This is probably gonna sounds super weird... but I grew up eating cottage cheese with mashed potatoes. I'm vegan now so I don't eat dairy, but it was a really good combo lol.

Lol, nice. US guidelines: http://www.health.gov/paguidelines/factsheetprof.aspx

Thanks for the link, it looks similar to the most recent US guidelines.

Sounds like way too much exercise imo! How are you burning 1600-1800 calories a day? Don't overdo it. Otherwise I'd agree with most of that except the thing about no snacks. Snacking throughout the day is good because it helps keep your blood glucose more steady.

That was sarcasm about hurting my feelings. I know RDs need continuing education and I know they aren't all perfect. But to the best of my knowledge, some of the information suggested in OPs post was downright wrong, and I just wanted to offer my thoughts on the parts that sounded "off". I'm practicing under an RD right…

Interesting, I've never learned that about physical activity recommendations. I know 60 minutes is the recommended amount for kids and teens. But I'll have to ask my professors if they have any more recent information than what I'm aware of.

Don't worry about the sugars in plain yogurt and fruit! It's the processed sugars you need to be concerned about. The sugar that is naturally occurring in fruit, vegetables, and dairy products (unless you are lactose intolerant lol) isn't the "bad" kind.
-
I never called anyone a moron lol. Just that the advice sounded fishy and not like something I would expect a dietitian to say to a client based on my experiences and observations.
-
Looking good, keep it up! :)

Damn, you're really hurting my feelings. As someone who's currently in school studying the latest research and in the midst of a clinical internship, I feel like I do sorta know what I'm talking about. I guess a license is the only thing I'm lacking if I want people to take me seriously. Because having a license…

Did you boil it first? I love tempeh with BBQ sauce. One of my favorite foods.

I'm listening to She Wants Revenge.

I haven't lived with an SO. I've only have one serious boyfriend though.

Just the exercise program. I calculated my calorie needs using the equation given in Insanity's nutrition guide, but I just tried to eat a general healthy diet. And I don't actually count calories, I just estimate.
-
I don't feel anywhere near to perfectly fit but thank you! That is a really great compliment :)

Yeah, I have this problem too. Try to only eat snacks in the kitchen to distinguish that as the "eating place" in your house. Eating while watching TV or otherwise being distracted is such a bad habit haha. Make a cup of tea to take to bed with you instead. And I mean, if you do snack, it's fine. But just be careful not to…

It doesn't. But vegans are definitely at risk for deficiency in certain vitamins and minerals if they don't plan our their diets mindfully. I'm saying this as a vegan. I pay attention to things like calcium and protein that I didn't think about before eliminating dairy products. Same with B-12, since it's not found in any…

I don't want to make any assumptions or accusations, but I just wanna throw something out there because no one else has - I became vegetarian in high school after struggling with an eating disorder. Then I became vegan. I DO have ethical reasons for wanting to do so. But sometimes I wonder if I subconsciously chose…

I have only lost 12 lbs, but... - last night I was able to fit nicely into some skinny jeans I could barely squeeze into a few months ago - my cardiovascular endurance has vastly improved - my stomach is finally starting to lose the "pouch" - my mental health and self esteem is in a really good place - I feel happier and…

Sure! Chest: 40" --> 38.5" Biceps: 12.5" --> 12" Waist: 30.75" --> 28.75" Hips: 40" --> 38" Thighs: 25" --> 24.25 And I GAINED a half inch in each calf lol. All that jumping. About 8 inches lost, not counting the gain in my calves.

That last paragraph you wrote reminds me of my ex SOOO much. That's why I stayed with him like 6 months longer than I wanted to. Because I felt guilty about ending things. He was so into me but he also made me feel guilty about things like when I would talk to other guys (literally just talking, nothing else). Does your bf…

I just think it's easier than spending money on a "fat trimmer system."
-
Yeah I agree, I think people trust their doctors' recommendations too much in certain cases.
-
Or you could just eat a healthy diet.
-
Well if that's the case, sounds like there are a lot of crappy RDs out there. Makes me sad to hear that. I guess I've been fortunate to be around ones who know what they're talking about.
-
Why did you choose to order the supplements you did? I take B-12 since I'm vegan. And biotin for hair/nails.
-
Like I said earlier, I'm studying to be a dietitian myself and from the dietitians I've worked with, I don't think those sound like standard responses. At least not from someone who's focused on evidence-based practice and keeping up with current research in the world of nutrition.
-
Oh great! I am glad to hear that. Working with someone who knows what they're doing is especially important if you've been injured in the past.
-
What makes you say that?

Well in the aging process, the body tends to lose some of its mass. As we grow older, especially for the elderly population, a low body weight can be risky. At age 50 though.. there is no reason why you need to gain 10-15 lbs if it's always been a healthy weight for you. If you're not doing any strength training, I would…
