You can't have a discussion about Insulin without bringing up leptin and ghrelin. Here's a descent article to start this off: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/control_leptin_and_control_your_leanness

It is not necessary to do direct arm work in order to build a nice set of guns. Just push and pull (using a vertical plane as well as a horizontal plane) hard, heavy and frequently and you will build up your bi's, tri's and delts.

I don't know why but they really are mean. I've seen it in the work place moreso than anywhere else. They always seem to be jealous or suspicious of the other girls in the office. It's ridiculous and unprofessional. Furthermore, it seems to only be directed towards other women.

You may have done some bastardized version of stronglifts 5x5 but the fact of the matter is that if you are looking to develop high levels of strength you need to be performing heavy barbell movements that you can't load properly with dumbbells (barbell back squat and deadlift in particular)

When I see those dudes pulling their "these chicks can't even stand how badass I am right now". I walk up all fat and unkept, smile at them and hit up some paused reps with 405. Their stiffies go limp so fast, it's hilarious.

This is just wrong dude, sorry. We use a wooden block to help us target our weak points throughout the bench or to overload the bar by shortening our range of motion and thus increasing the amount of weight we can handle. Board presses are usually performed by shirted benchers moreso than raw lifters. Raw lifters need…

Crossfitters generally display horrible form on the competition lifts with a few exceptions. They recruited Mark Rippetoe for a while to teach them how to perform the lifts properly which was a wonderful idea however, Mark, in his classic, no bullsiht Texas attitude, decided that it was a lost cause and left. That pretty…

As long as you are willing to acquire the necessary equipment. You cannot perform any type of heavy lifting program with the weights that you listed. I would get a cheap barbell, some plates, a squat rack and a bench and start running stronglifts 5x5. It will be the best investment you ever made. Look around on Craigslist…

Hahahahaaa

That's arguable; however, and goes back to budgeting your exercises properly. I.E. It is always better to press overhead than to do lateral/posterior delt raises when hypertrophy is the goal. It may not develop a perfectly symmetrical "cannonball" set of delts but unless you are a competitive bodybuilder who already has…

I would argue that SISscience is a completely different problem lol. Involving vegan diets, pilates and yoga.

This thread began as a thread about broscience and wound up being about you being too proud to admit that eating fast food isn't ideal lol.... amazing

Running is a great way to screw your knees up. Maybe try a different activity to get your exercise. If not, strengthening your legs should help. Do you squat frequently and heavy?
-
You should feel worn out after you train. Even after you have lost weight and are in better physical condition your training sessions should suck you pretty dry. If they don't then you need to train harder. Just hang in there, keep working hard and dieting smart and you will get there faster than you think. Results in the…

Sometimes it seems like you (and many other people on internet forums) just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

I just read this on T-Nation (another Jim Wendler quote) "Scientific studies prove me correct!" There's a general rule in this industry that you should use whatever scientific study supports your way of thinking and disregard any other study that proves the opposite, citing quackery. Alwyn Cosgrove once said that if you…

A good example of a widely misinterpreted study is the one performed by the ACSM in the mid 90's that determined that pyruvate drastically increases testosterone levels. Well..... at least that's how everyone interpreted it. What the actual study showed was that pyruvate slightly increased testosterone levels in…

"You want studies? *kitten* you, i have scars and blood and vomit." Jim Wendler I think it's hilarious when some person who is skinny and weak wants to tell me how i'm lifting wrong or when some obese person tries to tell ripped people how they're going about their cutting incorrectly based on some bs they read in men's…

There is no such thing as a machine equivalent of a free weight lifting program.

And again, ^ THIS. don't waste your time doing anything else. This is where everyone needs to start regardless of their long term goals.

I walked into my first day of football practice, I was 14 years old, probably around 5'6" 200lbs and a little chunky. Coach wanted us all to max out squat/bench/deadlift and I lifted 295/165/275 which I thought was pretty good but then some of the other kids made me look like a beeotch so I quit smiling pretty fast lol.

It wouldn't have mattered if you asked him anyway unless he happens to be a doctor/meathead. Doctors typically don't know anything about exercise or even proper nutrition.

That happened because you weren't sitting back into your squats, you were sitting down and thus placing a majority of the tension on the patellar tendon. By sitting back you can distribute the load amongst the anterior and posterior musculature of the thigh and also distribute tension more evenly between the knee and the…

Do not lift if you have any sort of neurological complication. If you just have a slightly pulled muscle, slightly sore joint, or another orthopaedic issue then it's okay to train around it but NOT WITH NEUROLOGICAL ISSUES. Nerves do not regenerate like other tissues of the body so if you wind up damaging the nerve then it…

It is generally recommended that you pull 3x the volume that you press to maintain shoulder health. I row or chin 4 times a week. Train on my friend.

I'm not sure what you mean by "metabolic burn". I am assuming you mean that you would like to burn more calories? Anywho, you basically named 2 goals, get stronger and burn fat, ("toning" doesn't actually happen, you can either build muscle or burn fat) You should be lifting to achieve either of these goals and since…

We can't tell you how to train if we don't know what your goal is. What do you want to get out of lifting?
-
one day of squatting and one day of deadlifting is plenty of work for your lower body. Or you could also squat and then deadlift twice a week. If you train heavy you might want to split these into a high intensity/low volume day and a low(er) intensity/ high volume day. To really tell you what you need we'd need to see…

I did the same when i was first starting out. Search it on my youtube channel screenname norsemanpowerlifter

How "heavy" something is relative to your strength level is referred to as intensity and is best expressed as a percentage of your 1 rep max. Typically, 85% of your 1rm or higher would be considered heavy, 50% to 75% moderate and below 50% light.
