I don't have a particular craving or two- there are myriad variables that affect what I crave. Sometimes it's yogurt and oatmeal, or salad; other times, it's banana bread or ice cream. Weaknesses, on the other hand... Snyder's of Hanover- honey mustard & onion pretzel pieces. I can't buy them anymore, because a serving is…

All of the above is great advice- there's a saying "weight loss happens in the kitchen" - meaning, you don't *need* to exercise to lose weight; all you need is a calorie deficit which you can achieve through diet alone. There's another saying; "you can't out exercise a bad diet"... which dovetails nicely with the first…

Redbull. Long before joining MFP, when I was on my feet 8-12 hours a day running a restaurant, it wasn't uncommon to have at least a 20oz can daily. Actually, nearly all of us drank the stuff. Every day, someone different would bring a supply, and we kept a stash of the small cans in the walk-in, just in case. It was…

Here's your saving grace- while the french elevate their love affair with food to an art form, they're not known for gorging. So, take that to heart- nibble. Just have a *taste* of everything offered to you, and nothing more. If anyone asks or makes a comment, just say you want to make sure you have room for everything,…

your initial premise is wrong. there is no either/or. IIFYM is simply the philosphy that no foods are forbidden provided you make them work into your daily allotment. To lose weight all you need to do is maintain a caloric deficit. Ergo the phrase "weightloss happens in the kitchen". ETA: you can change your macro settings

Wow, that's ballsy to ask a question like that. Like and respect or no, I'd be too pissed that they asked me in that sort of situation, with other people around, to answer kindly. "That's nobodys business" is probably the most polite thing that would come out of my mouth. And to answer your question, no, not in a public…

I can't workout on a full stomach so i usually don't eat anything a couple hours before working out. How about something right after working out? I usually bring an orange or half a grapefruit with me and have that on my ride home- it helps hold me over until dinner.

Yeah- I don't really rely on anything here without verifying- with chains, it's fairly easy to do. It's sort of become second nature. We don't eat out too often- I mostly just cook at home, and even with those items, I tend to scan what I'm using so I know if what I'm logging in my recipes is accurate. I don 't understand…

you make tandoori chicken at home?! Wow. I managed beef vindaloo and chapatis not too long ago... but tandoori seemed out of my league. Very cool!

I wish I could post pics... Leftovers for my daughter and I- Adouille sausage with red beans and rice; and I have beef stroganoff going in the crock pot for my husband. He flies in from Switzerland around 2300, and I know he's going to want a good meal. I'm looking forward to the stroganoff tomorrow!

Hmm. Shall we call you pot or kettle?

We do that in the ADK too :) Which is why it's never a problem to accept a drink!

As others have said- if you're going to a chain restaurant, they likely have a pdf of their nutritional data available. If you're going to an independent/locally owned restaurant that cooks to order and makes things from scratch, it gets a bit trickier. You can do as some have suggested and look for a comparable dish;…

This would be my way of handling aforementioned hypothetical. However, the only times I've been out to a bar without my husband was in my little ski-town where I know everyone. So, more likely than not, I already knew the person buying me a drink, and probably bought them one too!

I'm going against the flow here- mine is closed. It used to be open, and I found myself not being completely honest. Being afraid of judgement, criticism, as well as wanting to keep up the appearance of doing well overpowered my ability to be honest with my diary. I am much more comfortable with my diary closed, and it's…

Aww! don't you hate that?!

OP, please tell me you actually said that in front of them!!!!! Because it's genius and hopefully something like that would inspire a tiny bit of humility in them.

OP- this form is like anything else in life. You're going to find some people willing to hold and pat your hand and say 'there there'; you're going to find caustic people who themselves have skin of steel and can't fathom that their delivery (however correct their information may be!) hurts; you're going to have people who…

I'm a fan of pretty much every vegetable out there... and the vast majority of them taste superbly delicious when lightly sauteed with a little olive oil or butter, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder. It's really simple and super yummy! Fruit for me really depends on the season, but I think apples are my fave, with the…

I completely identify with your statements, and I know how hard it is to tame the beast. What willpower or strength did you draw upon to win the battle a few years ago? Try to tap into that reserve. The biggest thing, I think, is knowing *why* we do this. Because it isn't about requiring nutrition; it's a mental/emotional…

Whatever floats your boat, but IMO, only do what you can sustain for the rest of your life.

I think it depends on a variety of factors- what kind of exercise one is doing, for how long- AND (likely the most important factor) their size. Think about it this way- imagine doing your workout with a 100lb hiking pack strapped to you- you're necessarily going to burn more calories, simply because you're carrying more…

Agreed- it is about willpower- but what happens when your willpower is sapped? There are many ways one's willpower can dwindle or be hindered, and that is often one of the problems binge eaters face. Willpower-depletion (or, ego depletion, if you want to look it up) has an effect on the choices we make. Is it an excuse?…

The uncontrollable desire to eat can indeed be overwhelming, I know. If you have a specific food or type of food that you are unable to control yourself around (for me, it's a few different things, but namely, cookies) it might help to not have those things in the house until you've gotten yourself under control. I love…

What others have said. Don't be afraid of healthy fats- peanut butter, olive oil, nuts, beans... dark chocolate as a treat. Yogurt, cheese, etc... Believe me, you can eat health and take in more than 800-1200 net a day.
