I'd also recommend getting your gait checked. There are sports stores now with staff very well trained in assessing your gait and finding shoes to match your needs exactly. I'd ask around in your location and get some recommendations. I did this and found the perfect shoes for my needs. I had that AHH moment the second I…

I am no expert at all but my advice is to do whatever gets you the best out of your preferred exercise. If your current goal is to gain strength the concentrate on the strong lifts and fit the rugby in where you can. If your priority is rugby right now then concentrate on that and fit the stronglifts in so you can still…

When I started feeling set to fail I moved to mad cow. The gains are slower but it's still 5x5 3 times a week. I add my own accessories.

MFP doesn't calculate calories burned via weights. There is a weight lifting option in the cardio list but I would suggest amending the number of calories it gives you - I reduce it by 50% as they say its greatly over estimated
-
have you tried putting that into your MFP diary?
-
I add all exercise as cardio but I amend the number of calories depending on the exercise. I allow 100% for steady state like jogging or elliptical, 75% for circuit class and 50% for weights.

Thanks. When you say warming up do you mean warming up as in stretching or literally warming up with a hot water bottle? It has actually felt ok during the day while I've been up and about but now I've settled down for the evening I'm very stiff again. Going to go and have a little jog and spend some time on the stepper in…

I'm injured!! I've just recovered from a ruptured rotator cuff. I couldn't get the bar on my back for about a year. I've been back for about 4 months now. On Sunday we did squats as part of our circuit but of course with no rack I had to lift the bar off and on my back probably 50 times in total. My shoulder, upper back…

http://www.strengthstandards.co/#/home damn. I've been training almost 2 years and I'm not even a novice!!

I can't help on the gym prices etc, I am not even in the same country but I do want to commend you on your attitude. So many people are intimidated by 'fit and muscular' people at the gym. You choose to use them as motivation and that is great. You are winning!!

Dammit!! I dreamed about power cleans due to this thread! I'll have to do a set before circuit training tonight now, just to get it out of my system :)

Its totally possible. You need to eat at a calorie deficit and find a beginner's progressive lifting program like stronglifts. Be disciplined and consistent and you can loose fat and eventually gain some muscle. It depends where you are starting from as to when you will see a change but it will happen if you stick with it.
-
Agree. Most gyms will offer a free induction at the very least. What are you interested in? Cardio? Free weights? When I first started I used the treadmill and the elliptical and spent a lot if time watching people. I'd watch people who look how I want to look and see what exercises they are doing, then I'd try them at my…

Mine lasted about 2 years.

The journey has been a strange one. 2.5 yrs ago I was 56 lbs overweight having not done any exercise for 20 years. I hit 40 and joined slimming world and did the couch to 5k running programme. From there I joined the gym and from the start I was interested in lifting. I did a full body programme along with the jogging and…

Oh that 4lb is coming off, if I have to loose a foot! It's a goal I set myself 2.5 yrs and 4 stone ago. I would be crazy not to hit 140lb when I am so close. I know I will gain with the creatine and am mentally preparing myself for it. I wont start the creatine until I get there. Once I loose the 4lbs I plan to let go of…

whats the difference between micronised and monohydrate?

Lol, its my nature! I was worried that the question had been asked before but couldn't find anything in the search function. Thanks for your reply. Goal weight is a tricky thing. I know that the number on the scale doesn't matter and that my appearance and strength are the important things but I still have the goal to get…

I personally wouldn't buy my husband anything unless we'd either discussed it or he had made very clear and precise hints. I will occasionally ask his friends but they have steered me wrong in the past. He has a very clear and specific idea of what he wants and I invariably get it wrong! My advice is ask him! I have an…

I recommend the couch to 5k plan, it takes 9 or 10 weeks to get you from being unable to run at all to being able to run for 30 minutes. 5k is just over 3 miles. From there you can do the couch to 10k which is just over 6.5miles. in my experience if you can run 10 you can run 15 and if you can run 15 you can run 20, the…

I lift and have never had that problem. I would think you probably slept on a nerve. Has it happened again?

Its a HodgeTwins reference and a joke. I fear I'll have to keep popping back to defend myself or I'm going to look like I'm being aggressive and I'm really not! The OP will understand the joke. Apologies to those that don't :#

A shoulder snap is a joke name for a dip. It's from the Hodge Twins YouTube channel. One of their other catch phrases is 'do what the **** you wanna do'. The OP will understand my joke, apologies if I offended.
