods? Leafy greens, fruit (especially berries) are high in a lot of the nutrients that your body needs to take care of itself. The upside is that if you eat enough of them there isn't any point in taking a multivitamin (because you're getting what you need through your food) plus you…

Gym etiquette is gym etiquette and as a trainer the guy should be setting an example of how to behave in an enclosed space where access to resources have been paid for and are equally available to all. Posters/notes are for the passive aggressive. I'd attempt to escalate to the gym owner, if nothing else just to let them…

The book I was pulling nutritional content from cited the "Nutritionist Pro Nutrition Analysis Software v2.5, 3.1" as the source for showing that 100calories of broccoli contains 11g of protein while steak only contains 6g. Since I'm not going to go and purchase that software to verify the information, I went to the USDA…

Thanks for the feedback. It's good to hear from someone that's already blazed this trail. My rule of thumb is that consistency trumps and as long as I'm not causing myself injury then the worst that can happen is I develop some bad habits regarding form. I've always been a good, strong swimmer but there's a difference…

I just get annoyed because as soon as someone starts asking questions with the words "eating healthy" they just get piled on by people who want to state that there is no such thing as unhealthy food. If you look at the nutritional content of 100 calories of broccoli compared to 100 calories of steak, it isn't even close.…

From my direct personal experience the more I make vegetables, fruits, and legumes a part of my normal eating routine and avoid processed foods, my sense of taste changes and I get more flavor out of foods that were previously a chore to eat. It gets to the point where foods that I previously enjoyed now don't taste good…

Once a week. I'm so tall I can't even see any changes that are under 20 lbs. I get more excitement out of tight clothes becoming loose than I do changes on the scale. I KNOW the scale is going to change but if I focus on that it'll drive me insane.

I did not swim today but I did yesterday. I'm easing into the gym and alternating days on the elliptical with days in the pool. I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of building up endurance swimming. Presently I am just alternating strokes so I can keep moving... until I have to take a couple of minutes to catch my…

I get up and walk around the office building once an hour but that's more to keep my back from getting tight. It's not ideal definitely in winter depending on your location but consider spending some of your lunch hour walking around the parking lot. When the oil industry went belly up I had to transition from a job and…

It's not silly to get frustrated. If we were complacent we wouldn't have gotten up and started moving. What everyone else has said is correct about not spot reducing but I didn't see anyone mention visceral fat. This is a fat deposit in your abdominal cavity that hangs out around some of your internal organs, most notably…

For me it is just repetition that becomes habit. We're all naturally creatures of habit and if we stick to a routine for a couple of weeks it becomes just part of the pattern of our daily choices. I also have to incorporate real world activities that require fitness and give me something competitive to work at. I suck at…

Going to the gym when you feel like going to the gym isn't really a big deal. Tenacity comes into play when you don't feel like going and you do it anyway. Those have been some of my most rewarding workouts. What works for me is making a plan. Once I've gone through he trouble of making a plan and projecting it out into…

I am terrible at losing weight for the sake of losing weight. I have to find some kind of activity that I enjoy that keeps me active and in shape. This way being healthy becomes more than a meticulous and repetitive cycle of weighing food and counting calories, which isn't maintainable... it becomes your lifestyle. I don't…

I totally get it. People talking on cell phones annoys me no matter where it is, but it's just me being a cantakerous old man and remembering a time when people in public went about their business and kept their yaps shut.

I think you should just ignore it or turn your headphones up if it bothers you. You can also move to another treadmill. I'm allergic to perfumes and when I go to movies sometimes someone wearing a ridiculous amount will sit near me and it'll start to trigger a migraine. I just get up and move to another seat. Something…

Currently living in Lake Dallas, working in Irving. I go to 24 hour fitness off of 635 since it is near my job and lets me beat the morning traffic rush. If someone checks in on this time capsule tread and I'm still active on here, drop me a line.

If all calories were the same than most Americans wouldn't be overfed and malnourished at the same time.

I get the same thing. They're always buying us lunch too. I found these "eat smart" broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, 4 serving vegetable packs at Braums and now I keep them on hand at work. It's about the same size as bag of chips and it gets me something munch and crunch on without being stupid about it.

Make the conscious decision that you're in control of yourself and you decide what you put in your body. If you stop drinking soda it is going to suck at first but eventually the cravings will pass.

Walking on a recovery day is fine.

Consider giving "Eat to Live" a read. It has helped me a lot. It has changed how I look at food from the standard nutrition by volume to nutrition by calorie. When you compare foods based on nutrients per calorie, it becomes ridiculously obvious what you should be eating.

I'm working on incorporating a lot more vegetables into my diet and it is a work in progress. I've stuck with it before and over time it gets easier. One of the things that make it easier for me is masking it. There are a lot of soups/stew recipes out there as well as a surprisingly tolerable vegetarian chili recipe.…
