Hello, To manage your expectations, it is highly unlikely you can achieve this in the timeframe you have set, without risk of injury . Most pace increase programmes work over 13 weeks or so. Most achilles, hamstring and knee injuries occur during sudden increases in training frequency, intensity or duration. Where are you?…

Hello, Ex rower from high school here. Damper - I can't remember which end of the scale is which, but lets say open is 1 (ie air fully allowed in, higher resistance) and closed is 10 (air intake closed, spools up quicker). We used the damper to control rating (strokes / minute) for 'control' rows. ie 2km, 5km and 10km…

+500cal to 'Snacks' account errr'day. Allows for discrepancies in measurement, forgotten mouthfuls, variances in exercise length etc. But then again I average a burn of around 1000 cal / day above allowance, so....

Errr...bit selective looking at just runners mate. There is a benefit to distance runners not carrying as much weight, as there is for distance cyclists. Anywhere where you have to carry weight a long distance, the longer you're competing the greater the benefit of being very light. If weight carriage is negated - ie…

thank you...it sounds so huge and impressive. But on the day it was very simple; ride another 5km. Head down, get on with it. Repeat.

In October, I rode a 220km (136 mile) bike race, finished inside my goal time, in 34C (93 F) degree heat with a headwind for 120km. Over 8 hours in the saddle. 8500cal burn for the day. I did the final 70 km without water stops, alone, with no riders visible for several hundred metres ahead or behind me. Just me, the sun…

Similar probs to you, running got me out of being overweight but even a year of irregular running has ruined my knees and ankles. I bought a $500 bike and cycle to work 3 times a week. It's 25km each way, takes about an hour so 50km / 2 hours cardio a day, at my weight that's around 1800 calories. No cost of fuel or public…

Unfortunately the body doesn't work that way...the only way to spot remove fat is to do so manually (ie surgery). You can disguise it by toning, generally via weight lifting. It doesn't make the fat go away but it frames it better and draws attention to other parts of your body. Many women are apprehensive about…

Respectfully disagree...my view: MFP doesn't distinguish between added and naturally-occurring sugars in its measurements; neither does food packaging (ie it's not broken down into 'naturally occurring sugars' and 'added sugars' as percentages in the carb / sugar contents. Therefore they should be grouped roughly together.…

Ummmm...long term I've found totally sugar-free to be nearly unattainable. Certainly managed to cut it right back to under MFP's recommendations but it practically eliminates fruit, milk, cereals, etc. Stick with it as long as you can, then try to reach a balance point.

Yep, they're minding their own business and staying outta the forums. When they do post, they're drowned out by the legions of batsh!t insane women complaining about their unsupportive boyfriends / husbands / casual hookups / male pets, and the 90-page echo chambers that result. 'OMG GURL HE DIDNT COMMMENT WHEN YOU LOST .5…

I have three simple questions. There are no right or wrong answers, just outcomes / results / impacts. » Which is more important, eating healthily, or eating whatever the hell you want » Which is more important, doing exercise or doing nothing (relaxing / sitting on the couch / watching TV) » Which is more important,…

Don't listen to her, sheeple! Each of those products guarantees a 100% weight loss if consumed in sufficient quantities over a short period of time.

It's played out like he's the antichrist because he took performance enhancing drugs in an era where it was commonplace amongst elite athletes. The dope itself didn't win him the Tour De France. He is a genuine athlete, and probably would've won three or four on his own merit. However at a time and in a culture of doping…

It's relative. Ask a 50-year-old.

MFP doesn't differentiate between 'good' and 'bad' sugars if there are such things, it lumps them all together. I keep under my sugar limit for the day, it generally means I eat no processed sugars, no fruit and only have milk in my coffee. I've found that weight loss is a lot more rapid when on low sugar diets, but I'm…

But no mention of milk and bananas. History fails us again.

Most road / trail cyclists I know prefer to do high cadence, low resistance in their rides as it means their muscles don't fatigue as quickly. When they want to build muscles they do hill sprints, to the point that they'll do one-footed hill sprints (it looks really frickin weird too - one foot clipped in, one foot…

My lunch fits into my backpack to take into work, it's a 25km bike ride each way so weight and space is at a premium! I'm on 1500cal / day + exercise and avoid carbs where possible, and this sits at about 800 or 900 calories and is very filling. protip: reusable containers from the $2 shop, buy $25 worth of various sizes.…

Hello, Realistically there is a limit to how much you can increase your pace before you're running, so with this in mind let's look at training options. You generally increase speed by doing interval training, and increase endurance by doing long distance training. Endurance is hard to quantify, it means working hard…
