Ok, that makes sense. Thanks.

Didn't the OP say they had stopped losing weight? They must be eating at maintenance already, right? If they have stopped losing and do not want to eat less, then why not declare victory? Our goal weight is derived from estimation (and sometimes wishfull thinking) so why be concerned about hitting an exact number?

About the convenience food... Yes, I remember that most of the neighbor mom's used them a lot of the time. They were heavily advertised during the daytime soap operas. My mom was raised on a farm and didn't know anything but eating from the farm raised vegetables and live stock. My dad was from an immigrant family…

I was my skinniest in college because of what we now euphemistically call "food insecurity." I was branded by the highschool guidance counselor as not destined for college because of my family's low income. I was going to show her and go anyway on my own dime. Probably not doable at all today, but I worked my way through…

I take planned diet breaks. I eat at maintenance for at least two weeks and I weigh and log food and I closely monitor my weight daily to be sure I'm truly at maintenance. If anything, I'm more careful of my intake on the breaks than when I'm losing. It's good practice.

I'm in my sixty's too. Although not a grandma, I think I get what you're saying. When you start on the weight loss process, it's all new and the future looks bright and you feel overloaded with enthusiasm. But motivation is what gets you started. Determination is what keeps you going. Consistency is what gets you to your…

Last night my elderly mother remarked proudly about my weight loss right in front of my sister who struggles with her weight and who is in despair about it lately. I felt very embarrassed about it and I felt awful for my sister. The subject was quickly changed and the awkward moment passed without comment. Still feel badly…

I think we are properly advising the OP as well as the silent lurkers when we say to just eat food in the proper amount. But just some perspective... Obviously many of us have done slimfast or some other "diet" and either didn't like it, or it didn't work long term or whatever. Our hearts are in the right place when we…

I would say you're due for a diet break. Just eat at maintenance for a while, at least a couple of weeks. It's good practice for when you eventually get to goal. And anyway, as you said yourself, you are already at a healthy weight. You may find that you are actually satisfied with where you are now.

Well yes that is often the case. With me it was from 130 lbs at the age of 30 to 200 lbs at the age of 60. And I'm grateful that I don't need to change much in order to lose at a satisfactory rate.

If all we are talking about is losing the 10 lbs we gained in a year, then I agree that it will take longer than many people evidently think, but it can realistically be lost in far less than a year in a sustainable way. But many people here have gained far more than that over a span of decades. It creeps on at the rate of…

I had to go to MyFitnessPal.com under apps and disconnect Fitbit then reconnect and it will receive my steps one time but not continue. I've had to do it several times today. Pain in the neck.

My husband is a somewhat overweight, but I think he's on a stealth diet. For our evening meal I typically set everything out buffet style in the kitchen. He picks and chooses whatever he wants, usually bread, meat, big pile of rice or potatoes, tiny bit of cooked vegetables and no salad. Recently, and without comment, he…

No, it's not the healthy and fit part that's embarrassing, but rather others noticing and commenting on my appearance. It finally happened that someone at work noticed and asked me about it very publicly. I felt like everyone present looked straight at my butt to see if it were smaller. Maybe they noticed my red face,…

It happened to me yesterday for a while, but I haven't checked it today. My only solution to tech problems is to turn everything off, then restart. I even logged out of the apps and restarted my phone. I discovered the problem when I tried to log back on to MFP. The message was that it couldn't access their server to log…

Stay away from those vile marshmallow peeps.

I use Fitbit to get my "exercise" calorie bonus and I eat them all back usually. I'm losing at the projected rate for my deficit. (I get some bonus for an especially active day even without intentional exercise.) The exception is bicycling calories. A 30 mile ride gives me around 900 bonus calories which I don't generally…

You know, when I read these "no support from SO" threads I sense that they are mostly concerning younger couples. At my age (62) I have a somewhat different perspective after witnessing first hand (my parents) what "in sickness and in health till death do us part" really means at the end. It's inevitable, no matter how…

Ideally each partner should be able to eat as they wish without criticism from the other or at least to compromise. If you feel pressured to eat differently than you prefer, then this is a relationship thing to discuss not just nutrition.

Whichever you like and can fit within your calorie budget. I strongly prefer whole milk and if I can't afford the calories one day, I just don't have any milk that day.

First, i learned by far the most from so called know it alls. Second, I learned from them by lurking here for a long time and observing the responses to the same questions or wildly off base statements that get posted here over and over and over. Third, because it is known that there are many lurkers on this forum, the…

Although you don't need a maintenance day, I've read other threads on the topic of diet breaks and apparently some people benefit from it both psychologically and physiologically. They don't just eat at maintenance for a single day, but for a period of 10 days to two weeks.

I'm a 62 yo female 5'6" currently 196. I put 150 lb as my goal weight. I then looked this up on www.smartbmicalculator.com and 150 is right in the sweet spot for me at my age. But here's the thing...I'm unwilling to eat less than I am now and unwilling to exercise much more than now. So, if my weight loss (now at about…

I did this for a long time, but recently got rid of my weight trend app because it began to feel too much like a report card. I was also looking ahead to see where the trend line would bring me at certain points in the future. "Look! I'll be at goal by Thanksgiving!". Never happens. I still weigh every day and I see a new…

I once ate an entire large package (maybe 3 dozen?) Golden Doublestuff Oreos over the course of a single day. No, I'm not proud of it and in fact at the time I was embarrassed for my MFP friends to see it. I logged it but not all that day. I logged a single serving each day in advance over the next however many days to…

I needed to see several months of success before I trusted the numbers. Now I can just keep on eating my calorie budget confident that it will result in weight loss over time and not worry about fluctuations or the occasional flatline. OP, I understand that you may be concerned that you're "wasting time" by stalling in…

It seems like you're swinging from one extreme to another....from mostly "junk" food to all "healthy" food. (I put those in quotes because the definitions are not well established and so they are much debated.). You can find a middle ground that is healthy enough but within your calorie budget. You can occasionally have…

Even though i'm doing this in the easiest way possible, just having to pay attention feels like a burden sometimes. The hardest thing for me is after experiencing success for a while, especially at a milestone like 20 lbs lost, I feel like I "deserve" a day or week of mindlessness.

I remember a TV ad several years ago (don't remember the product) where some guy hires teenage girls to follow him around and comment on what he ate. "Dude!" "Seriously?" "That is so gross!"
