I would say it depends on what your workout is. For walking and running, I've had good success with my Fitbit Charge HR, but that wouldn't work as well for something like riding a bike, for example. I don't have any personal experience with how it works for strength training workouts. I've also used a Polar heart rate…

Losing weight is hard. Being overweight is hard. Choose your hard.

Oh man, it's so hard to give myself that chance, too! But that's what this is all about, rewiring my thoughts and approaches to things in order to build a healthier lifestyle. Thanks, guys!

My small thing today is that I'm letting myself take a break. I'm usually so on it about hitting my 10K+ steps a day (I'm super competitive) and recently have been trying to up my endurance level on my treadmill every evening. But I always run the risk of overdoing it and taking longer to recover because of that. Tonight,…

This is beautiful and I love it so! <3

@celinetmika, your progress is fantastic! Are you still teaching Zumba at BAC? I currently do it at LoveToMoveStudioz with Dar and Alicia, but I've found that every instructor has their own style. What's your dance style like? I tend to prefer more Latin moves. Cheers!

You're doing fantastic! 50 lbs is no small feat -- well done!

I've recently been working on putting myself first as well, after spending way too long taking care of others and putting their needs first, draining myself dry mentally and physically. What I've learned is that you can't help others if you aren't doing well! I love my Fitbit, as well. Sometimes I just have to walk around…

I just had the tiny victory of having to adjust the settings in my heart rate monitor to reflect my loss so far. B)

Love this thread! I have such a hard time visualizing what I might look like as I progress on my journey, so all of these photos are awesome! Way to go, ladies! I'm 5' 2.75", started at 227 lbs, and have set my goal weight to 130, as it's the mid-high range for BMI (which I don't put complete stock in, but until I get…

One tip that I've found really useful in the past is to figure out when upcoming events are happening and then try to visualize how far you'll be along in your journey, by then. I made myself my own chart to help me with that. The dates and the progress seem so far away, but when you tell yourself, "Wow, if I keep this up,…

I'd love to have a few more friends with similar stats and goals! I'm currently 224, started out at 227, with a goal weight of around 130. So, 97 lbs to lose! I can't even imagine. (Would like to incorporate more strength training, though, so my goal weight will probably be higher.) I'm 5'3, so everything definitely shows…

My go-to breakfast recently has been overnight oats: 1/2 cup rolled oats 1 tbsp chia seeds 1 tbsp hemp seeds (optional, if you don't like the flavor) 1/4 cup plain yogurt 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk 1/2 cup frozen raspberries Mix it all together and stick it in the fridge. In the morning, give it a stir and enjoy…

I would love to join in this! I'm 28, diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. Four year ago I was able to lose 43 lbs but because I didn't do it in a sustainable way (only ate 1100 calories per day, got 90+ minutes of cardio a day, and never ate any exercise calories back), I burned out and gained it all back when life's…

Yay, nerds! Trekkie and Hufflepuff, here! I'm in about the same goal range as you. 28, currently hovering around 220 lbs, with a goal of losing 90 lbs. Feels so daunting, but like you said, take it one day at a time! I'd be happy to have more active friends. I've been MIA for a while, and it seems that while I was away, my…

What, no replies?! I know this is from a year ago, but I'm game!

Same here!

I have family and friends who are doing it as well, which I find frustrating. The thing is, it's against Facebook's terms of use to use personal profiles for profit. That's what the business pages are for! I have no problem with people saying, personally, "Oh my goodness, I'm absolutely in love with X Product!" once, but…

I'm a freelance web designer who works from a home office, and I have a flexible schedule to put ME first, so I can get to the gym and do other errands that need to be done while I'm in town. My last office job a couple years ago was really crazy, pull-out-your-hair, breaking-down-in-tears stressful, so while I make sure…

Pics or it didn't happen, Casey! In all seriousness, I'm gonna add a +1 to what lunaephiliac said. Maybe you sweat more there or are more sensitive or something. Is your skin bare there when you run, or do you have full-length pants?

Kudos to you! I love noticing NSVs. Regarding how differently you eat, I've noticed the same for myself. I feel like I not only make better food choices, but I'm not lazy about it and I actually enjoy what I'm eating more. And since I know I'm making good choices, I feel so much better about myself and what I'm eating! And…

I don't drink my calories (except when it's a post-workout, green protein smoothie), drink lots of water, fresh fruits and veggies for snacks, and keep an eye on sodium intake.

Listen to your body and do what feels comfortable for you, and really, it depends on what your goals are. Some people are exercise junkies, and some would do anything to avoid it. Personally, I feel so much better physically, when I exercise, so I try to get in some form of exercise each day. My workout routine usually…

My favorite oatmeal combo is 1/2 cup thick rolled oats, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 cup water, microwave for 3 minutes, then add 1 cup of mixed berries, microwave for another minute, stir, and enjoy. (Or do stovetop method, but I'm too lazy most mornings.) It's like a berry cobbler for breakfast!

Since I've been focusing more on building muscle and keeping on track with my eating and enough cardio to build endurance, I haven't been on the scale at all. So far, I'm paying closer attention to how I feel physically, and that way I can notice changes in my shape and my muscles, without getting discouraged that the…

This! I'm 5' 2 3/4" (honestly!) and I have my goal set to 130lbs, but as I get closer to it, I'm going to really listen to my body and see how I'm feeling about where I am and reevaluate from there.

Oh, but I like my cave! AdBlock Plus keeps me sane... I realize that websites use ads as a way to generate income, but I never click on ads anyway, so they're not losing anything from me if I don't see them.

I don't see ads.

I add them to my oatmeal and they hide pretty well. I also do mixed berries with it, so once it's cooked and all mixed together, it's impossible to tell if it's a seed from a blackberry or otherwise. I've done a tablespoon of chia seeds in yogurt before, but that was a bit much. I would say, start small and you can work…

Sounds like my story, too! Except, I don't have any kids. A couple of years ago I made it from 210 to 167 and was SO happy and motivated and on my way! I don't even remember what got me off track, but suddenly there was more (WAY more) stress at work, doughnuts being brought into the office from the new shop across the…
