I was able to delete entries on the fitbit dashboard (not the app) by going to the log for food intake. Touch the offending entry and an x appears next to it. You can then delete it. I don't know if you can alter the calorie amount there.

As above, the experienced fitness people advocate the use of both. I don't disagree, but depending on what your goals and capabilities are, it may be sufficient to do the exercise you like the most because then it's more likely that you will actually do it.

I resisted the idea of weighing food for a long time. I posted a question like yours, too. My reasoning was that every part of the equation is a gross estimate, so how much real difference could it make to tighten up only one component. Also, I felt like it was obsessive and what would my husband think if he caught me…

I use my fitbit adjustment now, too. Before I got one, I used a heart rate monitor, but rather than using the total calorie burn, I used ShapeSense.com to calculate an estimate based on my average heart rate.

I can say from experience that having a time goal can back fire. I had a goal of losing 50 pounds in time for a vacation. I lost only 30 and was so disappointed. And yet I lost 30 pounds!!! I now take the longer view. If I put off taking the necessary steps, then a year from now, I'll still be in the same unhappy place I…

"Lifestyle change" is one of my pet peeve phrases when used in reference to weight loss. Eating differently is just a change of habit. I think lifestyle is much more comprehensive than that. Having a baby would do it. Getting married (or divorced) or moving away or winning the lottery or losing your job might do it, too.…

I just learned yesterday not to wear my fitbit on a motorcycle. I got 10,000 steps and about 500 calories for a two hour ride!

Calorie counting and, especially, logging them here works. When I log, I lose, but also find that logging causes me to think about food more...in a bad way. When I take a break from it and try to just rely on what I thought was a well formed habit, the weight creeps back on. Note to self: Use the food diary to count…

I have difficulty changing my food intake to match a calorie goal that changes greatly from day to day. I don't intentionally eat my fitbit adjustments, but I accumulate them as a sort of buffer for the occasional donut.

It's likely that you can not try to motivate him without it sounding like criticism. How would you feel if the roles were reversed? Do your thing for your health and fitness and maybe your example will inspire him.

Thanks for posting this, OP. I just got a fitbit a couple days ago and I've not synced it yet. It was always the intention to sync, but I was wondering how that worked out for others.

It depends on what type of goals I have. I don't do well with outcome goals such a "lose a pound this week". Losing less than a pound is failure. Failure stinks. I get discouraged even though I know it's not always possible to lose at the expected rate. Process goals, such as "eat a vegetable most days this week" work…

I was just thinking this same thing. It's entirely normal to feel full after a meal, then feel empty by the time the next meal is due. If you have no medical problems, it won't kill you to have your stomach growl once in a while. One consequence of calorie restricting can be the increased attention paid to food. I have…

This is an interesting take. I always thought of "trying" as being synonymous with "striving to achieve." I can remember, as a child, being consoled by being told, "At least you tried." I suppose it's easy to use the word insincerely, even to yourself.

You are awesome! See? You just had to stay the course and be patient.

Successful management of free eating days is a highly individual thing. I find that a single indulgent meal sets off a string of poor impulse control for a few days even though I do include treats whever I can fit them in. I had "steak frites" last night and today I'm craving everything.

This method works for me only because I have less hunger throughout the day if I skip breakfast. It's a highly individual thing. Also, I think a person should see a doctor before they do this, especially if they have blood sugar regulation problems.

I found that the total calorie burn on the elliptical was way too high, but the average heart rate was spot on. I take that average heart rate and plug it into ShapeSense.com and get the net calorie burn.

I didn't just wake up one day motivated. I had to gradually realize that my weight was making me a very unhappy person and I knew very well what would correct that. I just didn't want to do it. I worked up my resolve and took a baby step. I didn't change anything about the way I eat, but just reduced my portions, weighed…

I took this to mean anything you want and as much as you want as long as you exercise. I know someone who seems to be able to do this. It turns out, though, that they self-limit their intake without thinking about it. If they have a pig out meal one night, the next day they just have no appetite. It evens out to be the…

My obstacle is insomnia and the sweet cravings that come while I'm awake in the wee hours of the morning.

Is there someone you spend time with on the weekend? If they know about your goals, maybe they can help keep your eyes on the prize. My husband has perfected "the look" which he skewers me with when I eat carelessly on the weekend. Never says a word. Doesn't need to. I don't recommend something as harsh as that, but maybe…

The best exercise is the kind you will actually do. Take the wise advice of other posters above and try out various things. Just speaking for myself, it's very difficult to be consistent with exercise if you are forcing yourself to do something you hate.

I always intend to log those days, but somewhere along the way I lose track. This past Saturday at a party, I kept count of the beers and the stuffed mushroom appetizers, but began to lose track of the cheese and crackers. I may have been able to recall dinner and dessert, but by the time we were outside by the fire pit…

That's what I had hoped as well. Elope...it's way more romantic!

I'm another one. I've gone off my meds. I've been eating obscenely for six months. I'm only able to sleep for a few hours a night. I weigh more than ever in my life. Basically feel like s**t. Perversely, I don't even want to feel better.

I have had a kidney stone episode and following it, was given a pamphlet on what foods to avoid to prevent them in future. I have also been advised that tests show I'm in danger of developing osteoporosis and the pamphlet I was given this time, had all the foods I need to be sure to include in my diet to prevent it. These…

I never really liked the taste of diet soft drinks or artfical sweetener in my tea, but I drank them anyway because the alternatives were yet more plain water or more calories. I finally decided not to let calorie restriction make me eat or drink things I don't like. I will have my tea with honey, damn it. If I want a…

I'm 5'6" too. I checked out what would be my weight at borderline normal/over weight bmi. In theory it would be 154. So for now, that's my goal. Not sure what you mean by body frame size or how you can measure it.

I'm struggling with goal setting. I tend to set unattainable goals then, of course fail to meet them, then of course get disappointed with myself. I'm thinking my goals should be process oriented instead of outcome. So here goes: 1) Eat a vegetable every day. 2) Get 500 calories worth of exercise every week.
