  • I meant to say 5'8, sorry. Typing on an iPhone. :-)
  • BMI is just one of the many measurements of health. My BMI measurement says I need to be at the very highest 162 at 5'9 but when I was 160 at 20 years old, I didn't even have a period cus my body fat was so low. My goal is 180 to 185 and I will be happy with that. My blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc. is all…
  • Hi! On days when you know you are going out, I would drink tons of extra water (restaurant meals typically have lots of sodium) and eat sensibly for the other meals of your day. Don't try to starve yourself before because you are more likely to overeat at dinner. My weight loss and lifestyle change really came together…
  • I always seem to either gain or stay the same weight around my period no matter what I do. Usually tho, if I keep doing what I'm doing, I have a drop soon after. Just keep doing what ur doing and try not to focus on the scale. The biggest help for me recently is focusing on my exercise and food intake and putting away the…
  • I started out my weight loss journey doing low carb and that worked very well for me. Cravings are very minimal for me when I am doing low carb. When I eat processed snack food or other processed carbs, I am STARVING again in 30 minutes but proteins and veggies fill me up much more! Now that I only want to lose about 30…
  • I feel your pain. I lose weight from my face down and I'm so friggin pear shaped right now, its not funny. I have killer collar bones but no more boobs and my hips and thighs are still really big. I'm hoping that with the next 30 pounds, my thighs will slim down more!
  • Believe me, as someone who has probably lost over a 1000 pounds in her lifetime, just because you lost the weight doesn't mean it won't come right back on!!! Don't say Farewell to MFP or you will be right back here with more than few of those lost pounds with you. I have yo-yo dieted probably since I was 11 or 12 years old…
  • RUNNING! Regular exercise helps control my appetite and keeps me feeling healthy. If I go more than a day or two without exercise in a row, I see myself start making bad food choices and indulging more than I should. When I am focusing on fueling my exercise and trying to move my body, it feels much more natural for me eat…
  • Lots of great breakfast options... Greek yogurt, fruit, veggies and fruit cut up and bagged up for a quick morning smoothie, cottage cheese and turkey sausage, microwaved egg and cheese, etc. The quickest is a protein bar eaten at your desk or in the car. :-)

  • Mmmmm cheese sticks... Peanut butter toast.... cinnamon toast!!!! This has turned into A very yummy thread...
  • My stepsons aren't very active. They walk home from school but it's only about a mile. Then they sit in their room and do whatever they do on the computer. Neither of them play sports. It's definitely about genetics with them. Both of their biological parents are thin and always have been. My husband is just now upset…
  • I keep telling them that they need to watch out and ,learn to eat healthy now cus it will catch up to them. However, their father is 41 and he eats pretty much like they do and has held steady at 200 pounds since I've known him. Lucky *kitten*....
  • True, I just don't have any of those living in my house with me so I don't see them eating food I want today. :-) And when I was a teenage girl, I didn't get that blessing. I'm pretty sure I looked fat in my ultrasound.
  • Sometimes when you lose a certain amount of weight (like every 10 pounds, i think), it will ask you if you want to recalculate your goals... Do you think you hit yes but accident and it recalculated? I did that once before. You have to just go in and reset your goals manually to be 1200 calories per day.
  • Great answer but just to add my two cents... It's a lot of trial and error. You have to figure out what works for you. A lot of people on MFP say that a calorie is a calorie but that's not true for me. I tried for years to do the 50% of calories from carbs thing that most nutritionists suggest and it doesn't work for me. I…

  • Unfortunately, it's true... apple shaped people tend to lose weight slowest in their belly. However, you will still be losing weight. Try not to worry right now where you will lose the weight but just focus on losing. I am pear shaped and I don't care for my hips and thighs AT ALL. I have definitely lost weight in those…
  • It definitely takes some time to get used to logging your food and hitting your calorie and macro goals. As long as you aren't eating severely low calories (like below 800 or 1000, depending on your stats) you should be ok until you get the hang of it. Try not to restrict too much or you will end up overeating and risk…
  • Pizza!!! I could eat pizza every day for the rest of my life. Pizza is like sex... Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.
  • Very true! I'm trying to weigh myself less and set non-scale related goals for myself like running faster each month or farther. Sometimes we can't control the scale but I can control how much I work out or how much water or protein I consume every day and strive for those goals. It's really hard when I would like to see…
  • I tried to do Weight Watchers and MFP at the same time but ended up quitting WW after about 2 months. MFP works the best for me because I don't have to worry about translating things into points. I also know that for MYSELF, I cannot stick with a program that has a lot of processed carbs. I take in a lot of protein and…
  • Sorry to hear about your health issues! I hope your starting to feel better. I go through periods like that also and I have to do something for a total reset. Whether its joining a gym, signing up for yoga classes, or even just buying a health book and pouring over the details of healthy eating to kick myself in the butt…
  • It happens to a lot of us that have problems with food and use it to control our emotions. Most people who have been morbidly obese have a messed up relationship with food. I had lost 160 pounds this time last year then started back to some of my same old food behaviors and stopped exercising and logging my food. I gained…
  • Try switching up what you are eating and your exercise. Your body will start to get used to the exercise if you do the same thing over and over again and it won't be as effective. I would suggest trying new foods also... maybe try finding new foods or a way of eating. Also, like the other posters have pointed out, make…
  • If you have the lapband, I would definitely suggest you watch to see what kind of foods you are not tolerating well and please see your doctor if you start vomiting more frequently. I've had WLS (Sleeve) and many of my friends got the lapband before I had my sleeve surgery. Almost all of them have had to have the band…
  • I only crave processed carbs when I eat processed carbs. I'm not necessarily "low carb" but I know that if I eat things like Wheat Thins, Cheezits or saltines, I crave them so much more. I try to get most of my carbs from dairy and veggies and leave those salty snacks out of my meal plan. If I don't have them around or…
  • Don't have the diet mentality or the "I Blew It" attitude. If you aren't on a "diet", you can't cheat on it. I'm an all or nothing person so it's hard not to think that if I have a handful of chips, that all my efforts are down the drain. Now I log it and move on. I try not to eat processed carbs or snacks but if I do,…
  • All we can do is keep trying! Most people who try to lose weight go through the same up and down and it can get exhausting! Being on a "diet" is a bad idea... the best thing for the long run is to make healthy choices and don't beat yourself up. Focus on eating healthy things that you really love. If you torture yourself…
  • My friend's mother is single and lives alone. She hates to cook and tried Jenny Craig. She seemed happy with it while she was on it and lost some weight. I think prepackaged food plans are best for people who don't have to prepare meals for others and don't go out much. If you don't like to cook and looking for something…
  • I love my chicken and turkey burgers (you can buy them prepackaged or make homemade), turkey tacos, chili, and soups. You can find really great recipes for these and other healthy versions of new recipes on Pinterest. I am addicted to it and find so many meals that inspire me to cook. I used to eat out 3 or 4 times a week…
  • I agree with hncary. Even if you don't do the big meal prep thing for a day, at least plan your food for the week and do a weekly grocery shopping trip. I do this on Sunday and write down what I'm making for dinner every night. It's easy things like baked chicken, turkey tacos, burgers cooked on the George Foreman grill,…
