Did you just say 'hello'? No, I said 'ello'! Not a gamer, exactly, though I do love me some old-school NES. Husband is a gamer and loves listening to game reviewers like Angry Joe or Spoony... but just wanted to say hi. Your topic title prompted the Labyrinth response :)

Hey there! Motivation is a key thing, but sometimes it doesn't come first. However, the fact that you recognize the need to make changes and have the desire to do so, is a good first step. Having a lot of weight to lose can feel overwhelming, so instead of looking at the long-term ultimate goal, set yourself a smaller,…

I wish that worked for me; your rationale is why I originally had my diary open. Unfortunately, I found that my need to 'save face' trumps public accountability. But I'm glad it works for you!

^5! You're welcome  I feel very grateful tonight for having connected with so many people over this. Keep on keepin' on!

I don't know about biggest, but the most recent and the one that's made me super happy is I recently bought a pair of workout pants at Target- regular size, not plus size; I was concerned they'd be a bit too snug, but figured they'd be something to work toward. I was wrong. They fit! They freaking fit! Silly little thing,…

It appears we have opposite problems! Nevertheless, if my post is in some way helpful, I am glad! Everyone is on their own journey, unique and individual as the person who's living it.

Thank you so very much, Gruno, I really appreciate your advice and support!

I really appreciate all the replies, from both those who understand it or experience this same thing, as well as those who (fortunately!) do not have this particular issue. Respectful feedback and dialog is a great help, and so many positive responses is definitely encouraging! :flowerforyou:

OMG, hands down, Wayne Coyne. Crazy wierdo freak genius music guy. ETA: ^ooh, Ian McKellen. good one.

This, a thousand times. Especially when you tend to be a control freak. The rest of my life is in order... but this. This thing is so incredibly difficult to master and control.

Thank you! Sounds interesting, will definitely read.

I can appreciate your point. I wish I didn't give a rats behind, but to answer your question... Pride. Vanity. Embarrassment. The appearance of being a hypocrite (do as I say, not as I do) when giving advice to others in trying to help. I know what I *should* do in theory, but the practical application is where I sometimes…

Thank you all for the replies! Support is encouraging- both giving and receiving it. I'm writing down how I feel in the "note" section of my diary- I haven't yet discerned what exactly the triggers are- sometimes it's not eating properly earlier in the day; other times it seems to be just mindlessness, and yet others there…

Hmm. Perhaps I should have just written this in my blog, where no one would read it. Ah well.

I'm going to bust out the old adage.... "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again!" You will make it through that workout; not today, maybe not tomorrow... but you will. If you keep trying. What's that other one? Oh yeah, practice makes perfect. And it's so true. Don't be discouraged that you didn't finish, be proud…

I think it's so cool you've gotten other co-workers involved! I eat salad pretty much every day, either for lunch, or with dinner. I'm one of those who gets on a kick with something- my current salad fave is a mix of baby kale and spinach, sliced strawberries, crumbled gorgonzola, avacado and some chopped pecans or waluts.…

Hmm. Good question... German Shepard? I think my fierce loyalty and protectiveness to those I love, coupled with my intelligence would qualify me...

THANK YOU. Seriously. Thank you for writing that. It wasn't too long. It was perfect, and it struck a chord in me- more than probably anything else I've read on here. Thank you. And, congratulations on your success and all the wisdom and insight you've gained (and shared!) on your journey!

I'm inclined to believe that all addictions, at their root, are behavioral addictions. Yes, there are substances which create a chemical dependency (alcohol, hard drugs, nicotine, etc...) and the severity of that dependency varies wildly from person to person- but that chemical dependency did not predate the addiction. The…

I typically don't serve rice with my chili. Problem solved! Though, I do make mine with plenty of red and white beans.

The vast majority of chain restaurants have their nutritional data online somewhere. For local, independent eateries (where the food is largely house-made, from scratch) if you're familiar with cooking yourself, you can "guesstimate". At least, that's what I do. My husband and I do not frequent chain restaurants- there are…

I'm going to be redundant and say what I'm guessing everyone else has already said- EAT. Don't worry about weight loss right now. Focus on your baby, on getting as much sleep as you can, and taking care of yourself as best you can. And that includes eating and drinking plenty of water. Eat well, eat healthy, but eat. There…

How does one define 'addiction'? I think the variance in the responses comes down to that- how one defines the term addiction; what connotations are associated with addiction. The Merriam-Webster definition of addiction is as follows: : a strong and harmful need to regularly have something (such as a drug) or do something…

I really enjoy yoga- I've been doing it at home for years after coming upon a dvd that I really liked. I guess the thing I really liked about this particular sequence was I could do pretty much everything, despite the knee/leg issues I had (and still have, to a degree). I've only taken two classes; I've wanted to do so for…

But being on your second floor* makes it that much harder to replenish once your supplies start to dwindle... ETA: floor, second floor, lol.

 I laugh because my husband and I do that with each other, and will be saying the same thing to our girls once they're old enough to get it. (they're 2 and 8mo) Just in case...

I'm pretty good at archery. I bet I'd get real good real quick if my life depended on it.

Yes. Granted, I don't put sugar in much- outside of cooking, the only thing I do with sugar is put it in my coffee. If I bake or cook with it, it's an ingredient that is accounted for when I build the recipe in the calculator.

I had a pair of Keens that I absolutely LOVED. They were so comfortable and durable. I hear Merrill is also very good, but I've never worn those.

Sorry :ohwell:
