I was beneath her high standards

I like how the very deep and curvy line going down the middle of your back ends in a well placed tramp stamp =)

you mean I cant ask you to turn around and show me the goods?

Her gaze is piercing directly into my brain, where its melting like butter on very dry toast.

yeah sure

I see this A LOT. People who go for aesthetics, bodybuilder types will judge the powerlifters very harshly. They don't understand that the Pendlay row is meant to be explosive. None of that 2 second counting *kitten*. You rep it fast, you pull hard. You go heavy and do few reps. Those people frequently see powerlifters as…

Feel free to look at mine but its not very admirable lately, I've been logging haphazardly. I really don't care.

Well I'm no expert, but I think to be really successful at this you need to do a little bit of both, especially when doing just one alone isn't working. Check out powerbuilding as a intermediate form of lifting, if you haven't already. It's a mix of classic low rep, high weight compound powerlifting and high rep, low…

JoRocka rocks! I don't think the OP or other women here should worry about their shoulder width so much. You all look fine I'm sure, really if someone in your life is putting you down because you have a strong healthy frame? It's their problem.

Almost anything will do, it really doesn't matter. It only makes a difference in a nuanced way, and you're new to lifting, you can't be expected to make an informed enough decision yet. So just start lifting. Look up beginner routines, pick one that you think you might be comfortable with, and go. Don't think about it too…

Here's my 2 cents on the issue, as someone who has done both: There's no doubt that real squats with an actual barbell is better for strength training, even at a lighter weight. That said, it depends on what your goals are. I've seen plenty of pro bodybuilders who can lift more than anyone here with an opinion use the…

You gotta be motivated. You have to want to do it. You have to want the results and revel in the challenge. People who stick with it figure this out because they have it within themselves. I don't think you can trick your way to success.

Almost any weight training program will do as long as it's reasonable and you put in real effort. The women in fitness magazines look muscular because they are lean, and you get lean by watching your food. Learn about macros, count your calories, read labels. You don't want to overdo it on your lifting program but you do…

I'm pretty sure that very few people in the world are capable of deadlifting 400lbs. First off, you need the training. Secondly, very few people pursue it. Even less ever achieve a 400lbs lift. I would think the number is way less than 1%. His legs do look skinny but he trains to play wolverine. Almost every wolverine…

I had one of these the other day... with 3 strips of bacon. And yes single.

My protip is you don't have to worry about genderification of lifting. Just do lifting, it will make you a healthier human being. There is no male or female training, there is just training. And its true a person who starts lifting will gain weight to start. Your bones are getting denser, your body is holding onto water.…

Guilty on rest days? Hell no. Without rest and lots of it, there can be no progress. My time in the gym is rare and precious, I don't get much of it. If I go and then don't follow it up with proper rest, I feel awful for wasting my gym time.

Are you f***ing serious (I get that the 2nd one is an april fools joke)
-
Oh moya The deadlifting one, for sure. ;)

Run away

Todd matches me pretty close. I'm 5'9", 225lbs, my BMI is higher. Proving once again that BMI is total garbage.

My wife committed suicide a year ago in what sounds like much the same way. She had chronic depression her whole adult life, as far as I know from her teenage years onward. She was 36 and left me with 2 little girls. Logic doesn't play much part in suicide. People forget how much they are loved and how many people love…

We might have some agreement there, cause I would skip all others and go straight to recommending StrongLifts 5x5. It's free and does everything important. Other sources and books can be fine, but I find them to be too complex. If you are new just do StrongLifts and don't overthink it. Of course a beginner isn't going to…

Right and for a new lifter, like the OP, it would not be 300lbs. It would be the bar, 45lbs, or less. Either way, nothing would come 'crashing down' on her back or sternum with only 10-45lbs of weight.
-
This one almost slipped by me. No I'm afraid I don't see your point. You can bench a few hundred pounds? Is that your squat? If not why are you worried about hypotheticals that wouldn't happen to you? Why would a person who is a practiced, accomplished lifter (you'd have to be to be benching or squatting 300+ lbs) be…

We have different experiences. Worst injury I had was on a machine using bad form. I have a bad back and do heavy deadlifting all the time. Deadlifts haven't hurt me, they've helped quite a bit. Should someone who never picked up a weight in their life do barbell exercises? Yes! They should start with the 5 barbell…

This poster is misinformed. First you start trying to tear down rippetoe. I'm sorry I will take his expertise over yours any day. There are lots of random people on the internet who think they know better than mark rippetoe. They don't. Then you say something factually wrong: that people need to do lifting basics before…

I agree with Mank, the solution is exercise. When you're in a lot of physical pain, holding still makes it worse. Rest makes it worse. You need to get up and go be physically active. Maybe there are some things that you really can't do, I don't know. You have to separate fact from fiction on this. Figure out what you…

I think its cool. We should all be so lucky as to find someone that we like and are actually attracted to regardless of age or other particulars. And I'm a dad with 2 little girls, I realize one of them might make this decision for themselves one day (or something even more terrifying to us dads). As long as he's not a…
