G'morning all. This was my first week back to a promise of logging & losing - I didn't do great but at least I paid attention. This morning all I want to do is borrow Beth's lightweight backpack and go out hiking with my dogs for a week. That would keep me out of trouble in the kitchen! 35 years ago I carried a 70 lb pack…

Snowy, the whole point of this exercise is not only losing weight, but learning how to maintain healthier eating habits for the rest of our lives. Try to look at it that way rather than just a temporary diet. But I totally get where you're coming from...I did disappoint myself by gaining a little weight back over the last…

Good morning all. Just wanted to share my blog post from yesterday. I've been doing lots of thinking lately about the meaning of "success". I'm ready to move forward :) "Simple Success" In the dawn of a new year, I ask myself how serious I am about being successful. Am I willing to make a plan and really stick to it? Will…

Snowy, wow! Great report. Congrats on the 6 lbs for Dec!! It not only gives YOU hope for the future, it gives ME hope! Thanks, and Happy New Year!
-
Happy New Year! Be happy, be strong, be diligent. My resolutions! :)

Happy New Year!! Welcome everyone new, we're all very fortunate to be a part of this community. January 1 Self-care notes: :| I admit I'm not immune to old habits. :* Thought I was out of the woods, but the truth is, I haven't really changed. I eat too much and I still snack like crazy at times. :( I…

Hi! Busy morning, not much time to write. Sunny and cold here, love seeing the blue sky for a change!! I'm going now to do my stretches, then will walk dogs with a friend later. Also have to wash walls - getting ready to paint the bathroom. Still deciding on colors! Wishing you all a good day. jb B)

Today will be better. Today will be better. Today will be better. Chanting helps  I'm still not quite ready to get 100% serious, I guess. But I'm not giving up! I made good progress yesterday with exercise and stretching, so that's a plus. Eating was perfect during the day but I took a plunge in to snackville at…

Interesting how we can have such good days, then not-so-good other days. You're off to a great start, Doug! I'm still looking for my Start button  I had a good day, but evening time was terrible. We have to keep going, hang on to the successes, and let the mistakes roll off our backs. Live and learn, but keep going!
-
Doug, you mentioned the memory of "700 days of discomfort" from your last go....I can see that you're dreading the next episode. Dread and fear will shoot us down every time, though, so we have to change our thinking. I agree with Bane, sustainability is absolutely key. I allow a few things that I really enjoy, in…

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas! Snowy, wishing you luck - I know from firsthand experience that it can be very difficult keeping our eating under control while visiting with family. Hoping your leg feels better soon, too. I need to make a few promises here. Resolutions, I guess they are. 1) Start a stretching routine…

I'm liking your report from yesterday, Doug! Great feeling when we get a good day under our belts. I didn't pay much attention yesterday, gave myself the day off. Today, however, strict! Feels good :)

Thank you Amy. Very sweet of you :) I'm doing ok. Each day seems to get a little easier.

Morning all. :star: Mental attitude good. :star: Lunch out with a friend today so must adjust breakfast accordingly. :star: Unplugging for Christmas dinner with family & friends tomorrow! I'll be making a boysenberry pie, spiced peaches, cranberry salad, and fancy sautéed green beans. There will be turkey, dressing, garlic…

Oh boy, Doug, I know about being depressed, it's horrible! Feels like there's no hope. That's where I've been for the longest time in regards to gaining control of my eating again. I'm looking back at a time when I felt good about sticking to my diet plan, just like you mentioned. Let's drop the beating ourselves up and…

How great that you could go over and help your friend, Doug. That's wonderful. Hope he's ok! I hear you about serving sizes. I need lots of variety, too. After I lost the bulk of my weight, I started eating more just because it tasted good. I forgot that food is something I "need" and not just things that I "want". That…

Thanks you guys, I appreciate your comments very much. Mom passed a couple of days after Thanksgiving, I was there with my family, we all helped take care of her in the last 10 days of her life. Traumatic experience to say the very least. The waves of grief come at interesting times, most when I least expect them!…

Hey Doug. How are ya? Just wondering how things are going. Let's keep putting one foot in front of the other, we'll get there eventually. I made a little progress yesterday, not a lot, but at least it's something. I need to practice continual patience which doesn't come easy! If I get disgusted, I fail. Every single time.…

Another fine day, I've got to make a plan. Yesterday was good until night time. I lost my mom recently, and of course I'm still very sad - when I'm upset I reach for comfort foods! I'm doing lots better during the day, though, so I'll take that as a step in the right direction. I'm giving myself a little space to let grief…

The soup is quite thick, 64. You can add another cup water if you like it a bit thinner.
-
Here you go, 64! Happy to share. B) Auntie Joan's Curried Red Lentils & Chickpeas 3 cups water 1/2 cup dry red lentils 1 can chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained 1/2 cup chopped celery 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 T. fresh ginger, minced (or use paste) 1/2 teaspoon hot or mild curry powder 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 1/4 tsp. ginger…

PS - What are your thoughts on healthy fats, Doug? Will you be including them? I hope so. Walnuts, flax meal, avocados are wonderful additions in small amounts. We need Omega-3s for mental health. I need lots of help in that area LOL

I'm on the barley brigade! Nice and chewy, large grains that go well with almost anything. Cook up a cup full of dry, it'll make quite a bit which you can keep in the fridge for a few days. I use about half-cup of cooked at a time, sometimes more. Love steel-cut oats as well, great cooked with apple! From Dr. Weil's blog…

Friends are good. Patience is good! Age is a factor, perhaps, but certainly not a detriment. If our metabolisms slow, then we must adjust accordingly. I need less food, period. And excellent nutrition at every meal. Instead of self control, I try to think of it as self care. Positive reinforcement ---> treating ourselves…

Pearled barley is wonderful stuff! Maybe you could try cooking some and see how you like it. I like it for breakfast, keeps me feeling full for a long time.

Ho Ho Ho! Happy Holidays! B) I'll be checking in here, too, thanks for starting the thread, Teach! I started MFP in Nov 2010 and lost 65 lbs. in 2 years. However, I have "magically" gained 20 back over the last 3 years, all because I got lazy with logging! I have officially made up my mind it's time to get rid of the…
