  • I'm in! I have 41 lbs more to lose, but would love to be friends with those with the same goals. :-) PS: Anyone feel free to friend me, as well!
  • I use Earth Balance margarine, but try to keep it in moderation. If I can manage, I go without. Edit: But then, I don't do dairy.
  • Yes, it DEFINITELY depends on intensity. I was going these great Zumba classes for a while, where I was burning 750-800 calories per 60-minute class. There was a ton of great energy and it was super fun. Then the instructor had to move away and now there's an "instructor" who isn't even certified, and I burn around 550,…
  • I SO agree! When I first went vegan over a year ago, my mother-in-law was constantly saying, "Oh, well you probably can't eat that," and I had to reply with exactly what you said: "Actually, I can, I just choose not to." Some people just don't get it. (They still don't.) So far, my favorite tofu recipe is from Veganomicon:…
  • My first thought is, if you're coming from eating things like meat and cheese, don't immediately go for the meat substitutes and cheese alternatives. Some of them are very good, but you probably will be comparing the taste if you try them right off the bat. Plus, it's best to avoid highly processed foods anyway, even if…
  • I totally feel you on this! My in-laws are pretty much that way. They have no concept of what it takes to lose weight and no idea what kind of mindset you need to be in. They've never succeeded, so they assume I will fail as well. Not going to happen! My sister-in-law has recently been remarking about how she's been losing…
  • These are a couple of my favorite things, right now: Chickpea cutlets: http://www.theppk.com/2010/11/doublebatch-chickpea-cutlets/ Spinach linguine with edamame pesto: http://www.theppk.com/2009/10/edamame-pesto-a-totally-satisfying-low-fat-manifesto/ I've calculated the nutritional info for both of these, which I could…
  • Veganomicon is great, but some of its recipes are a bit daunting and complex. (Try the chickpea cutlets! They're delicious! And the pineapple-cashew-quinoa stir fry is divine. So is the baked BBQ tofu with apricot BBQ sauce. Okay, I'm done.) I just picked up a copy of Appetite for Reduction, which has fairly simple recipes…
  • Couldn't have said it better, myself! I don't even worry about getting enough protein. I just eat what I eat, and some days I'm a bit lower than my goal and some days I'm higher. (Yet, people always seem to be concerned that I'm not getting enough!) Likewise with fiber. As long as I focus on keeping a lot of variety and…
  • When my husband and I first started dating over four years ago, his mom took him aside and told him that she wanted him to be aware that I would probably be overweight my entire life and to not expect me to change. She wanted to make sure that he had no expectations of me and wouldn't put pressure on me, and would also not…
  • This happens to me about 15 minutes in on the elliptical. I asked the guy at the gym about it once, thinking it may be a circulation problem or maybe my shoes, and he said it was just normal and nothing to worry about. I'm not entirely sure what's "normal" about losing circulation, but that's usually about the point where…
  • I'm happy to be your buddy, if you like! I'm not a mom yet, but am vegan! Love to have more vegan pals. :-)
  • I'm in Bellingham, too! Love it here!
  • Vegan! Feel free to friend me! :-)
  • Chickpea cutlets! I made some this weekend for the first time, and oh my yumminess! Recipe here: http://www.theppk.com/2010/11/doublebatch-chickpea-cutlets/
  • Welcome! MFP is a great community of super-supportive people. I hope you find success here! :-) The "5 weeks from now" estimate may not be the truth, but it sure is a nice goal to shoot for! Even if it takes me longer to get to that point, it's nice to see that number and realize that at some point, that will be a reality,…
  • *waves* Hi, and welcome! Saw your photos -- great job! The MFP community is DEFINITELY a great asset. Keeps me accountable when I feel like giving up. You get the occasional snark, but just about everyone is very supportive. :-)
  • Lots of great hikes and trails up here around Bellingham!
  • Definitely! I was actually just down there this weekend, for my mom's birthday. Always feels good to be "home" -- though I do love Bellingham. :-)
  • I'm vegan! I have been vegan since January of last year, and yep, still overweight! People expected me to get all skinny, but I usually eat too much, which negates the fact that I'm eating healthier overall. And I love baking.... I'm working toward consuming less processed stuff, as well. Though I love my Field Roast…
  • Hah, that sounds like fun! Unfortunately, my husband would only need to lose about 10 lbs. though I wouldn't mind challenging him on fitness level. I may top him by 25 lbs, but I know I have a higher endurance level. I should challenge him to see who can tone up their midsection the fastest. Not sure how you'd measure…
  • Just discovered this thread via doublehelix -- love it! And I love the PNW! I'm up in Bellingham, but I grew up all over, in Martha Lake, Shoreline, Ellesnburg, Bothell, and South Whidbey Island (Go SWHS Falcons!). My dad lives in Lynnwood and the rest of my family is sprinkled around South Whidbey. I came up to Bellingham…
  • My HRM is by Polar. They're fairly spendy, but I feel like you get what you pay for. I adore my HRM! :-)
  • I read that! Absolutely hilarious!
  • And you're no better! You have me craving a peanut butter and almond milk smoothie/shake. Maybe toss a banana in there. My goodness...
  • Aww man, now you've got me craving peanut butter!
  • Agreed! I love my almond, oat, and hemp milk! (Not a fan of soy, and rice is so thin.) I don't even like the taste of cow's milk anymore. Not that I would know, I suppose ... as it's been over a year since I've had any. :-)
  • Glad to hear you're enjoying the site as well! It makes things feel so much more do-able when you feel like you have a supportive community around you. I've tried out a few other calorie-counting sites, and none of them have felt anywhere near as welcoming as MFP. Keep up the good work!
