I would think that in a power class it would burn just as many calories as running (though I was more of a jogger at 5-6 mph than a runner). Those are very strenuous and I exert as much effort, if not more, than in a bikram class.
-
Someone posted this link awhile back: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc I usually estimate about 600 per 90 min.

Your metabolism might disagree about being starved.

I've been doing bikram consistently for about 2 months. I haven't lost any real weight but I have lost 10 inches from my waist, hips and thighs.

I struggle to do things at home because when I get home I just want to relax. The best thing for me is classes and a trainer right after work. I've scheduled it, I go and get it done with and then I can go home and be with my family.

I wear the Moving Comfort Maia. Its an encapsulation bra (rather than compression) so I don't really move around. I prefer the clasp in the back rather than a pull over one because I have a hard time getting off the pull over ones when I'm sweaty.

I just got a Garmin FR70. It was awesome to use yesterday in my workout to see what my heart rate was to make sure I was staying in the fat burning zone. Also, I know it's a reputable brand so i'm assuming I can count on the calories burned number it gave me (which, by the way, was almost twice what MFP estimated). I chose…

Unless you're eating more than your TDEE, according to the article, you shouldn't be gaining weight.
-
Thats really close to your BMR. Have you tried using your TDEE -20%?
-
How many calories are you eating a day? Are you eating less than your BMR?
-
So if you are eating 1400 and exercising 400 away, you're only netting 1000? That's not very much. I read an article that you should never eat at or below your BMR. I increased my caloried on Tuesday and already I've lost .6 lbs.
-
1200 is still pretty low, depending on your size. I read an article that said eating at or below your BMR will also slow down your metabolism. I've just switched to determining my caloric needs by taking my TDEE and subtracting 20%. I can't say yet if it's working but I know many people on MFP use this method so I have no…

If you're eating below your TDEE you should lose weight, even on days you don't exercise.

Yoga will help your flexibility a lot.

Vinyasa is a flow- up, down, halfway up, down, up, etc. Bikram is practiced in a hot room, always the same sequence of asanas, the poses are held for a minute or so and you "recover" between them. I like that Bikram is the same sequence because I can track my progress and I LOVE the hot room. You sweat a lot but it's very…

I practice 3-4 times a week. I've lost 10 inches off my waist, hips and thighs over the last two months. Message me if you'd like some tips and pointers. It can be intense! Best of luck!

I heard the same calculation you did. It's not hard to eat that many calories if you eat every few hours. You can always portion out larger portions into smaller ones and eat them for meals the next day.
-
I read a great thread that basically said you should never eat at or below your BMR. Based on this article, I'm upping my calories to 2200. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

Bikram style hot yoga is my main exercise, coupled with strength training. It definitely works your legs and back more than your arms, in my experience, so I focus on arms when strength training. I've lost 10 inches from my waist, hips and thighs in the last two months since I started practicing 3-4 times a week. I haven't…

I practive both and find yoga has helped in my lifting because it is important to have an engaged core in both activities. The instructor in yoga constantly reminds me of "pressing the bellybutton to the spine" so I tend to remember it more in other activities, too.

I haven't used this video but I practice hot yoga 3-4 times a week. It is my main form of cardio. I've lost 10 inches from my waist, hips and thighs in the last 2 months.

I haven't taken one yet but a friend of mine did. She basically said what you did, that the moves are very similar but its "top 40" (her words) music.

I separated my SI joint years ago so I know your pain. My main cardio comes from Bikram yoga. I've been losing about 5 inches a month since I started two months ago.

They've started offering this last month in lieu of Zumba at my yoga studio. I live in a small town in Michigan.

I like the MIA by Moving Comfort. I can find them on sierratradingpost.com from time to time for around $30.

I use Visalus (I don't sell it- just buy it). It tastes like cake batter. I mix it with my oatmeal and some peanut butter. After a workout, I'll have a pre made Muscle Milk, just for the ease of it.

I really like Zumba and try to go once a week to supplement my strength training and yoga. Where I live, it's very hard to find a class for less than $10 so $5-7/class is a good deal. In my experience, if I'm paying for it I'm more likely to go. And convenience (location and class time) are super important so if it's close…

The Speedo Pace Club has different types of training programs you can select based on your goal (speed, triathlon, etc) and they'll give you detailed workouts to follow. I believe there's an iPhone app for it, too.

My trainer has helped take the stress of figuring out what to do. I show up and do what he tells me. He's helped me with a food plan and helps me when I'm struggling with motivation and perspective. I work out with him privately 1x wk, take a circuit class from him 1x wk and do other group classes 3-4 days a week. It is…
