  • Look at the whole picture -- what are you replacing bread with? I stopped eating sandwiches at lunch and swtiched to salad bar (no dressing). The bread itself is not unhealthy, it's just that the raw veggies are so much better in terms of calories and fiber. If you switched bread for mashed potatoes, I don't think you'd…
  • It's not really when they noticed -- it's when they acknowledged to you that they notice. I don't comment on peoples' size, either way. Did someone gain (or might be pregnant)? I won't ask or comment. Did they lose ? Still won't comment (I did once, about 15 years ago only to find that the loss was due to a thyroid issue…
  • Way to go!

  • Way to go! I'm sure you've heard it before -- it's a journey, one whose roads aren't smooth. So you hit a bump - way to pick yourself up and keep going!
  • Something thoughtful (not necessarily spendy). Like dinner out -- it's not the restaurant you choose -- it's that you made reservations (so pizza okay) Or dinner in -- it's not the pizza you brought home, it's that you served it on nice plates with candles. Or even going out to the movies - it's a nice deal if you arranged…
  • If all things were equal - Lift weights. Add muscle, which will be a big help when you go on maintenance. Otherwise, do what appeals most. You might as well enjoy the workout.
  • Isolated, cold, timid. But once I got a routine going, it wasn't so bad (classes were ideal to set up a routine around). Even when i went to new classes, where I knew nobody and was again clumsy and inept -- it still wasn't so bad. Getting the routine going made it okay. Also, and this is completely true -- nobody is…
  • Some ideas discussed in this previous thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/536838-60-healthier-drinks-for-boozing
  • Don't look at the reflection of your clothing/self. Look at your accomplishments, at your vitality, at your actions and your nature. If you see only your physical image, then you are missing the most important part of you.
  • If you haven't taken pictures and measurements -- do so. Because the scale is not always the best reflection of how you will/have changed. For me, one of the best changes from 30DS was the conditioning -- regardless of weight, after the 30DS I felt more able, stronger. And I was more able to take on other physical…
  • I started exercising by doing the 30DS tape. At level one, following the 'modified' beginners, I still had trouble - and for some moves I had to put down the handweights (which were the lightest ones to begin with). And I was covered in sweat. The tape suggests you spend 10 days at level 1. I spent 19. And it took me 51…
  • Exercises that can help: Put a tube sock (or short scarf) on floor, with toes touching the end of sock/scarf. Using toes, scrunch up sock/scarf. Repeat.
  • Stuffed peppers - Cut 3 large peppers in half, clean out the seeds and stuff them with a mixure of: your rice (say 1 cup), 1 medium chopped tomato, 1 small minced onion, 1/2 cup frozen corn, 1/2 can of black beans, 1 minced garlic clove and 1/3 cup of shredded Monterey Jack cheese Put in a baking dish and pour some…
  • Several reasons. Self-conciousness. When I'm in a class I am one of the faceless masses. Also if I screw up a move, no biggie (plenty of people skip moves, are out of sync or don't go deeply into the moves). But on machines, it feels like being in a spotlight, with all my mistakes glaringly obvious to all. Not too mention,…
  • Where it gets too too crazy is now they are vanity sizing shoes. I get why people might be loyal to a clothing brand for a smaller size. But I really don't feel more dainty when my shoes are too big. It just pisses me off.
  • I like the 30DS which does cardio & strength -- it's 20 minutes a shot, easy to do first thing in the morning and also great for conditioning. You can do other types of exercises in the afternoon/evening if you want to do more. Plus 30DS can be done inside during the winter -- as the temp goes up I'd incorporate the C25K…
  • Get him to post his stuff on MFP. Then when you log in in the afternoon, you can comment on his early morning workout. If he gets the positive reinforcement, he is more likely to keep it up. But you keep it up -- because ultimately you can't make anyone do anything, but you can set a good example.
  • Go to the ATM/bank; pick up milk/bread; get ice melt/windshield fluid And chocolate
  • Fiber One & MiniWheats -- you can mix in dried fruit if you get bored, or sometimes I mix cereals that I already have (Fiber one plus Cinnamon Toast Crunch; Mini Wheats plus Honey Nut Cheerios ). or I'll just buy a low-cal Kashi cereal mix. Oooh & I second the almond milk -- it's nice in cereal.
  • I don't tell people to work out or suggest they try MFP. If somebody had come up to me last year and said -- "Wow, you look like you could use MFP! " Or "MFP keeps me fit- you shoud try it." I would have ignored them at best, or been irritated and refused to listen and would've made a point of never, ever visiting MFP.…
  • you cannot encourage or reinforce behavior with shame.
  • You can bend the rules plenty once you get to the top, but not while you're trying to get there. And if you're someone like me, you can't get there without bending the rules.
  • *********************OR***************************** You could do the food shopping for your family. Get the list from your mom and go. Because I don't know about your mom, but I hate food shopping, hate that nobody goes with me to help, hate the I have to slog it all into the house and hate to hear "I don't like this."…
  • Plenty of people will tell you - slow and steady. You need to change your lifestyle. That doesn't mean extreme diets or activities. It means change your life, change it today. (1) Start by tracking your food intake, do this for a few days and then take a real good look at what items in your diet are dragging you down. What…

  • Sounds like you both work and with three kids, you both have limited free time -- plus you have a new house that needs work. What are your priorites as a couple/as parents/as individuals? While I am all for parents having individual time, how do you balance those 6 hours with your family needs? That is not to say don't…
  • I lost 30 lbs in over 8 months (ending in Sept). Not a word during the whole time. BUT when I gained back 4lbs since, it must've triggered some sort of alarm, because now somebody asks me at least once a week "Did you lose weight?" and the truth is yes, but it was a while ago, and I've gained some back.

  • Big or large. BUT here's a question -- how do you describe a muscular person to a kid? If the mp is wearing a sports coat and standing across the room -- what do you say to the young (4yrs) old kid? Because saying "muscular" means nothing to them.
