Through trial and error you can find the foods that will keep you satisfied. Don't give up. It gets much easier. At first I had a very difficult time keeping my calories low, but I learned how to allocate my calories throughout the day to prevent binging. It's not always easy, but you keep working at it!

I have a fitbit Surge, which I like very much. Fitbit has an excellent website. We've had three fitbit's in the house, so I guess you could say we are fans!

Awesome! Great transformation!

Coffee has many nutritional benefits. It is high in antioxidants and is associated with many positive health outcomes.

I calculated my actual TDEE and compared it to fitbit. I found a 269 calorie difference per day for a 28 day period. I imagine I have a slower metabolism, or the data in my food diary is a bit off. My advice is to take a 4-8 week period to run the numbers. Sounds to me like fitbit might be underestimating like you said.

I try to plan my day in advance so I can have a snack in the evening. I sometimes have yogurt, fruit and nuts. Or sometimes single bags of microwave popcorn. Lately I've been trying to keep my blood sugar lower in the evening so I am eating a bigger dinner and skipping the snack. But for sure, I try to plan my food so I…

A safe rate of weight loss is no more than 1% of your body weight. So if you weigh 350 pounds you could safely lose as much as 2.5 pounds per week at first.

I would say to eat no more than 1/4 to 1/2 of exercise calories back for a month or so unless you really feel the need. Then if you have kept meticulous food logs you can calculate your actual energy expenditure to see how it compares to MFP. Last time I ran the numbers, I found that my fitbit overestimates my calorie burn…

I find I have less of a problem if I choose a natural peanut butter that does not contain sugar. I weigh it by the gram on a food scale.

Amazing! Congratulations!

I don't have the answer, but I hope others respond as I'll be interested in hearing what they have to say. I keep reading that higher fat and moderate protein is better. The first way you have listed is actually how I am trying to eat, except I'm trying to eat a bit more fat and a bit less protein. The protein in the…

I have been on both sides of the fence. I was a vegetarian/almost vegan for a few years. My mom grew up on a farm, and my aunt is a dairy and beef farmer, and there was just not any acceptance. "Each a big chunk of meat. Then you'll be satisfied." "Have a couple of eggs and some bacon." "You know your brother is doing…

I had the regular charge, and now I have the Surge. We also had the little fitbit that you put in your pocket. I like the Surge, however, the heart rate monitor (of the Surge I purchased) is not accurate at all at high intensity. But I still like the Surge.

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I haven't figured out exactly what to do. I just want to lose weight without feeling crappy. I should probably go back to see my doctor. 120 - 140 is a bit of a range. I am wondering if you all absolutely look for blood sugar levels under 120 or under 140. I think it makes a big difference in…

Thanks so much for the replies everyone! Much appreciated!

Thanks so much! I appreciate your share. So, when you would eat to your meter, what numbers were you eating to?

Peanut Butter or Salmon. Either one would keep me satisfied. Or I would pick chocolate, but chocolate wouldn't keep me full!

Hey - you're doing awesome, and it's okay to vent about the scale. I use Trendweight.com, and it helps me see natural fluctuations for what they are! Natural fluctuations! Good luck on your weight loss journey!

We see the world, not as it is, but as we are.

I've been eating between 1200 and 1500 on most days since early January, with occasional exceptions (such as this weekend). During this time, my cholesterol profile improved. I recently had kidney, liver and metabolic panel tests which were completely normal. Choose a calorie deficit that is safe and works with your body…

Hey there! I'm turning fifty in two months so I thought I would jump in to the group. I am married with two teenagers. My son is graduating from high school this year. I started using MFP in November, then fell off over the holidays and returned with a few added pounds in January. Since then I've lost 25 pounds. In the…

Fitbit calculations are based on an average metabolism. After doing calculations between calorie intake and calorie burns, I calculated that Fitbit/MFP was telling me I burned 269 more calories per day than I actually did. That's quite a bit. I'm sure Fitbit is accurate for other people. I will run the numbers for April at…

Hi, I've been reading up on this also for insulin resistance. I have found anything definitive, but I think that the fiber may have some impact on insulin, therefore carb counting for insulin resistance is generally total carbs, not net carbs. I was at 100 - 150 on most days, but have just reduced my carbs to around 50…

I'm 5'2 and eat between 1200 & 1500 calories per day. I found that if I walk 10,000 steps a day the weight comes off a lot faster. So I try to do that most days. I reduced my carbs and increased protein and fat, and I'm really not very hungry at 1300 calories per day. I only did this to control blood sugar, but not being…
