  • The silliest one I've had so far is that I had to buy a new riding helmet because my head has shrunk!
  • That's a neat little easter egg!
  • Hey, I lived in the US for years. I've experienced the culture there, and found it creepy. All this flag waving. I agree that it's good to portray that unthinking belief in your government is not the way forward, but I think it would have a lot more value as a true "enemy from within" film than taking the easy way out by…
  • I mean, if he's really a superpatriotic superhuman, let him do something about Guantanamo...
  • Well, yes, I agree that's the good patriotism, but it would be a much more powerful message if he were indeed taking a stand against his own people, rather than the kind of cheaty shortcut of "Nazis" - that's lazy shorthand. And it leaves them a way to keep the "real" Americans pure. Which rankles a bit. Maybe I see it…
  • Hoo boy, am I the only person who didn't like it? *spoiler alert*, just in case... It started off so promising with the topical theme of data protection, but it really, really annoyed me that the main plot point turned out to be that of course Americans would never be that evil independently, it's still Nazis all these…
  • Not working for me either, sorry.
  • Use it for baking - leftover chocolate makes great cookies. Then freeze the dough and bake a few throughout the year when you want them/have guests.
  • "It's a trap!" Seems reasonable...
  • Fortunately, I was never really huge, just the wrong side of obese with a 34 inch waist. And yet, a stewardess offered me a seat belt extender...
  • I just had a 400 cal dinner of fried potatoes and onions and two fried eggs. Just watch the amount of oil for frying!
  • Chain lube. Seriously, that stuff is almost like cheating.
  • I was just thinking of downloading this myself. But I've done c25k before so I wouldn't have to start from the beginning, though I'm not fit enough to just go straight into 2. Will it let you start in the middle, and does the story make sense if you do that?
  • Thanks, but... A lot of us (me included) do reenactments as well, but it's not all choreographed stuff for display - it's a proper martial art with proper sparring, too...
  • I'm a vegetarian because meat never agreed with me - especially chicken, to which both my father and I are actually allergic. So I definitely think I switched for health reasons. It's been 10 years, and I've never even been tempted. But I do hate to be the picky eater in any given group...
  • If you've never had a problem with that bra before, then congratulations: it's a sign you've lost weight! I've discovered that while you can put off buying new clothes for quite a while as you shrink, that doesn't apply to sports bras. I use them for both running and horse riding, and would give myself a black eye if I…

  • I've actually stopped using low-fat cream cheese and skimmed milk and switched to the full-fat versions. You need less because they're tastier and more satisfying.
  • Thanks, everyone - I'll see about getting some personal trainer sessions to attempt these! It's been 6 years, so I doubt it will get much better than this. I'll just have to live with it. My shoulders are already very different shapes, which is why I'm worried that lifting anything will make it worse... I tend to drop and…
  • I have my activity level set to "sedentary", but wear a pedometer all day. Between work and barn chores, I easily rack up 8,000-10,000 steps every day, and that's just incidental - I don't set out to take a walk. But of course I do want to count it!
  • Maybe he's being chivalrous and leaving you his to practice with because it's heavier? I use a heavier sword in training than in sparring, and it makes me faster.
  • Just in case it helps, a few more details: If I assume 180 degrees of movement for my left arm, straight down to straight overhead, it's more like 150 for the right on a good day, usually more like 120. Which is up from an initial 30, so it's not bad! What the physio had me doing was wall press-ups, bouncing a tennis ball…
  • No, I mean the Spinal Accessory Nerve - it was damaged when I had surgery on my neck (luckily, the lump was benign, so it's a small price to pay!) and now apparently only functions to about 40%. Which is better than it was, but the rest probably won't come back. (It's been 6 years.) It's the rotator cuff that the physio…
  • HEMA fighter here - historic European martial arts. Used to do mainly broadsword and viking-rules wrestling, now it's Renaissance fencing and I'm training my horse for jousting. Came 4th at the fencing tournament last weekend - only out of 10, but I was the only woman and the three guys who beat me are all at least two…
  • I'm working on my new fencing armour, 14th-century style.
  • Spent the day drawing patterns and shopping for material to make my new fencing outfit. This one's going to be 14th century style, a cotehardie with dagged tippet sleeves and a hood with matching dags and a liripipe. Particoloured red and green.
  • Thanks, I'll give those a try!
  • I do know I have hormonal issues - but it can't possibly be menopause, I've only just turned 30!
  • If I have leftover rice, I like to make a simple lunch out of it with some beans (watch the sodium in tinned ones) and spinach. I just put it all in a tupperware box and microwave for two minutes at work. Might need a little of your favourite sauce, or a spoonful of cream cheese or sour cream.
  • We tried long reining today and it was utterly undramatic - he had no problem with the lines flapping around his legs. So perhaps I'll be ambitious and try driving him as well by the end of the year!
  • I agree - you find someone who can share your enthusiasm and advise you. I bought a similar "disaster" horse. At eight years old, he wouldn't even lead properly, and bolted at everything. I took the time to listen to him - ground work and clicker training before even trying to ride again to get his confidence up - and now…
