Definitely get up and walk around every once in a while. I read somewhere to set a timer for like 45 minutes (or whatever interval you want), then when it goes off, get up and walk around for 5 minutes, even if you're in the middle of an email or something. I get up often in my office, so I haven't tried it, but it seems…

Hmmm. If nothing else, I want to keep progressing on my lifts even though I'm eating at a deficit. I guess even if I don't make my stated goals, more weight is more weight! Bench - Currently (9/29) - 90 lbs 5x5 - Goal - Follow the program and get to 125 for 5x5 - I had a 1RM of 145 a few months ago, so it might be doable.…

Bless you, sir :) Leg day is the best day, except maybe deadlift day...

I'm cutting until the day before Thanksgiving, because we leave for a vacation to Costa Rica that day, and I want to be able to see my muscles when I'm running around in a bikini :) I think I'd rather bulk, because said muscles are pretty tiny, but I'm not at 20% body fat like the ubiquitous "they" say you should be before…

This^ I'm not lactose intolerant, but if I eat a LOT of dairy in one day (Milk with breakfast, lots of cheese with lunch and/or dinner, ice cream, etc) I get all sorts of indigestion. The same thing happened when I had whey concentrate protein. When I switched to whey isolate, or a mix between the two, things got a lot…

There are gluten-free beers somewhere out there. I don't drink beer, though, so I can't tell you if they taste good :) I also don't know if they still count as a "wheat", because I don't know how they're made. Just putting the info out there! I am not great at sticking to primal/paleo, although I'm trying, but most of the…

What I want to know is why people think dropping grains (a whole food group!) is insane and SO bad for you, but dropping meat (also an entire food group!) is completely normal and sometimes admirable, even if it isn't done for ethical reasons. If people want to be vegetarians, I don't give a hoot, but I just don't get why…

Ew. Totally failed on the last set of OHP yesterday, even with 3 minutes of rest after the previous set. I just started week 4. Shoulders have always been my weak point, but it just makes me sad because I don't feel like I'm anywhere close to failure on any of the other lifts. By the third set of OHP I was curving my back…

Look at nerdfitness.com, You Are Your Own Gym, or Convict Conditioning. They have good home workouts that you really don't need any equipment for, it is mostly bodyweight exercises. You should definitely eat more than 1200 calories, and probably more than 1400, so go find a home workout that you like, stick with it, and…

This! If you want to lifts weights at the gym, start off with a lifting program like Stronglifts 5x5 (linked above), New Rules of Lifting, or something similar, and definitely start now! You don't have to wait until you're to your goal weight. If you look through various forums, there are a lot of success stories and…

I feel like I binge too, but only on food I have around. As a previous poster said, just don't buy it. I have been helped by trying to plan out my meals weekly and only grocery shopping once, MAYBE twice a week. That is only one trip to the store every week where you have to say "I won't buy that because I know that once I…

They are a little banana-y, but mostly you get the egg texture. I've made these before with a bit of almond flour and I honestly eat them with butter on top. So tasty. If you used a flavorful topping (jam, peanut butter, etc), you probably would only barely notice the bananas. Edit to add: I usually use frozen overripe…

I'm guessing you're talking about Jamie Eason. Srsly, look her up. She posted some pics at like 6 months postpartum and she looks great. She was in amazing shape before she got pregnant, though, so I'm sure that made a huge difference in her recovery. I haven't looked, but she probably does have a lot of info on working…

Also Everyday Paleo, Primal Palate, and Against All Grain have a lot of delicious recipes. I've found a number of paleo cookbooks at my library, as well. Really, if you find any recipe you like that is paleo, you can just add rice or noodles or some artisan bread for your husband. That's what I do most of the time. I'm not…

Just want to say, girls can ABSOLUTELY do pull ups. I can do like 10, and I'm not exceptionally strong. I just love doing pull ups, so I do them almost every time I'm at the gym :) Try jumping up so you're at the top of a pull up motion on the bar, and then hold yourself up for as long as you can. Even when you start to…

I shred up zucchini/summer squash or carrots, sautee them, and put them in dishes that have ground meat, like lasagna or stuffed peppers. You can add onion or mushrooms to TONS of meals if you sautee them and add them to sauces. You can also add veggies to soups, since they all kind of end up with the same taste/texture at…

This^. Bulgarian split squats hurt so bad, but they're so good for you. Burpees are...actually kind of fun (don't worry, I already know I'm weird). I hate high knees. I landed wrong once and sprained my ankle, so I am way too tentative when I have to do them at tae kwon do. I just feel like I look dumb, too :)

If you already know how to do the lifts (squat, bench, OHP, deadlift, & barbell row), the program doesn't take long at all. I've been lifting on and off for years, but my sister and I have been doing 5x5 for the last 2 weeks, and it takes maybe a half hour, even with warm-up sets. It will take more time as the weights get…

I second whoever said smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese, and definitely the sushi! Make your own sushi at home, and you also don't even have to worry about getting "sushi grade" fish, because it is cooked already. Just nori, sticky rice, salmon, maybe cream cheese, avocado, carrots, and cucumber. And siracha :) I…

There is an app for android phones that lets you keep track of your workouts. Once you input your starting weights, it will tell you every time you start a new workout what exercises you're supposed to do, and what weights you should use for them. I think if you don't make it through all 5 sets of something, you can…

Using dumbbells is a LOT harder than pressing the equivalent weight on a barbell, mostly because you have to work harder to stabilize yourself. Start at a slightly lower weight if you're going to use dumbbells. It could definitely help, though, as long as you keep trying to increase the weight. For doing a heavier weight…

I'm bumping this thread in response to the Thigh Gap Thursday thread in Motivation and Support :) I'm at work so I can't post any pictures, but dang it, somebody else should!

Agreed! That's just nonsense. I'm also going to have to agree with your shirt in your profile pic :) Where did you get it?

I'd like to point out that although I love the way they look (in theory), Old Navy clothes sometimes just fit weird, so that's totally NOT saying anything odd about your shape. I feel like the arms and shoulders on their shirts, especially button-downs, are oddly smaller sized compared to the midsections, and their jean…

Yep, definitely start lifting now if you can. It helps keep the muscles you already have, does help a lot with losing weight, and makes you look better when you're thinner. It is a lot harder to build new muscle than to keep the muscles you already have. I love lifting weights, which is why I'm considering focusing on…

Yep, this is me. If I tell anyone besides my sister that I want to get in better shape, they're like "but you're tiny! And you go to the gym and do tae kwon do all the time!" I want to get rid of the jiggle, lol, even if my husband says he likes it. My biggest motivation right now (that actually gives me a time limit) is a…

If you get refined coconut oil it shouldn't taste much like anything. Virgin unrefined coconut oil is definitely full of coconut flavor, and you can taste it in almost everything you cook in coconut oil.

I was looking for something for size for her, strength for me. I know that strength would come with size, so I suppose I'd prefer a program more for size than anything, since my sister is the one with more specific goals. I just want to be able to lift heavier things (a 2x bodyweight deadlift would be amazing :). I was…

Good list. I'd never thought about being tired contributing to binging, but you're probably right. For myself; 1) Boredom - I just eat when I'm bored or if I'm doing something that leaves my hands free, especially if (see #2) delicious things are readily available. 2) Availability/convenience - If I have bread or crackers…

You can run on your lifting days (although waffle is probably right about leg day, that sounds terrible), but I wouldn't run BEFORE you lift. I'm sure you've figured that out, but if you're already tired from running, lifting your "normal" weights can get dangerous without you realizing it. Take at least one legitimate…
