  • IIRC for an Olympic squat to count you must go past parallel. Power lifters stop at 90˚ I could be wrong on that. Maybe someone else can chime in on that point?
  • I read that with the FT4 you need to be careful when changing the battery in the transmitter. Apparently it's easy to compromise the waterproof seal on it. The FT7 is supposed to be a different design on the transmitter and that is apparently not a problem on them. That's the only reason I went with the FT7 over the FT4,…
  • I might be wrong on this, but in order to get a reasonably reliable estimate of calories burned you'll need something with a heart rate monitor. A wrist watch with a chest strap takes into account your height and weight (at least my polar FT7 does) and will estimate your calories burned based on this + heart rate. Like I…
  • as usual, you amaze me.
  • I'd recommend starting with little or no weight to practice form. With things like squats and deadlifts, you'll want to be sure you're doing it right before you start adding weight and pushing yourself. It took me about a week for find my starting weight for squats, but had I looked around I might have started much closer…

My smoothies are usually: 1/2 c frozen blueberries 3 whole frozen strawberries 1/4 c spinach 1/5 container of silken tofu 3/4 - 1 c 1% milk vanilla protein powder I keep the frozen stuff frozen but measure it out into small baggies. The milk/tofu I just put in small ball…

Congrats to everyone who…
  • I'm on stage 1, but have had set backs due to illness and family emergencies. :( I'll be re-starting stage 1 once I kick this cold. There's a NRoL4W group too. I'd recommend you check it out if you haven't yet.
  • I usually group two exercises together and cool down after the second. (30 - 90 seconds) That's me, and it might not be possible if your gym is busy. :(
  • You seem to be asking this a lot. You've gotten a bunch of advice already but I'll add my own 2¢ with: Start Lifting Heavy. Now. Take a look at New Rules of Lifting for Women. I'm not going to post the workouts here, because I really think that the book is worth the $10 on amazon (or whatever it is now) But I think that…

  • I get almost all my workout clothes from TJ Maxx / Marshalls. I can often get morera and marika tops there for $10-$25 and simple jockey bottoms for $10. I don't need fancy, but I find that those two tops brands provide just enough support for me though I'm only a B or C cup now that I've started losing weight.

  • Listen to these people they know what they are talking about. Don't be afraid to lift heavy. You won't look like she-hulk from doing squats.
  • What you're looking for sounds like an activity monitor, not a HRM. While I personally don't have any experience with them I have read good reviews on the fitbit, but the Nike Fuel Band and the Jawbone Up also are worth looking into. Just keep in mind that you're not actually looking for an HRM, that would be the chest…

  • I have a polar as well. I picked up the FT7 on the cheap (Groupon for a local sporting goods store.) I looked at the FT4, but decided on the FT7 because I read that replacing the transmitter battery on the FT4 could impact its water-resistance. Since I plan on wearing the monitor in the pool, that wasn't something I really…
