It was my least favorite part - but I was so motivated to get it right I just resolved to be 100% compliant - and it was ok after the first 2-3 days...but it was a mental game

BMI is a good measure for populations, but not necessarily for individuals. I have a 34" waist, spend an hour a day in the gym, my BP and cholesterol levels are terrific, and I weigh less than I did playing high school football 38 years ago. But I'm a barrel chested, short legged stumpy kind of guy who's still borderline…

Nicely said.

Yes! I have exactly what you describe - a bony protrusion at the base of my sternum...kind of freaked me out at first. I expected the collar bone, tail bone, etc. But this caught me by surprise. I'm pretty sure for me it's structural from when I weighed 350 lbs. and my barrel chest and pot belly pushed out on my skeletal…

Great job!

I know the amount of carbs makes all the difference for me as I approach maintenance. % carbs is a better indicator of what my weight is going to do than the number of calories I eat (my rationalization, perhaps). I can increase my caloric intake, but hold carbs to 100g/day, and maintain or lose. So the carbs I eat come…

Agree with Blairmundy - if you feel good do it! Be sure to keep protein in your system. You might want to add a a small amount of carbs before or right after workouts (I'd eat half a banana). Stay hydrated. I've been pushing myself pretty hard in the gym, and with weights, since a few months post op and have really enjoyed…

I have no regrets about having WLS, if your provider thinks you're a good candidate, don't look back. It took me two years to wrap my brain around the idea.
-
Good for you! Much of the work, discipline and advice is the same whether you've had surgery or not.

I attended an orientation in May and decided I wanted to have WLS and had surgery in November. Work with your surgeons office; mine had a solid relationship with my insurer and advised me on the best way to get to a surgery date successfully. I had to document a supervised weight loss period of three months, which I chose…

Welcome!

Awesome! Keep 'em coming!

Hang in there! The first few days are the roughest, but it usually starts to get better rapidly and noticeably after that. Rest, walk and stay hydrated....everything else can wait.
-
How about shoveling snow for hours on end over 3 days and not really feeling strained, or sore; and back is fine! I will admit to being tired.
-
Welcome - lot's of collective wisdom here; as well as fun and support. WLS is one of the best decisions I ever made. 15 months post op and I feel like a new person.

It really helps force discipline. I logged religiously for first 9-10 months after surgery, then I thought "I've got this - I can eyeball portions, I know when I'm full, I make good choices now". It was sort of true, but not really, and I've more or less maintained for the last 4-5 months. Really want to lose another 10-15…

Good luck in recovery. Just remember to rest, walk and drink water.

Awesome progress!

Hang in there!

Only problem is if I gulp - have to drink intentionally. Also bubbles can be u comfortable, no soda or beer anymore, just not fun.

The gastroenterologist scoped me before surgery and said I was fine, but the surgeon found and repaired a hiatal hernia while doing my RNYGB. It seems pretty common, he certainly wasn't surprised. Whether because of the hernia repair, weight loss or improved diet, I haven't had to take the prescription meds I'd been on for…

Shrimp was my problem in the first few months of "normal" eating. Just couldn't get it down.

Ditto.

It definitely gets noisy after surgery, but it either settles down or you get used to it, in any case it's not been a problem for me.
-
Awesome!

No need to worry, focus on protein first, add veggies and fruit as you can, but as long as you are drinking fluids and taking your vitamins you are fine.

This is a great place for support, questions, and knowledge. Congrats on taking control of your life, it's been best thing I ever did.
