Thanks! The future is looking rosy indeed. He's settled in to his new stable and being turned out with his new herd. He already has grooming buddies. Tomorrow, the vet is coming to microchip him for his passport, and I've already made an appointment to start lessons with a teacher who seems very knowledgable. We'll get…

Hmmm, am I the odd one out in *not* thinking of massage as something primarily sexual? Maybe it's because my housemate is a massage therapist. Male wouldn't bother me at all.

Yes, I might just be suffering from new mum syndrome - but thanks, you've all reassured me that salt doesn't have the same effect on horses! He's healthy and glossy and his hooves are great according to the farrier, but I'll look into supplements anyway. Can't be too careful. The vet is coming out on Friday to do his…

Thanks, everyone :) He's settling in really well in the new stable. No spooking, no trying to barge over me on the ground, and he's nearly stopped door kicking. We even got a beautiful canter on the right rein today. Most amazingly, he seems to have balanced himself out already! My right stirrup always felt shorter than…

Wow, that's wonderful! Congrats!

Whew, so it's been quite a month, but at last, Jackson is mine, and next week, is moving to another stable where the old owners can't bother him anymore.

Go in costume! We once went to LOTR in medieval gear - we'd been hired for the stage show before the premiere at that cinema - and managed to stuff *everything* under our cloaks. One guy had a pizza, and the orcs brought in an entire roast piglet...

Nope, I always lose from my waist first. I've already lost 6 inches there and still only half an inch on my thighs and hips...

I'm just back from seeing the new Thor - it's great. A group of us all went dressed as superheroes. I was Hit Girl.

I buy the smaller 250g bag since it's just me eating it - still works out at 179 per 125g. (And yes, that was my last-minute Halloween costume - Tom Baker is still the best Doctor!)

I went to a haunted house yesterday dressed as the 4th Doctor (Tom Baker). Whenever anything jumped out at me, I calmly offered it a Jelly Baby. It worked every time

I don't like 4e because I tend toward high-charisma characters who prefer bluffing to fighting. That's why I enjoy a human DM more than computer games...
-
Nice one, AmyRhubarb! I like it better than the blue one, anyway. My gaming group has considered doing a mega troll by going to see the new Thor dressed as DC superheroes...

I'd stay and chat, but it's D&D night, so gotta run...

I bike about 20km to work - each way - once a week. It's amazing how quickly you get used to it. Because of the roadworks and morning traffic, I'm now only 10 minutes slower on the bike than by car. And burn about 1300 bonus cals. Just saying. ;) But if it's not practical, it's not practical. Good luck finding another…

Except for a while where I literally lived at work and couldn't go outside for three nights every week (long story), I've not had a TV since I moved out from home. Well, not TV signal, anyway. We have a TV downstairs for the occasional DVD; it's a good way to pass the time while cleaning tack. Otherwise, I'll watch the…

Have you got a bicycle? It's amazing how everyday errands can add up. I get in a good 150 cal burn just heading to gaming night on a bike, and it's faster than the car if you factor in finding parking...

A somewhat more comfortable variant of the plastic bag approach is sheer nylon stockings *over* your trousers. That helps get them on and off. I used that for years with tall boots; now I use jodhpur boots and half chaps or full chaps. Maybe compression socks, to help reduce your calves a little? Just make sure it won't…

Today I'm a nerd because in the raffle yesterday, I ignored the other prizes and went straight for the Pathfinder rule books...

I've had a long conversation with the barn owner yesterday, and it's insane how screwed up the priorities and dynamics in the horse owner's family are. They're highly toxic, and much as it would break my heart to lose the horse, I have to distance myself from them. So I've just drafted a letter - trying to be as diplomatic…

Between work and barn chores, I had over 10,000 steps on the pedometer, plus a rather fast 45 minute ride trying to catch up to the others.

I've found a new non-food reward - for every kilo lost, I get a lego minifig!

Since I bike to work along the sea in Ireland, I ge this problem a lot. I wear quick-drying cycle tights, so I'm usually only concerned with keeping my top half reasonably dry. If you're not going for speed, ponchos are nice, they cover your hands and saddle, too, but they have a tendency to catch the wind. Mostly, my plan…

Glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for sharing your love of legs, ladies.

One of the best exercises I know for strengthening your core - and which my mother's doctor recommended for her bad office-job back - is horse riding. It's fun, gets you out in the fresh air, and as an added bonus, you make new friends. (An added bonus, providing that you're thus inclined, is that about 90% of the average…

My main problem is my immediate boss, who's skinny as a rail, yet apparently having a slimming contest with *her* boss, who's also at the lower end of normal. She's terribly insecure anyway, but what she's been doing lately is nothing short of harrassment. She orders my uniform several sizes bigger than I ask for, then…

Exactly the same here! I've lost 6" off my waist so far and not a single one off my hips. If I lose any more off my waist, my waist will actually be smaller than my thigh!

I was biking home along the river. There's a bike path, but it's very badly planned, because bikes don't actually trigger the lights to change at the T-junction at the end - you have to swerve into the road to go across three pressure-sensitive darker bits of tarmac. In my head, this translated to "better remember to hit…

Thanks, everyone - no reply from the owner yet, but at least he's settled a bit again. I believe you're right, norrishbex, but it *is* heartbreaking. I feel all responsible for him now, and can't just abandon him to his fate.

I take it back. It hasn't improved. Today, he was back to being terrified and aggressive - he bit me so hard it drew blood, then stood there shaking.
